BH200 Audio out

I just updated to the latest firmware and can't get anything beyond 5.1 from Gladiator or 3:10 to Yuma.

Stargate and Top Gun give me 6.1.

I'm feeding a NAD M15 from the spdif optical.

Any help is much appreciated

It is because you are using SPDIF, it cannot carry lossless formats, often the Legact DTS/DD tracks are 5.1 only. Your BH200 is behaving correctly.

Does that mean that you can only get lossless from HDMI or analog? Is that a BH200 limitation or SPDIF thing?

I'll have to check the manual but my M15 will only receive audio on spdif and I believe it claims to decode DTSES yet it does not receive audio from hdmi.

Thanks for the help.

It's an SPDIF thing, and yes, lossless is only over HDMI or analog.

Well that's the pits! I got the M15 recently and the purveyor who is generally very trustworthy assured me it would do everything.

Since I don't expect NAD to do any updates to the M15 it seems like the only solution is a new receiver.

SPIDF was designed before there was such a thing as lossless multichannel surround audio, nevermind before higher definition audio. The bandwidth is far beyond the spec.

Yeah, sucks. I never had SPIDF audio drop out, but I have over HDMI.

How does it sound? DTS 1.5Mbps is pretty damn good, and as noted, audio dropouts are almost non-existent with it. I have it on one of my BH200's and have never had a dropout. Just watched Casino Royale last night, sounds epic... the lossless remix to DTS works pretty well.
