Battlestar Galactica Complete Series - Page 47

So it's basically the UK set without the nice tin box and The Plan added. For a higher price.

I don't think so. I think it's going to be four full-size digipaks (i.e.; what they use for Heroes and the individual season releases) with that box as the outer shell instead of the CD-size booklet style packaging in the tin fridge.

I thought it was going to be the individual slim cases with a season case like the original DVD seasons were released in, but possibly Blu-Ray sized?

Link to details.

"UPDATE: Trade journal Home Media Magazine has gotten the answer to the question about the "Face of the Enemy" webisodes. In a story posted a bit earlier, the magazine's assistant managing editor John Latchem reports that Universal informs that these installments are NOT included on the repackaged Complete Series sets. Furthermore, John passes along that "a studio rep indicated there were no plans to release them on disc any time soon", pointing instead to their online availability. No reason was given for leaving this off of the discs (again)."

Obviously, Universal is repackaging the same Complete Series and The Plan discs in the reissued Complete Series. It's too costy for them to add Face of the Enemy to please the fans. If Universal is willing to release Face of the Enemy DVD disc, it will be good enough for me. I have been trying to get a good quality for the Face of the Enemy but each version I found has some kind of encoding problem with either the audio or video. The best quality version I have is when Xbox Live has the promo version but the video is locked to the X360 console.

The Blu-ray digipack case is quite decent. It holds the multi discs better than standard multi discs Blu-ray case.

"Slim Snap Cases with an Outer Box" doesn't sound like a Digipack to me. But then again, it's all speculation/rumors til we see a picture, right?

ACK!

"...and the high-def Blu-ray version will be "Digipaks with an Outer Box"."

My bad! The DVD complete series will be like the original dvd releases with the slim snap cases, the Blu-ray will be digipacks. (!@#$! I gotta learn to read!)

Eh, still better than both the previous US and UK releases.

What I've read is that the slim snap cases are only for the DVD release and that the Blu-ray release will be the digipaks.

Well, at least I'm in good company on the learning to read part!

That would be the ideal packaging for me. I like the DVD packaging (I own the first three seasons on DVD), and the individual cases are nice and simple to deal with.

Digi-packs are more workable than the first release of the series on BD, but I suspect they'll be more prone to damage from wear/tear if they're used frequently.

Oh well. This time I'll likely bite.

Looks like it'll be a good size smaller.

There's always the option to buy your own multi-disk cases and print up some cover art. That's what i did.

Just curious what specifically needs to be sent in to get these new cases? I got the form via E-mail it says (Please remove the top and triangular flap of season One" Top of what, the main box or the top of season one and the flap LOL

I cut the Centurian face flap including the top that shows "Blu-ray" from the Season 1 to send in. That covers the "top" and "flap" required for the replacement cases.
correct, the flap AND the top part that shows what format you bought it in.

Thanks Vortex3D and dvdguru for that information, I will be sending mine in today!

I appear to be in a slim minority but, unwieldy as it may be, I think the original U.S. box pi$$es all over this new revised packaging. Glad I own it, and I'll be damned if I would disfigure it in exchange for this new ghetto version.

I'm not too sure that the new packaging is perfect, but "pi$$es all over" and "ghetto version" regarding the new packaging? Really?!

The original packaging doesn't even meet the basic function of storing and providing decent access to the media. It's a complete PITA just getting the media out of the packaging, and cannot be done easily without holding on to the data side of the disc. A very slim minority indeed, me thinks.

In any event, we can trade in for functional packaging and keep our little Cylons.

I think the new packaging is ugly, bland, uninspired and, frankly, cheap looking. YMMV.

Remember, I admitted a) the original packaging was unweildy and b) that I was in a distinct minority for preferring it. Functionality of the packaging aside, I think it would be hard to argue that the original release is much more aesthetically pleasing. Getting shallow with it, it's just prettier!

"Prettier"!? Yikes. You like finned, rocker panel extentioned, winged ricers too? I know some people do and that's what the original packaging is like. Yuckers. I vote for an un-adorned Evo. I do know this is a matter of preference. So that's mine.

Well, I think the most beautiful car ever made is Christine, if that helps clarify...

Hmm. Well, I think form follows function, and the package you find "pretty", doesn't. And yes, I would not argue that the original release is "much more aesthetically pleasing"; it isn't. But as you say, YMMV, and you acknowledge that you're in the minority.

In an prior post I said the new packaging was unimpressive. Let me add uninspired. But if it functions properly, it'll be better. For me, anyway.

For fellow Canadians, I sent Universal an email today to see how they can accommodate us (seeing how the email clearly states US addresses only).

Will post a follow-up when the time comes. But if anyone else has info, please chime in.

Where is everyone claiming the superiority of this new packaging actually SEEING this new packaging? The only pics I've seen are of the outer box. Where is everyone seeing pics of where the discs are actually stored and what those digipacks look like?

I'm not sure either the overlapping disc style of packaging or the Torchwood "book" style (where it's near impossible to get the discs out) would be superior in this case, for me... I'm waiting to see what these digipacks look like...

Here's a brief summary:

-Universal US won't help and directed me to Canadian Office (no surprise there)
-Universal Canada is looking into offering package replacements but no plans yet.

So I'll assume that once again we're get screwed.

Did you know the packaging was bad before you bought this set? This whole I'm entitled to new packaging because I don't like (doesn't work well) it is crazy. You're not getting screwed. You got exactly what you paid for.

Yes - I knowingly purchased the box set. No, I didn't know how bad it would be (used to people complaining for lesser things).

Perhaps "screwed" is harsh, so please allow me to rephrase:

I find it very disappointing that once again Canadians are not eligible to take part in a program that is established in US for US residents only when a little more thought could have easily made it a North American program.

That's 100% better.
