TVGOS ( TV Guide On Screen ) Devices - Page 26

I was gone for two weeks and noticed this when I got home. All my listing are gone. The last download and Clock set was 8/10/2010 at 1851 UTC or 1151 local time in Tucson.
I left a message for the Comcast Tech that watches this for me. Hopefully I'll know something by Monday.

This also happened to me when our TV was not used (turned on) for 10 days while we were on a trip. However it returned if I remember correctly, 24 hours later after we began using the TV again. Weird???

Ross,
Maybe that is what happened. I did a soft reset last night and this morning it is beginning to populate the listings. One strange thing, CBS has no listings. I wonder if this is part of the Comcast Digital Downgrade that is coming on 8/25/2010?

This is posted over in the Sony DHG thread so I decided to add it here too. It is info on the analog and digital inserters that Rovi uses to insert their data into the host channel.

Here is the info on the analog inserter/encoder I got from Norpak.

Ok, I'm a little OCD about updates. 8/31 at 8pm. Zap2It has it, TVGuide.com has it for at least MSNBC, and my V8 Sony DHG doesn't since it has no listings for next Tuesday on any channel. TitanTV doesn't have it.

I receive V8 via analog cable from an inserter at a very small cable company. I've checked my 8 days of listings every morning since June 4. There are some observations.

June: Ads about 3 days a week. Normally on Sunday, Day8 (next Sunday) will have no listings. Things got worse as June progressed.

July: Total choas around the 4th. Things stabilized on July 9. Then the ads & listings went back to the June pattern. But on July 29, something happened.

August: Only lost ads once a week. Almost total listings. A few day 8 failures. Since August 18, the normal has been 100% ads & listings. Since August 28 is has been 100% totally.

I could conclude that if I have 100% service and you don't that Rovi has stabilized and you have a local problem. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. Also, even though I have lost 10 stations from my cable feed they still appear on the guide. I'm due to lose 12 more next month.

Next week, Labor Day, will be a good test.

Sorry I do not understand your post. However, if you continue to "lose stations", will you really need a guide?

See, you have found my problem: if the guide gets data (since it thinks I have a cable card and antenna), what happens when Rovi catches up? Also, by losing stations I should state I get guide data for a channel, but that channel has been deleted from my feed. So I have to map the channel, which I do for my V10 TV but can't do for my DVR. Ok, this sounds confusing for me too. But as example, CNBC is no longer on my analog selection yet it still shows on my listings.

Bottom line: Rovi has become more reliable over the last month for some reason. Fall schedule?

I haven't had analog TVGOS on Comcast for close to a month. I finally disabled it on my DVDRs because every time I turned them on they defaulted to the TVGOS screen. Guess it was nice while it lasted On the positive side, my daily TVGOS works just fine on my Sony TV running OTA

My Sony 32EX700 can be set to show channels or not when the guide button is selected. The Sony DVR, DHG-HDD250, can be set to power up to the guide screen or not. It's all an option. My V10 TV gets 24 hours of guide that assumes I like to watch analog channels. The guide comes from the internet. I haven't figured out that one yet. I can map the cable digital channels to the analog descriptions. I have found that it can create duplicate entries in the TV guide listings. More of a cosmetic problem.

Jed1; how much are those two items worth??

For the EH55, you could always try an Artec CECB.

Set it up for both cable and OTA. I don't know if the digital stream the Artec is supposed to convert would be the same as what my Sony DVR gets, but I still get the info for cable channels digitally OTA, just as I did with the analog version.

Of course, play at your own risk (you might be able to return it if it doesn't work, though).

