Apricorn EZ DTS Enclosure not being recognized by WinXP

Hi,

I've had this enclosure for about a year now (w/ Western Digital Caviar SE 16 Model # WD5000AAKS) and I had used it to record shows on my SA 8300 and it worked fine for awhile but then after 6 months the DVR failed to recognize the external drive and I lost all my shows. Never investigated further.

Fast forward to the present where I no longer want to use it for DVR purposes but rather as an extra drive for my PC or laptop. When I try to connect it via USB to my laptop, nothing occurs (have Win XP SP2 w/ USB 2.0). The little icon does not display that usually does when new hardware has been connected. I thought it was the WD drive but then I tried putting a trusted drive into the enclosure and the same thing happened. I cannot get either my PC or laptop to recognize the enclosure with the 500GB drive. I investigated and there are no drivers to install and that Win Plug and Play should automatically detect the drive.

Any suggestions on what to do? I've since contacted Apricorn via email and voicemail but they haven't been much help.

Sounds like you are reluctant to replace the enclosure, so check all the solder connections. Often they become defective.
