Hi Guy`s ,

It is still way too early ,but , I did find a link at Crutchfield dot com for the new 40".

They have spec`s , pic`s plus a video. ( No manual yet , so please post if you find a download site for the XBR9 manual , thanks. )

So far only the 40" , however 46" and 52" will follow.

I saw this on Crutchfield's site a few days ago and the contrast ratio specs were listed as 3,000 native, 50,000 dynamic. I called them to verify that information since the native contrast ratio is less than the xbr6 which is listed at 4,000. Now I see the contrast ratio specs are 100,000 dynamic, and no change for the native number. My guess is that the specifications are still in flux.

What has me excited about this set is the new Bravia 3 engine processing.
The fact that it has a better contrast ratio and ethernet capability over the XBR6 & 7 doesn't hurt.
I might just hold out for the XBR9.
I will know much more about this set in the next couple of weeks.

Yes , the price is high , and I`m waiting for the 46"

But I think that by the time I`m ready to buy ( this fall ) the price might come down.

First I need to see the manual !

I have the KDL-40XBR2 right now and it is a great LCD-TV , and since I put a Red bezel on it , dad keeps asking me "when can I have it " ?

So I will see what the manual has to say , and wait for some more reviews , and maybe this fall pick up the 46".

I believe that when the XBR9 first hits the stores the price will be high (Retail price) but after a few months Sony will lower the price to make them more competitive.
I would also guess that there might be a rebate discount applied come late fall or around the holidays.
If you can hold out you will definitely get a better price.
If you want this set when it first comes out, you will have to pay the full price.

I wonder how the "Z5100" series will spec out against the XBR9 !

Might be a better deal

Ya , I can wait for a better price , I`m in no rush.

Very happy with the XBR2 that I have now , but would like a Sony with a higher scan rate of > than 60 Hz

I wonder what else Sony has up there sleeve ? Find out soon I guess, thanks for the link.

Just read the entire XBR 9 report, that was supplied by Sony for the Spring Show.
Native Contrast is 4000 and Dynamic is 100,000.
Bravia Engine 3 for processing, but not the Pro version.
Nothing else really ground breaking, that hasn't been already been posted on Crutchfield's site.

Enough new features on the XBR9 for me to by pass the XBR7
Will be returning my new 52" XBR6 and wait for the new 52" XBR9

I never liked xbr6 and thought xbr7 52 inch was an expensive step in wrong direction. 52 inch, should in category of xbr8 quality for around 3K, and 55 inch for 3.5 k, and 65 inch, for 4.5 k, if sony wants to be reasonable? that I doubt though.

Picked up the 32xbr9 for a screaming deal online and I have to say the wait was worth it! My Bolt bluray looks incredible with the 120hz motionflow turned on and I have not really experienced a problem with the autodimming yet. I am getting the Dark Knight to test the dark scenes for that. I definitely have to say that I'm glad I waited for it instead of getting the xbr6. It only cost me slightly more than many of the clearance 32xbr6's and as of now I have no clouding, flashlighting, dead pixels, nothing. I realize that may change as the set gets used more but I think I got a keeper! The lack of a headphone out is a little lame but I use a mixer so it's not a big deal. The xbr9 makes SD look REALLY dated though so I have to tinker with settings. Anyone find good settings for SD content?

I know when I started this thread that it would be awhile before it really got going , but I would have liked to have been able to download the manual for the 46XBR9 by now.

upgrade might be worth it but down grade to 8 inches of smaller screen might not be

Even though the screen size was smaller on the 52", the brighter colors, clarity, sharpness, and 3-D pop effect, made such a difference, I didn't even notice the size difference anymore.
Another thing with these newer, sharper, detailed sets, is you can also sit closer to the set.

by putting set on the wall, u gain abt 2 feet too.

i sit about 8 feet away from my 60", small room. the smaller screen size will definitely help. i cant wait until it comes out.

I just wish this is true because I really want to get a 55" to replace the 60" but if you can go all the way to 52 from 60 will give me something to think hard about.

although the 55 will be with the luxia because highway robbery is not my type of fun.

The 32XBR9 definitely has the auto-dimming "feature" that's part of the Bravia2 engine. I picked up the set 2 weeks ago, and I could not defeat this "feature". So I exchanged it for a Samsung LN32B640, which IMO is a much better set all around. It is more adjustable for calibration (blue mode, CMS, etc.), dithers better, etc. I can't believe Sony is getting away with this auto-dimming BS, but they are. And if anyone asks, yes I had mine calibrated, etc., and the auto-dimming is still noticeable.

One notable change I can see already that may not be favorable, is the relocation of the HDMI inputs.

There is now only one HDMI input located on the rear panel of the set, and the rest (3) have been moved to the side panel.

What is up with this?

I sure hope that you don't see the HDMI cables sticking out of the side of the set, as this would be very unsightly.

I think that is a bad move

They should be rear mounted , I thought the same thing about the cables showing.

From what I can tell with the new XBR9 we get the "Widgets" and B3 processing plus 240 Hz.

How much better is the 240 compared to 120 ?

Right now I have the XBR2 that only has 60Hz and YES , I see lines , and that is a pain.

On the other hand , HD is fine , even sports. Some SD channels show the weakness of 60Hz more than others.

I don`t have BD ( yet ) , just an up-converting dvd player ( DV-79AVi ) and the picture looks great @ 1080i.

I guess my set is one of a very few that is almost color perfect with NO shadows that have plagued so many XBR2`s.

I don`t even have to use the white balance mode , it is fine with no adjustments at all.

My dad wants my XBR2 , because I put a Scarlet Red bezel on it !! LOL

So , what I have to do is find out if 240Hz is that much better than 120Hz.

I have a Mac Mini hooked up , so getting any internet stuff would be a non issue for me.

So what I have been looking at is the KDL-46W4150 .

It has 3 HDMI ports in the rear , but is 120Hz , but has a lot of other goodies like screen freeze.

So add what I like about the W4150 + the fact that it is half the cost of the XBR9 , I am some what confused about a future purchase.

Depending on how the cables attach this might e a deal killer for me. I'm going to try and hit the Sony Style store this weekend to take a look.

Just confirmed with my local store that they have the new Sony 52" XBR9, setup right next to a Samsung 52" LN52B750 and a Sony XBR7.
My store rep said the new XBR9 has the best picture , but need to confirm this for myself.
With this particular setup up, it will be very convenient to perform multiple tests, to determine which set actually looks and performs the best.
While report back with my findings.