Truth be told I rarely use my Panasonic DVDRs for scheduled recordings anymore. I just use my Tivo HD to do the recordings and offload it. I use zap2it online to check what's on cable, which is basically nothing for analog cable

We use Comcast analog cable in the Houston area and have also lost our TVGOS over a month ago. Still unable to confirm if this is a temporary or permanent outage. Comcast has not returned our calls. Rovi is not aware of problems in our area.
We love our panasonic dvr EH75; the loss of tvgos puts us back in the dark ages.
The EH-75v(along with it's VHS-less brother the EH-55) are considered by many to be the Pinnacle of DVDRs(Panasonics for sure). I took it as a very good sign when Comcast shut off the majority of the analogs and TVGOS still worked. Unfortunately it sounds like others with Comcast are having the same problem of no TVGOS.
No one at Comcast tech support seems to even know what TVGOS is, let alone if they still send it out

Contact your TVGOS host channels Chief Engineer and ask him if he can contact your MSO's engineer and look into the problem. He should also be able to contact Rovi.

How did you contact Rovl? How long did it take to get a reply?

Thanks

Their Consumer Relations representative name is 'Nick' and I have had several contacts with him via phone and e-mail. He has helped out any issue locally.
If the procedure hasn't changed, go to their web site and enter a ticket;

My version 10 feed is 22 hours slow. My version 8 is fine. Any others finding problems? Diags show clock source as NVM.

I thought V9 was the last version.

I guess not. It's on my Sony 32EX700. Data comes from a WiFi connection. I have an option to get it from the PSIP, but I have no PSIP channels. It doesn't like my cable feed anymore than my DHG. Only reason I even noticed it was off was that the banner clock went dead. Since it only needs 2 minutes to reset, I might do that. It's only 24 hours of guide listings.

My D-Link wireless router physically or Verizon DSL? It doesn't seem to require any Sony validation like some of the other TV services (pandora) need. I did a reload (takes about 5 minutes) and it's fine now. It wasn't slow. it was frozen. TVGOS 'tries' to integrate with the TV but fails sometimes. V10 can't accept raw QAM256 for guide data (nothing does I think) but I can remap channels in the guide. TV has no CC slot, so the guide would be better if I had an antenna. But then I might get PSIP data and wouldn't need the internet. This confuses the TV 'favorites' function with some network logo displays being ok, and some have nothing except channel number. Sometimes the 'favorites' get really messed up and I have to reset the TV. The guide does ask for my zipcode and specific feed provider to build the lineup, just like V8 except this happens and I'm done in 5 minutes. I didn't buy the TV because it had the guide. I seldom use it. It gets refreshed at midnight if I turn off the TV.

If you're asking who supplies the guide, I guess it's Rovi.

I had the same guide problems with my Sony, so I got rid of it. It would work fine for a few days at a time, then suddenly stop working. Months of working with Rovi, Comcast Cable, CBS management, and the local broadcasters only resulted in me vowing never to purchase a product with TVGOS on it again. The crew at Rovi became more and more arrogant as time went by and "my problem" was unresolved, and at one point I found myself in a heated argument with their VP during a conference call. And it didn't help that I was having similar issues with my Mitsubishi DLPs (which use a different version of TVGOS)...Rovi tech support kept blaming Mits for not "upgrading their sets". And Mits kept sending me firmware updates which never fixed anything...not even the mysterious reboots which still occur in the middle of the night while the set is off...and even with TVGOS disabled.

I am receiving TVGOS V10 from the internet. It supplies 24 hours of listings. Does V9 (from whatever source) provide 48 hours or more?
How is the setup done to establish the service, I'm sure you just don't plug in a Ethernet cable to the device?? Too bad it's only one days worth.

My cat could do it. Simply select TV Guide under Program Information Source and exit. Then press the Guide button and do the setup. It needs a zip code and possible an RF provider (I have two feeds). All done. Takes about 5 minutes over my Sony USB WiFi connection to a D-Link 655 router. Since Sony's marketing info states 48 hours I was curious if that was a V9 spec, or just wrong information. We both know Rovi and Sony have a communication problem.

Selecting TV Guide alters other items on my Sony 32EX700. I didn't enable it without some trepidation.
