Great thanks it should be ok under my Sony DVD-R PVR as the 930 is wider than everything else

Fellow Canuck, I believe you have to enable the guest account and ensure it has read access. The BD390 can't log in and therefore isn't part of "everyone" group as that's only logged in users.

Good luck!

Does anyone get more than one green bar on HDX?

I just got my BD390 yesterday, connected it wirelessly over 802.11n network, upgraded firmware to latest version with VUDU support. Had issues watching trailers on VUDU with HDX where it would start playing, then stop and load, and then commence playing again. Didn't have these issues with HD quality trailers. Only getting one bar on the VUDU connection meter. Any suggestions appreciated!

Sure enough, the order confirmation email showed Nov. 24 to Dec. 28 for delivery.

Later, after I order, I noticed the Amazon price zoomed up $40 but showed in stock. I thought, what the heck, I pay less and wait 1-2 months for delivery but if you pay the high price you get it in stock?!

Then later on the same day I ordered, Amazon emailed me that the unit would come in sooner, Nov. 9 to Nov. 20. I thought cool, I wish it would bump again. I logged into Amazon again later in the same day and my order showed shipping on Nov. 2 and delivery on Nov. 9 to Nov. 16th. A bit closer still.

Now today, the very next day after ordering, I get an email saying my unit has shipped. Sweet! .... weird ... but sweet. So you may wish to wait for the low price to appear and order, then see if you get a quicker ship day. One day after ordering is fantastic. Can't wait to try this player out. Just a heads up on a great price.

I noticed something similar with Amazon when I ordered my 390 from them a couple weeks ago. I had put it in my Wish List, then noticed a day later the price had dropped by about $30 (available from Amazon). So I ordered it. Then I checked the price ONE DAY later, and it had jumped back up by $30 (and was available not from Amazon, but from another company through the Amazon Web site). Weirdness...the price has been jumping a lot lately.

I only get one bar too but seldom have problems playing VUDU content. Very rarely I get a rebuffer at the beginning of a trailer. How fast is your internet over wireless? I am getting about 7 plus speed.

The HDX content requires about 4.5 MBs. (I think HD requires only 2.5) If you have 5 MBs service, you will frequently hit that line or lower, depending upon traffic.

One odd note is that I usually get just one bar on Vudu, but it jumped to 3 on one particular trailer, then down to one on the next. Since my Pioneer plasma is 720p, normal HD is as good as it gets for me anyway.

I plugged my internet direct into the player and still only got one bar most of time...and I am getting 15-20 MBs off ethernet. Not sure why only one bar shows..I guess it doesn't really matter as long as the movies play well..but psychologically I would love to see 2 or 3 bars green..lol.

My HDX viewings always start at one HDX bar then after a few seconds always jumps to 3 HDX bars.

At one bar you are getting a lower quality encode. There are different encodes used based on the streaming speed and it switches seamlessly between them.
To get the highest quality streaming encode you need three bars.

try entering the DNS server addresses from your ISP directly into the BD390. See if that helps. I know with mine, since doing that, I've had no drops out of HDX and consistently get three HDX bars a few seconds after the title starts.

I tried that a couple days ago and it made no differerence at all. So if I get one bar I am getting a downgraded picture quality?

Is there any way to check what my wireless network connection speed is on the BD 390? Since my router and the BD player are both draft n, I would assume it is higher than the 54 Mbps that wireless g allows. For instance, I have a wireless desktop that gets 130 Mbps, while my netbook (also with wiless n) only gets 65 Mbps.

The bars don't show for very long..they jump to the top and dissapear shortly after the show begins. Any way we can check it again while the movie is playing?

You hit the display button.

This is how I've been checking periodically during titles to make sure it's still three bars.

I find mine is changing back and forth between one and two..and three bars show now and then...wonder why? Update...it seems that after the show plays for 30 seconds or so they go up to 2 or 3 bars and stay there. Thanks for the tips!

