I'm looking for a device that has wifi internet capabilities, plenty of space to store at least part of my cd library, good functionality with car stereo, possible voice activation, portable...any suggestions?

You probably want to consider a netbook, pick up an external R/W DVD drive for it too so you can load additional software easier. If you are going to bring into your car, it would also allow you to run navi software too.

I've got the HP Mini 1000 and like it a lot. The only issue is that the audio out/in is a software controlled combi jack and has somewhat compromised in sound quality (even with the latest drivers and patches from HP).

This version was introduced right after I purchased mine: http://astore.amazon.com/myhpmini-20/detail/B001R9YROI It's more expensive but I think it's worth it. Dedicated audio out jack and 100GB more storage!

Also check out the MSI wind too, significant savings at the cost of a cheaper case and keyboard.

I agree with NJTEX . You listed wifi internet as your number one wish, and its much easier to surf the web with a keyboard. I have an original eee PC netbook, and its great as a carry around media player. I also bought a GPS ($29 on eBay), to add Navigation. Not sure what you mean by car interface, there is a headphone jack you can connect to a car sereo with a line in connection.

Do not know much about the HP Netbooks, but I would also look at the newer EEE PC http://www.amazon.com/900HA-8-9-Inch..._ob_pc_title_1 its a great deal at under $300

is this ONLY for the car? if so, you might think about setting up a carputer

Thanks for the help! At first I was looking for something real compact for music alone, but this may be the way to go. Portability is key. Oh btw, these are not touch screens are they?

No touch screens, they are laptops, but half the size and weight. The displays are a little to small, and the keyboards too crampled for everyday laptop use, but great for media playing and web surfing.

They are small and light enough to carry around when you would not even consider carrying a regular laptop.

They fit between a high end MP3 player (Archos/Cowon) and a true laptop.
