I believe strongly in multiple subs but question whether your maxim always applies. I would use a Danley DTS20 sub as an example, which retails for around 3K without amp. What (3) $1000 subs would you recommend to exceed the performance of the DTS20? I have not experienced any. It would seem to me you could argue that you can achieve more even response with thee $1000 subs, but I don't believe you could approach the output or low end capabilities of the DTS20.
