problem with Samsung LCD RF connector and digital tuner

I am having some very frustrating problems with my new Samsung LCD TV, and I need to decide whether to return it or not. A couple weeks ago I purchased this TV and connected it to my rooftop antenna, and it worked great for about 20 minutes. All of the digital channels came in very clearly. However, the signal became very weak over time with a terrible picture. After playing with the cable and its connection to the RF input and holding it just right we could manage to get a good signal, but if we let go of the cable the picture would start getting messed up again. However, analog signals came in pretty clearly. We had a friend over who is a TV repairman and his opinion was that the digital tuner was bad. So we returned it, and purchased the same exact model from another store with the same exact results. Digital signals worked great for a little while and then went bad while fiddling with the connector could bring back a good picture. Analog signals also came in fairly decently. Other family members are convinced that the problem is with the antenna. However, we tried connecting to a converter box and a portable digital TV with a great digital signal. It really seems like the problem is with the Samsung, but I can't believe we would have the same exact problem with both TVs of the same exact model. Are there certain HDTV's that tend to have more problems with the RF connector and digital tuner?

Connect the converter box to the Samsung using the composite connections and tune the same channels that are giving you problems with the Samsung tuner. If the cable box gets a good signal and picture the problem must be in the Samsung tuner.

Digital tuners unlike analog tuners will not process a signal it the signal is too strong. I suspect that this may be your problem since fiddling with the connection permits your digital tuner to receive the OTA digital content.

I have the same digital signal problem with Samsung LN52A860. Analog signal and other sources work fine but the OTA digital signal frequently causes the TV to pixelate, sometimes display weak signal, etc..

Samsung came out and replaced the main board (which includes the tuner) but still same problem. The technician suggested that I check the cable line to the antenna. Well I installed new quad shield cable, used high-end connectors and routed the wire away from any electric or anything that could interfere. I use no splitters or couplers. I shut the breakers to all electric outlets in the house except the TV outlet. I tried other electric outlets. I also tried installing a signal booster and installed a high end surge protector. I still have the same problem.

I have a clear view of the stations' transmitters 19 miles away and tried various low and high end HDTV antennas. Same cable/setup works fine with external tuners, my Samsung LNS4695D and Vizio TVs. Just will not work correctly with this 52" Samsung. Any suggestions? Is there any other parts in that TV that would cause the digital tuner to work poorly? If dmehling has an 8 series too, I would tend to believe this model is simply a poor design?
