I havea question on the HC1600 regarding adjustment. My boss has this pj and loves it. He has a 100" screen and it was fine. He recently re-did the room that pj is located in and ended up moving the pj back about 10 feet. Now the picture is too big for the screen. He tried adjusting it without any luck. Are there any quick adjustments that can be made to make the pic fit the screen again? Thank you.

The throw range for a 100" diagonal screen with the HC1600 is between 11' 11" and 14' 6" measured from the front of the lens. If he moved the projector back 10' then his only options are to move the screen closer to the projector or move the projector closer to the screen. Either way the HC1600 can't be closer than 11'11" or farther way than 14' 6" to display a 100" image.

Hey guys (gals? really?)
I've been considering upgrading from a 5 YO Samsung 55" rear projection hdtv to a projector for my HT for about a year. I had settled on a Panny AX 200u but it was still a little rich for my economically recessed budget. After trolling the AVS forum and seeing my neighbors Optoma 65 outdoors I'm ready to get a projector. I use my Samsung primarily with a HTPC for flight simming @ 1280x720 and a Sony BluRay player. The Samsung is surrounded by a nice oak entertainment center furniture with the bridge and shelf to make it look almost built in. I hope to sell the TV and furniture for $600 to cover the cost of projector on Craigs list. Once gone I'll have a 13' screen wall which I plan to paint with screen paint. The projector will be installed into a ventilated soffit with about a 18-20' throw.

I'll see if I can dig up some of my HT pics and post them.

I ordered my HC 1600 on Thurs from Amazon. Selected super saver shipping since I was in no hurry and wanted to save on shipping. Low and behold UPS attempted to deliver the next day (guess supplier was close to my house). I went down to my local UPS center and picked it up Friday. Got it home and set it up on a table next to my PC and projected onto 9' a off white wall in basement. WOW! is all I could say. I am a hd projector convert. Sitting from about 11' back I saw no pixelization. My HTPC was already set for 1280x720 component out for my old Samsung projection HDTV. So I just plugged in the component cables. The image from the HC 1600 is so much clearer and detailed than my Samsung HDTV. I tried a few FPS games and a flight sim or two. The images were clear and pretty fluid. So much so when I was flying I felt myself leaning into turns. Can't wait to hook it up to my BluRay.

I have seen several of these "projector throw range" charts in the forums. Is this a program that we can access? Is it free? I would love to adjust the chart to fit my theater application. I would appreciate any information.

Now that I have a HT projector I am reconsidering selling my not so old 55" samsung HDTV. While its a fat pig it does offer one benefit that the projector doesn't. A place to put the sensor bar for our Wii. When I ceiling mount my projector, equipment rack will now be located near the back of the theater. That is a good 18' from where a sensor bar would be over the screen. Then there is the fact that alot of wii games require you stand which means that you'll cast a shadow. Then there is the idea of my kids burning up my projector lamp playing Wii games. I mean it OK if I do on COD WAW or flight simming.

What's up with the 3000 hours lamp shutdown? I am getting close and the picture is still fine. Can I just take out the lamp and put it back in to reset the timer?

I bought a wireless sensor bar and it has worked flawlessly. I have it sitting on top of my center channel speaker (below the screen). My wii is about 12' away from the bar. The bottom of my screen is about 40" off the ground with projector mounted on 9' ceilings and there are no shadows even when serving in tennis.

I would gie it a shot. Wii on the large screen takes the games to new level.

You all are really making the $640 deal at amazon hard for me to resist. Especially those of you with an InFocus 4805. That's what I've had for four years now and I'm really itching to upgrade. Keep the stories coming and push me over the edge!

Anyone thinking about this shouldn't be... you should be at BB picking it up for sale at 699.

I had an HC1500 for the better part of a year, put on about 550 hours (living in a college apartment, EVERY sporting event imaginable was on here, all the time). Just sold it due to a move, but once I have a place big enough, there will be a new one in its place. Great fun for not alot of money.

How do you guys feel about the black levels on this thing? I've heard they're pretty weak and in my experience weak black levels murder contrast. However the upside as I understand it is this thing offers some of the best shadow detail of any projector currently on the market. So what do you guys think? Are you able to bring black levels to an acceptable level of dark grey with plenty of shadow detail while maintaining accurate color that still pops?

As time goes on before I buy my projector I'm still wishy washy about whether I should pick up this or an HD65.

I picked up the HC1600 from BestBuy for $699+. I have only logged a couple of hours on the system so far. I am half tempted to take it back and order from AZN because of the killer price and no tax. I am the type that buys cables and non-moving parts online...but I tend to buy electronics at a physical store. It gives me a sense of security knowing that if something goes wrong, I can take it to a store. The deal on AZN has me questioning this thought. Any thoughts?

I read a review of the HC1600 that gave recommended settings (ie. color, contrast, R, G, B etc.). What settings are real-world end users going with? Obviously, the more technical the better, but if you set everything to auto and run with it, then let me know how that works with you too. I will probably start out with the reviewer's recommended settings, but it will be nice to read what owners are doing in their own homes. Also, I would be interested to know what color/kind of screen people are using, so be sure to mention that with your settings.

I have been using mine on a temp DIY screen while I wait for my actual screen to be delivered, so it is hard to tell just yet how the black levels are. I will get back when the screen is set up, which will hopefully be this Thursday or Friday.

Well, I did it. Ordered from amazon. Should be here by Friday. I'm already second-guessing my decision (nothing new for me). One thing I can't believe I missed is the physically rounded top of the projector. My InFocus 4805 is, and always has been, sitting upside down atop a bookshelf. I was expecting to do the same with the HC1600, but now I'm not so sure that will work unless I mount it or fashion some sort of stand.

I just now got why you set it on the bookshelf upside down. Yeah, the top is rounded, although, you could use some type of small, folded blanket for the projector to sit on. You don't want it to block any of the air flow, but it would be similiar to a friction mount for a car GPS unit. It is a simple idea (came to me when I was looking for a place to set the unit after I installed part of the ceiling mount) but I noticed the unit set pretty level on a blanket sitting on a dresser in my bedroom. Let us know what you ultimately come up with.

I made a temp mount when I got mine, basically cut a V shape in two pieces of plywood to form a cradle for the projector. This took care of the ventilation issue but the problem was keeping the alignment right so I bought a mount off ebay.

I'm getting a lot of rainbows off this thing. Any darker materials with white shooting out some place makes it real noticeable. I was really hoping I would not be able to see them. They are not the end of the world though, just mildly annoying.
Bought it off AMZN after hemming and hawing between the HD65. All the pics in reviews just look better for the HC1600. Haven't seen any rainbows (running PS3 w/HDMI, and XBMC Mac Mini w/HDMI , XBMC original Xbox w/Component). Building a 108" screen with Wilsonart Laminate D354-60 (1.24 gain). Will run the DVE when my screen is done- really happy with the picture so far on a primed wall...

Just hoping somebody will have some settings to try- haven't touched any of te default settings yet...

Kind of locked in now as I built a soffit w/speakers to accommodate the larger offset..low ceiling in my room so trying to keep it as close to the ceiling as possible. Did find a good mount on Ebay...
