hi everyone.. hope I'm posting on the right group here. A couple years ago, a friend of mine purchased a Via Firewire (IEEE 1394A Card) because we both had a Canon ZR-80 Camcorder, and he said this card was how he put his videos on his computer from the camcorder. Well, as time went by, I wanted to do this - so I recently got it out of the box, installed it in a computer of mine and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, the computer doesn't detect it at all. It's a fairly old computer that uses Windows 98 Second Edition, but I've read I shouldn't have any problems. I've tried nearly everything - I've made sure it's tightly in there.. I've tried numerous "drivers" from various web sites. I've tried plugging it into each plugin (there are 3 external on the card).. nothing seems to work. Add/remove hardware doesn't detect it either. If I try to add the device manually, none of the driver files I've found will take me all the way through. I was running a computer on Windows XP, but due to hard drive failure, I've been using this older one.. but I sure wish I still had it. I've installed everything on the disk that came with the card as well. I'm normally pretty good with finding a solution - but I've been at this off and on for a week and so far nothing has turned up yet. I've tried the camera off, on, etc.. Via doesn't offer drivers. Does anyone know what I should try next?
