I deactivated and tried to reactivate the player to Netflix but it says it can't activate and to call LG. Anyone else have this problem?

Got home today and was getting ready to call LG about this. Turned on the 390 and it's working again. Just watched an episode of Legend of the Seeker. So I don't know, at this point, if this was a glitch on Netflix's end, or a glitch in the player.

That's right: mpeg-2 is LCD, but in a context of 390 I'd use some mpeg4 as they are much smaller without sacrificing a quality.

Question. Most of what I've been downloading is .flv. I then convert it to .avi using WM 12.3 (OK - not great) and then record it to a regular DVD in order to watch it on my 390. Is there a better format? Also when I first got it wouldn't recognize downloaded .mp4. Has that changed? I have also done a few conversions to .mpeg2 and that worked ok. Is there a better way to record.

FYI - I have both the LG BD390 and the Samsung BD-P3600. I stream Netflix on both.
Right now (9:40pm EDT) I am unable to stream Netflix on either player. Both players say
that the device cannot be activated when I try to connect to Netflix. There must be a
problem on Netflix's end.

Thats about the same time my wife received the same Netflix message hammeron. Definitely seems like a netflix issue.

Just a minute ago, I received an email from Netflix apologizing for technical difficulties and the inability to stream movies. They offered a small refund to my account if I had attempted to watch any movies. Since I didn't try last night (the time of the difficulties), I won't apply for the refund. At least they're trying to make it up to people.

Thanks hammeron56 and Son1cDeth for the posts. I'm relieved that it's apparently netflix and not my 390.

Try in combination with player's reset or without.

Hey ptsenter -

THANKS!!

The firmware upgrade did fail and I was thinking it was because I had no network connection, however, it's quite possible the wireless upgrade caused the problems, this was suggested by a local (non LG) tech as well.

Unfortunately, I already send the player back, however, will use the usb to download the latest firmware with the replacement. It will make me feel much better.

I have a Qnap NAS server running Twonky with some 12000 songs (most of them pure wav-pcm) and it's working great in the PS3 DLNA.
Does anyone else have any experince with BD390 and Twonky media server?

I know that I have more than 2,000 media files. Does it just not even display more than 2,000 files even if they are in sub-folders?

Finally I had a chance to test the latest release and have to admit LG's stopgap solution - direct access to files on shared drives - improved my media experience substantially. I can view (play) my pictures finally. And there is no 2000 files limit with this option - yeah.
But I haven't been able to play a music in background: as soon as I leave a folder or album with my song the player cuts it short.
LG please don't stop the music.
As far as DLNA per se is concerned there are no improvements.

At least I'm glad they accepted it for replacement.
And USB option should definitely make everybody feels better. It does for me also.
Unfortunately we lost a chance to test USB upgrade and check if it would fix your player without LG intervention which is important as soon as warranty expired.
As it's customary with LG this option does not have a link at a "Support" tab for 390. And USB option is not even mentioned in a manual.

These all are good questions. But I don't believe I can answer them in general. It all depends on your personal priorities, your equipment, if you already have a network in your house or willing to spend time and money to establish one, if you cut DVD do you want to be backward compatible - I mean do you want to be able to lend this DVD to your friend to play on a regular DVD player. ...
I don't use .mp4, but based on posts in this thread yes 390 plays them.
Yes, the 390 plays mp4. I have a Flip HD Ultra that records in that format and the videos play wonderfully on the 390 via the new "shared file" connection.

Ever since the last upgrade where you can view shared folders I cant get any of my media servers to be seen like jamcast. Only shows my computer. I want to know if pandora can be streamed to the player from my computer. Also i see on LG web page for the BD390 it not only lists netflix you tube and cinema now but also VUDU. Is this service coming to the player as well

I need to check to see whether my TVersity still works, since I have been running the file sharing only since the update.

Last I heard, Pandora was not supported, but that is very cool about Vudu, since I hear really good things about their "HDX" movies, called the best streaming HD.
called LG and they confirmed that VUDU will be a firmware upgrade at some point for the BD390 I went on Vudu web page and it looks like it is true since it says will be coming to netcast enabled blu ray players. I wonder if it will just be movies or will it be like the Vudu box where it gets things like pandora and picassa.

I think have the same problem. I just set up my new BD390 and have updated the firmware to the latest version. The BD390 can see my computer, but no content (files or folders). I'm running Vista Home Premium and went in and tried sharing out My Pictures folder to all users and did a rescan (blue B button, I think) and the BD390 still doesn't see any content or files on the computer.

I was hoping I could get file/folder visibility without installing Nero and whatever else comes on the CD-ROM packaged with the BD390. Unless it's absolutely necessary, I really want to avoid installing any additional custom or bloatware on my computer.

The BD390 and my computer are both going through a Linksys WRT54G router, if that makes any difference. I don't suspect any settings on the router, because my computer (and even my network printer) is showing up just fine on the BD390 list of servers ... could it be a firewall setting or something on the Vista side?

Am I right, that I should be able to "see" files and folders without installing any of the LG-provided software? If anyone has this working on a PC running Vista, can you please outline what steps you took to get file/folders to show up on the BD390?

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice!

Assuming you have protection on your router to prevent someone from connecting to your network :-

Right click the folder you want to share in Vista - select Share - on the popup window make sure you select everybody and then click ADD - then bottom of same window click SHARE.

Reboot your PC -
Turn on your BD390 and let it search for the server.
You should now see within that folder.

Hi, I have noticed that while watching netflix on my BD370, that it seems a bit jumpy, like it is only showing about 15 frames per second, instead of 30 (or whatever it is supposed to). I have seen this on the imax nile river and on college road trip.

I have a 12 mbs Uverse connection and it is hardwired - although there are 2 switches between the router and the LG (1 Dlink 8 port Gig router near the Uverse gateway and 1 Linksys 605 Gig switch behind the TV).

I have the latest firmware - any ideas guys? Thanks, Chris

I just tried the BD390 with an ethernet cable to see if I got a better/faster/higher quality picture on netflix... the number of quality bars was the exact same with wireless. So I don't know if there will be any benifit to being wired.. maybe there won't be any pauses or re-buffering while watching.. even though I haven't had that problem much..
sucks..

If I use the server option and the bd390 is wired.. should it still be able to see the server? I haven't even got into this yet and know nothing about how to do it??

When I switched from wireless to wired (via powerline adapter), it saw the server the same way. I also had the same number of "bars" for the connection, but there were a couple of HD movies that had trouble streaming wirelessly that streamed smoothly when wired.

Install the k-lite codec pack first and then tversity and it plays just about anything you can imagine. Just wish there was thumbnail support with the 390. tversity said they are trying to implement that in next version so dlna devices will show thumbnails for videos and not just pictures.

Hey DustinF, how in the world did you get it to work with k-lite and TVersity. I have the same results as when I installed Tversity and all its codec packs. The only way I can watch anything is to hardcode the Device to be an XBOX 360. What are you using for "Media Playback Device" in TVersity, and what does the LG 390 show up as? Also, did you make any changes to the K-lite codec install or did you just accept the defaults?

VuDu would be awesome.

Just so that others don't get confused by this, the new VUDU support by LG is for their TVs only.
if they can (and want to) pull it off, that day isn't here yet.

Apparently, it's not far off.
The official website now lists Vudu!

Flippin' awesome!

Some movies are encoded poorly and have this weird stutter issue. All Starz Play titles I've seen have the same problem. You can view them on the PC with the Silverlight player and they look the same.

Got the BD390 delivered from Amazon today, upgraded to the latest firmware.

1) Tried NetFlix HD, excellent quality. Youtube was alright.
2) Played .ts files from my NAS, plays fine but no ff/rw seeking.
3) The 7.1 DTS-MA disc - Space / Alexander Jero - No go, gets recognized as AVCHD disc, no audio using passthrough.
4) Tried 'Slumdog Milioniare', gets locked up into a blank screen. Have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to power off.

I'm disappointed, knew I should have went with the Sammy 2500 or BDP-83, but NetFlix tempted me
