Get this guys....I had an email from Richard yesterday about my P7. He sent it back to Ecuador and the dumb asses at FedEx lost the paperwork that was sent with the box. So it been sitting in Quito for 2 weeks. So yesterday they sent Richard an email telling him they needed a scan of my passport by Sunday, or they would send it back to SF @ Richard's expense!!

So they lose the paperwork and then take no responsibility. Anyway he provided a link for me to email scans of my passport/visa to FedEx.
But they waited 2 weeks before contacting anyone...unbelievable!!

Government is all about authority, but never about responsibility smile.gif

I hope you get it worked out.

Why would they need a scan of your passport for simply delivering a package? Would UPS be acting in this same manner? Excuse my naivete but I just don't understand.

Neither does Richard. Told me he has never heard of such a requirement. The box, paperwork should clearly show this a returned item after being repaired.
The P7 was originally on my shipping list 3 years ago. So maybe they want to be able to pull up that shipping list to see if it was indeed listed on that duty free container. Which it was.

There is always a possibility that they are locking for a donation to the widows and orphans wink.gif

Sure sorry to hear about the delay on your P7. Please let us know when you do get it and that everything is working properly.

Are you referring to the Aon 3's or just the Halo's?

The next step to get incrementally better is about mid $20 K. Bryston 28s would be a next step example along with some Chords but the JC1s are only $9K. Might be worth an audition.

I am very happy with the Classe CA-M600 they were made for the 800Diamonds

Did you buy it direct or through a local dealer? If you don't mind my asking, how long does it take to get something shipped there and how much on average? Are there any local dealers for higher-end equipment?

I bought the P7 through Audio Advisor when I was still living in NV. As far as shipping times, never know.
I've had packages show up in exactly two weeks. Sometimes as long as six. FedEx has had the P7 in Quito for two weeks
and it was shipped either on Good Friday or the following Monday. So that would be three weeks.

There is more gear/brands available in Guayaquil (largest city) than here in Cuenca. But we do have a Harman Pro shop in Cuenca. And I've been told if I wanted a pair of Revel Salon2, they could get them. I've bought a HK 3390, HK 3600 from them.

No, but if you're driving them with a Halo, I had to ask.
I planned on driving them with an A51. It should have enough power to make them sqeek wink.gif

Dr. Mark, what sort of electrical system do you have to juice those puppies? I'm sitting here, a brand new A52 at my feet (score! found a new one!), and fretting about current draw. What a coward I am!

Also, it's funny that a 70lb amp is essentially being called petite in this thread. Welcome to Parasound madness!

If you have a 20 amp circuit, you are good to go. Preferably a dedicated circuit.

I am running all this equipment including 2 battery backups, projector and my SVS PB12 ULTRA2 1k watt sub on 1 dedicated 15 amp circuit. I have never blown or popped a breaker yet.

+1

I actually tested the circuit one time with the entire system on running full tilt (actually much louder than I ever listen and I never have all the components on at the same time). Peak current draw was less than 5 amps. After that I never worried about if my lowly 15 amp circuit was sufficient. wink.gif

Be brave my fellow Para----noid! You're lowly 15 amp circuit and a 14AWG outlet is all you'll need.

10awg/ 20amp sounds better tongue.gif

My av rack is all on one dedicated 20 amp circuit along with my plasma and pj. The plasma pulls the most watts (440 or so). I doubt all the other components combined pull as much as the plasma by itself. But when everything is all on at the same time, I am sure I am pulling some strong load. Never checked it but that is why I went with the 20A in the first place - no worries and room for growth too.

Yup! the room to grow for me is to one day get some JC1's for my mains biggrin.gif

Here is a picture of my Munchkin cat atop my beautiful sounding Zdac. Anyone else have any interesting pictures of their Parasound Z series components?

After reading this stuff I decided to do some comprehensive tests on my own system and came up with entirely different results. Rather eye opening and shocking (pardon the pun) results.

First off, my equipment;

Halo C-2 controller
Halo A-31
Halo A-51
Oppo BDP95
Sony 60EX500 LCD display
Rythmik FV15HP sub
5 box fans for cooling the amps set on a variable voltage converter
2 computer monitors for displaying Oppo and C-2 info
7 PSB 4 ohm speakers

Here's the results using a Radio Shack AC Ammeter Probe Analog Multimeter;

all equipment unplugged from outlets - 0 amps
all equipment plugged in and on standby, 1.5 amps total
Amplifiers, C-2 and Subwoofer turned on and idling, 6 amps total
5 Cooling fans and 2 computer monitors, 7 amps total
TV and Oppo on and all equipment idling, 9.5 amps total
With the C-2 set to -12db, Prometheus chapter 32 when Alien Spaceship tries to leave planet (loud loud with awesome bass and effects) 12 to 16+ amps

Unfortunately, the previous owner schlub who built this detached garage that I've converted to my Home Theater had the infinite wisdom to install 20 amp breakers on 14awg wire.

I think I'll be getting some quotes to have the wiring upgraded pronto! YIKES!!! eek.gif
post #1856 of 3344
Looking at my results again I'm kinda wondering if my ammeter probe might be malfunctioning. It just doesn't seem right that powering up the C-2, both amplifiers and the sub would cause a 4.5 amp rise when they're all just idling. Isn't that something like 540 watts?

Any thoughts?
4.5 amps at 120 volts = 540 watts. What are the idle wattage specs?

Good question. I've seen the specs listed somewhere in this thread and hopefully someone will have answers for my Parasound gear. I'll inquire over on the Rythmik thread as to what the idling specs are for the sub.
I used a kill-a-watt meter on the a new A51 and got 2 watts in standby and 150 watts idle.
I believe that A51's standby was 25 watts but many amps had to change their design to comply with EU standards.

540 watts seems high for standby.
I recommend getting one of these to see who is drawing what:

http://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4400-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368110089&sr=8-1&keywords=kill-a-watt

I would not leave an amp plugged into it as I found it degrades the sound of some amps for some reason.

You may want to consider installing a 15 amp circuit breaker as a temporary measure or keeping a suitable fire extinguisher at the listening position.
