HSU STF-1 or Velodyne DLS 3500R for modest home theater?

I am looking to upgrade my current Boston Acoustic sub that came with my Micro 90 satellites purchased about 15 years ago. I listen to more music now and looking for something with better definition. I have small to mid living room about 12 x 15 with 8ft ceiling. The living room is open to smaller dining room. I have read many great reports on the HSU about it playing much larger than the 8 inch woofer it has. I am not looking to wake the neighboors but I still enjoy a good rumble when needed. Budget is about $300. Any help / suggestions would be great.

Personally I would take a hard look at the STF-2, it just seems that with your size room, the extra power and surface area would do more to impress you.

While I cant say much about the Velo, I know for a fact that the HSU subs are known well for how musical they are. I use an Outlaw LFM-1 Compact in a stereo setup, and it sounds fantastic! The reason Im telling you that is because HSU actually designed the LFM, its virtually identical to the STF-2.

The HSU subs should also provide much better bass for movies than your current sub.

There are other choices, like the TSC subs, but I cannot comment as to how they perform with music.

HSU would be a solid choice, they rarely disappoint!

Thanks for the feed back COMBOS99. I am a little tight for space and I was looking at the STF-1 acutally because of the depth 16inches vs 18 STF-2. I am quite happy with the power of the current B.A. amp and the STF-1 would be an improvement from a power point and design (down firing vs front ). I was at my subwoofer budget @ $300. The STF-2 would be about $370 with shipping. Is it worth it?