I have read the posts regarding Netflix and LG BD players and the recent problems with the Netflix Servers.
I have had the BD370 player for about 3 weeks and I have viewed a lot of classic TV comedy episodes with no problems and good picture and OK sound.
Everything was fine until last Thursday. I had turned on the player and was greeted with a "no connection to the Netflix Server".
I did the usual power disconnect for the Verizon DSL (Actiontec) and the player with no change. Still no connection to the Netflix Server.
I tried to watch the shows on my Compaq Laptop and everything was fine.
After reading many of the posts on this forum, I decided to convert the laptop to hardwire internet from its wireless connection thinking maybe there was a problem with the wireless setup.
According to Actiontec everything was fine.
I started the player again and problem solved. I have had no further issues
with the Netflix Server.
I still don't know why the wireless connection caused a problem.
I had tried several things but just changing from wireless to wired on the laptop solved the problem.
I hope this helps someone else.

FWIW Updated the Harmony 880 to include the BD390.
Works like a charm. Most all device functions are present.

At least they are trying to fix it..meanwhile the brief FF or RW trick does it. One thing I was wondering is whether a particular internet provider might be causing this? I have Comcast..what about the rest of you with this issue?

I'm on AT&T DSL (6Mx768K). Watched a couple shows last night and didn't see the error message.

I'm currently using DTS Re-encode over SPDIF to my 5.1 DTS/DD receiver. My receiver has analog inputs so I was just curious if anyone in a similar situation has used analog and could comment on the difference in sound quality. Would it be worth switching to analog or would it be a waste of time (and RCA cables)?

I'm beginning to think that's the issue: the color problem (of the LG BD390) is rare but random and happens anytime, often goes away with switching to a different HDMI and back, but last time I did that the LCD then reported no signal no matter what I did, until I rebooted the deck, then it was OK. I also get the problem on different HDMI inputs (but not yet on a Toshiba LCD). Got it to go bad once by rebooting both devices at once: I like the handshake theory.

BTW, the LG reported it had lost my network and wanted to reset, but my iPod said it was fine, so I just rebooted the LG and the network was back, no password required.

I've only had my 390 for a week now, but I've discovered that happening, too. "No network connection"....when I restart the 390, it's back just fine. Annoying.

Theoretically you should get better sound using the analog outs because Dolby TrueHD & DTS-MA signals won't be re-encoded. However the problem with must player that provide multichannel analog outs, like the BD390, is they lack essential settings like sound delay and adjustable crossover that even the cheapest receiver has. So if it was me I'll keep the configuration you have right now. The small increment in sound quality you will gain by switching to the 5.1 analogs outs will be negated (in a big way) by the lack of proper speaker settings.

Guys,

been reading the last 20 or so pages of this thread and have a question. Will the 390 play TS or M2TS rips without transcoding over DLNA or SMB like my popcorn hour a-110.

If yes, will it either bitstream or decode DTS-MA and TrueHD on those streaming TS files?

Thanks....

if yes this could replace 3 devices I have now. PS3 BD player, Netflix roku box and my popcorn hour A-110

I check speed (whenever I do) on a wireless-n connected laptop next to the BD player. Don't know if there's any way to check in on the BD390 itself (?).

Hey guys. I'd really appreciate if someone could help with this.

I got a 390 yesterday and I'm trying to use the 6000.zip hack to make it multi region for DVD's. However, when putting the disc in, it just says "Check Disc". I assumed this was because of it having new firmware.

I managed to track down older firmware online - BD.8.08.333 - and I installed it.

However, I still get the "Check Disc" error.

Is there even older firmware available? If so, if any of you have it, would you be able to send me a private message on here with a link to where I can get it?

It would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance if any of you are able to help.

Also if any of you know for a fact that it isn't possible and I'm just wasting my time, please let me know.

Many thanks.

CaseyR

EDIT - I've seen some people mention a firmware number - BD.7.08.253.B - does anyone have this and would be willing to send it?

I can see both machines under My Media, but no folders for either (pressing enter on the server's name does nothing). I have bitdefender on both machines but have included the BD390 IP in the trusted network (I also tried disabling all firewalls, including the router). I also set the Workgroup name on both machines to MSHOME and WORKGROUP - neither worked. I am from Canda and have the latest firmware (527). Am I still missing something??

I did enable the guest account and gave full rights access for both sharing and file permissions to be sure. I can see from my bitdefender firewall that there is some network traffic coming from the BD390 but there is no log entry pertaining to what is happening. I see from some previous posts that some people have got it to work without enabling simple file sharing so I figure I'm still missing something. Does the BD390 try to authenticate as guest or is it an anonymous login? I will keep trying to figure things out - thanks for your input.
