If you check the front of your manual, you may notice that the 32XBR9 is really a 1080p version of the V5100 series. I had one until last month. It was a very nice set with no display problems. But I wanted something new, so I now have a 32EX700. The difference in PQ is minimal, and both sets have a zillion ways to change things. I like the remote for the XBR9 so much more than the EX700 that I bought one. Some of the settings for larger XBR9 models may not correlate, like warm1, since the 32" only has warm. I would suggest the V5100 thread and see if some of those posts have the information you need. Perhaps someone here may also have suggestions. Best of luck.

Just a little advice. I have the 46xbr9, and I found several different sets of calibrations on web sites and in forums. Any one of them was a good place to start, but in the end I found my best picture quality by tinkering with the settings myself. It takes some time, but I found that was the only way to adjust the TV to suit my room environment and my own personal tastes. Once you find some time and get into it, it's actually fun and gratifying. Good luck!!

I have the latest firmware and just begun experiencing the occasional restart where the tv shuts off and then comes right back on. Is this the tv shutdown problem mentioned earlier? If it is, it does not appear to be resolved.

technically for this year, i guess it would be the HX701 spec-wise. Only 240Hz CCFL-based LCD in their lineup this year, but does not bear the XBR designation.

you could also say they were replaced by the XBR10 LEDs from late 2009, which were not very good.

this year's XBR sets are the LX900 and HX909.

I fixed this problem by doing a factory reset. It hasnt happened again once I did this

I have a troubleshooting question ..perhaps some of you have this same problem....I notice on the input list whenever you plug a device into that Input (ie : Video/Compent 1........Video/Component 1 gets Highlighted) and when you UNPLUG the device from the TV, the highlight turns off....as it normally should.

But here's the problem : when I plug in the "HDMI 1" device, the HDMI 1 highlight turns on BUT......when I unplug the device....THE HDMI 1 Highlight STAYS ON when it should be OFF. I only have this problem with "HDMI 1".

Could someone please explain this....Thanks.

Anyone with a 52" XBR9 or XBR9 version.
I have the 52" XBR9, in Nov would be 1 year old. The problem I am having now is that. When I turn on the unit. There is a message saying "POWERING ON" for about less then a minute. Then when I change channel. There is a black bar covering the TV screen. Maybe 4" from top to bottom. I know know for a fact is not the format issue. If anybody have/had heard of this problem.
Please help.

I have a KDL-32XBR9 which I bought about 7 months ago. I've flashed its firmware and it's at the latest version. I've been watching the TV using it's "Standard" video setting

The reason I'm posting is because I've had a non-stop headache since Feb 2010 [5 months]. I get some relief, but usually there's ALWAYS some pain above\\behind my left eye (under the "eyebrow bone", if that makes sense)

I've seen all the doctors, had eye exams, MRIs, tried all the painkillers, etc. Nothing.

Then it hit me...

The pain REALLY flared up after watching the World Cup (on the XBR) for about 5+ hours the other day.

When the headache FIRST started in Feb, it was during the Olympics, which I watched (on the XBR) for several hours a day, for 3 weeks.

Could this TV be the trigger for my headache?!?!

If anyone has had similar experiences, OR if you can advise which settings to adjust, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

I've searched this forum a bit, but of course, I'm sitting in front of a LCD screen doing so, and I'm really trying to limit my exposure. I apologize if this topic has been done to death and I didn't happen to find it. But having a headache for 5 straight months is a real bummer... I hope someone can help.

That's awfully strange. It sounds like a defect with your XBR9. I would call Sony support for assistance and see if a tech can come to look at your 52".

Just curious what is your brightness level at and how much ambient light is there? I personally was getting a headache watching my friends 65" Aquos awhile back only because he has his set on a very high brightness level. But he is use to it.

As far as ambient light goes, I usually turn on 4 wall sconces each @ 60w incandescent, in a fairly large living room, plus some sunlight coming in during the day, through a large patio door.

Regarding settings, I've been using the "Standard" video mode, which has the following settings [values in brackets]:

IMO, the Backlight is kinda high in the Standard mode. See how it fairs for you with that scaled down. I personally have mine at set at 1-2.

I can't quite figure out why you would be maxing out your gains. It also sounds like you have a similar setup, as I also have a large patio door opposite my TV, and those custom settings have worked well with the amount of ambient light in my room during the day, and the same settings work well at night.

No, you need to see a headache specialist. I've had chronic daily headache for years, not caused by the XBR9.

3D gives me a headache such as 3D Imax. But I'd say this is a freak occurrence for you.

I have been trying to update my Bravia 46XBR9 now for three days and I am getting no where. Tried through the internet, for it keeps telling me that there is a new update (aa0176pn) from the one I have installed (aa0143pn). I press update and I get the server can not be accessed at this time, so I went to the Sony website and downloaded the update to a jump drive. It recognizes the USB and starts to update when I get an, there was an error updating error code (6002) contact Sony. Now after talking with Sony and going through their steps, they are sending me a jump drive with the update on it, but for some reason I think the problem is more than that.

How do you make the TV factory reset? I have tried the hold up arrow and press power, but that doesn't work.

Has anyone else experienced what I am going through? If so, how did you fix it or what was the out come?

I got this TV for fathers day in 2009 so the thing is not old by any means, and I take good care of it.

Can somebody please help me out with this!

Xander Kage, this may help. From Sony's firmware upgrade instructions:

"Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If the software update does not automatically begin when you connect the USB storage device to the TV, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device."

I used the usb device Sony sent for my first few updates just to be safe, now I use those usb drives when I download an update from Sony support. Good luck.

Hello all

I noticed a problem popping up on my family's 52XBR9 and I was wondering if others maybe had this problem or might know a solution.

There seems to be a vertical band of discoloration going across the top to the bottom of the television. One doesn't notice this normally, but at other times (usually when there are simple, light colors) it's really obvious and distracting.

Here are photos I took of it. The photo quality masks the problem a bit, sorry about that. It starts from about the center of the set and extends towards the right for a bit. Try to look on the shirt for the discoloration.







I outlined the problem area in this image here, if you can't see it in this picture due to the red outline then take a look at the pictures above in this area and see if you can spot it:


Anyone else have this problem before? Any ideas on what I can do?

Anyone else having juddering problems while using theater mode? I own a 40 xbr9 and am wondering if I should contact sony about this. It happens when Motionflow is on High and CineMotion is on Auto 1. I like that smooth soap opera effect but it judders from time to time when on theater mode, especially through fast action scenes.
