How do I transfer with firewire?

I have a jvc everio gz-hd6 and I can't transfer my files with firewire. Sometimes my computer recognizes it (I have a hp dv9000, 2 gb ram) and other times it doesn't. Please help! I don't know what to do?

Try a different cable and/or computer port.

right-click on "my computer", then click "hardware", "device manager", the camera should show up under IEEE 1394 bus controllers... if there is a red mark through it, try to do a re-scan.

ferlon, is there a particular reason you are using firewire?

Your camcorder records mpeg-2 TS files to the hard drive or SD card...
You would normally connect to the USB (mini USb end on cable) on your camcorder to the pc USB (large USB end on cable) into your pc...

And transfer the files via the JVC software.

I'm just asking, maybe you already know.. but you don't have to "capture" out of the camera's firewire to the pc firewire card and playback in real time like with miniDV tape....

You go mini-USB to USB and transfer files, not capture. I guess firewire could transfer files...just wondering why you asked.

By the way, the mini USB on the camera looks very similar to the firewire, so make sure you don't put in the wrong one..

The manual is here:
