**Offical** Yamaha RX-V665 AV Receiver thread - Page 50

Just bought this receiver, on sale last week at Fry's for $299.

As for Cable box, I have Cox, and connected via HDMI, and no problems, I had a few early messages that said it wasn't compatible, but it was.

Happy with the quality of the receiver, given the cost, running on some old Aiwa speakers from long ago, but I'll upgrade at some point.

Does anyone know how to re-program the remote for a tv? I'm not sure what input key it is supposed to be tied to, i've tried pushing Code Set, then [A] but it flashes an error.

I can bind my TV to an input like AV1 so the TV buttons only work when AV1 is selected, but i want the tv buttons to work all the time.

Program the TV like any other device, except press [A] instead of AV1...

i plugged in my headphones after purchasing this unit recently and i only get a weak left channel sound. I am running an s/pdif cable from my soundcard from my computer and the headphones don't work with both channels (only left) and i'm also playing a CD from my X-Box running an audio CD with the same effect. If anyone could point me in the right direction so I can receive true audio (both left and right channel) through my headphones i would appreciate it.

Yeah i've tried that, as soon as i try to select [A] as the input i get an error code of 6 flashes.

Sweet i've got it working! In desperation tried using the PHONO button (which is right next to [A] on remote) as the input and now the TV buttons work perfectly at all times.

My remote must have a couple of crossed wires inside. The PHONO button works as intended on the receiver but if i program it to a tv code it functions as the [A] key. wtf.

Sounds like a poor physical connection of the headphone lead. Can you try a different set of headphones? Do your headphones get stereo sound with Tuner selected?

Hello, I'm coming from a Logitech z-680 (model before 5500) setup, so any amp upgrade will be a bonus but due to budget constraints and mid year specials, the 665 seems to be a sweet spot for the money I'm looking at spending ($899AUD), would this be a good entry amp for me? I understand these amps are on the povo side of the scale so I can't ask for much but there seems to be more cons then pros with this amp. Or will the 565 be more suitable for me? It seems the 565 has all the fatty gimmicks which I don't need trimmed, zone 2 is a bonus but not essential, also $300 cheaper but it might be worth to have a little more for the future.

I will be using my Jamo D-265 C's for fronts and some old Awai for rears and I have to source a center speaker, will be saving for some decent 5.1's soon.

Currently I have;

Samsung BD player
XBOX 360 (Component)
XBOX (Component)
HTPC

I didnt need anything the 665 had to offer so I got the 565. I love it, but in the future I would get something more "programmable", for example, individual speaker crossovers, etc...but I have no regrets. It sounds great with my Energy setup. If you were going to go up a notch, go with the 765...it has a better amp and is spec'd at 20Hz-20kHz. All that said, I think I get a good clean signal at -15 dB, which is pretty much as loud as anyone in the room can handle, and it goes to +16.5 dB. If you have any more questions about this unit, I know it inside out. Cheers.
If I go to the 765 then the prices increases to $1,599.00 if I got to the 565 then it drops to $599, prices in OZ are heavily inflated but obviously the 665 is on special. I was also told that the 565 was replaced by the 567 which is $150AUD cheaper then the 665.
wow. Have you tried online? the 567 is the firmware upgradable 565 for 3D, maybe an option or 2 more...go online at Yamaha and do a side-by-side compare. Unless you really need that extra power, the 565 might be good enough. It's definitely powerful enough for me...
I took out what both units share, most features I don't need, some I don't know what they are. I'm also not interested in gimmicky 3d rubbish so 1.4a is kind of useless for me.

I have a component video cable for my Wii with analog audio cables. The manual says to change the video out on audio #1 to AV-1. It doesn't give me that option. when I try to set it up. Can anyone help?

Does your unit have the lastest firmware?
It does now and it works
This is a new unit for me I a have everything up and running and am happy so far. I do have a couple questions. I am currently running the unit as a 5.1 with decent mid-fi speakers.

Is it worth the investment to add the back channel speakers and change the configuration to 7.1?
Is it worth the investment to add presence speakers?
You can check out the other thread/poll on how many speakers to use. There are arguments for both sides, but the question really is this "Is it worth it to you?" Someone else may not be able to live without it, but you may invest $1k in extending your setup and me disappointed in the gains you receive (or don't receive). Here is the [LINK] Good luck.

Most likely, the player is outputting video in a format that the TV does not support. Examples would include outputting 1080p to a TV that only supports 1080i, 24p to a TV that only does 60, etc.

Indeed - it depends on what you intend to use it for. We have several setups - a 7.1 home theater for Blu-ray and I couldn't imagine doing without those rear channels. But we also have a 4.0 setup (two fronts and two surrounds only) for TV and music listening, and that is more than adequate. Also 3.1 in the bedroom (L/C/R and sub) and there again, that is enough for what we watch in there.

Thanks; I thought about this but I thought the receiver adjusts to whatever resolution the TV supports.

The tv is a 720p toshiba; without having the manual in front of me; can you change the resolution that the receiver is outputting in?

You need to change the player's output to 720. The AVR does not scale HDMI video, nor would you want it to.

When playing a Blu-ray I get no sound if the primary format is HD-DTS MSTR. My current work aounds are either iI hir the "Options" button on the remote or re-seat the HDMI cable.

Your "fix" is simply forcing a new HDMI handshake. Sounds like an issue with the BD player, perhaps you can try a different audio setup there. Avoid "auto" type settings and go with explicit output settings.

i cant change the player's output to 720 b/c i cant see the menu b/c the output is set to 1080! (

Everything should show up on the front panel of the receiver.

Curious, what Blu-ray player are you using and what the setting on the player?
Ok i solved my problem...evidently all HDMI cables aren't made equal. I bought some $4 cables off the web a while back. Now, when using the cheap cables to run from the bluray player to receiver, that suited its purpose...however that cable wouldn't suffice as the cable to run from the AVR to the TV...perhaps not the most up to date cable? My dad had a rocketfish cable from best buy that did the job.
