BD370/390 LG Blu-ray player Master/Owners thread - Page 104

My BD390 is HDMI connected to an AV receiver which is HDMI connected to a 1080p Samsung HDTV. The HDTV is capable of handling whatever video resolution it's sent (my receiver is HDMI passthru for video). For this setup is it better to leave the display resolution in the BD390 set to AUTO? Or is it better to set the BD390 display resolution to 1080p - and let HDTV handle it?

When you open Netflix page hit Ctrl+F, type "contact us", hit Enter and you will be placed on a link to contact, including phone, Netflix support.

Thanks. I'll call them after work tonight. I didn't see any way to email them, and the "report a problem" links were only for specific issues.

But keep in mind that a firewall or some (antivirus programs) may block this and will require adjustment. With Zonealarm set to 'trusted' on my internal network no adjustment is necessary.

I have not encountered the CFIS password situation but there are some posts on this thread that reference that. Do a search.

Sorry, it's Windows 7 and I tried everything and it won't even show any shares from this PC at all.

When you get the CIFS prompt just type in the username/pwd you use to log into your computer. It'll only prompt you once...

Thanks but the CIFS prompt shows up on the PC with the shares. The Windows 7 PC that I have the recorded TV programs doesn't even show any shares at all.

what if we dont use a password log in? can it still be done?
If you don't have a password configured for your user then try just entering the username and leaving the password blank.

With Winows 7 you need to set up your HomeGroup. When you do that you will be telling it what folders will be shared. I have no problem seeing files over my network on the three machines I've upgraded to Windows 7.

Go to the Control Panel and click on “Choose homegroup and sharing options”

It's showing the files now and it shows 2 for the one recording. It's a .wtv file and the LG player is telling me "Cannot play this file" now.

Best way to watch with uncompressed video is use TXMuxer on the ripped main movie m2ts. You have to highlight the HD audio track and put a check in the Downcovert TRUE HD to AC3 or DTS. I made .ts files. Rise or the Lycans with 25Mbps overall bitrate and AC3 streamed with out skipping using 100M wired. Benjamin Buttons with Overall bit rate 33.4 Mbps and DTS skipped when streamed. I put it on a 2.5 UBS drive and it played with no skips so far. Didn't watch the whole movie.

It seems the highest bitrate I can stream with my 100M wired network is 25Mbps.

Would a wireless N be faster then a wired 100M?

aww man, too bad there arent any bluray players that can play bluray rips as well with no video compression an hd audio. going to have to wait and see what the dune hd 3.0 player can do.

wireless will never be as fast as wired. for high bitrate files i would go wired or usb. i can't do wired as my computer is upstairs and player would be downstairs so usb is my only hope.

Since your AVR is pass through either one will work. My AVR is a Sony 820, also pass through, have tried both .. no difference.

Hi All.
I've had a problem for about a week . I can no longer stream Netflix from my bd-390. Vudu works OK. I spoke with LG, they directed me to Netflix. Netflix says that it was a bad LG firmware upgrade. I haven't seen any mention nor does LG have a resolution for me. Has anyone else heard about this?
Thanks,
Zaxdad

Just bought my first movie on Vudu. Very disappointed to find out that some of their movies are only available in stereo! Plus, since they use Dolby Digital Plus, my Yamaha RX-V863 can't apply any matrix processing. This really decreases my level of interest in Vudu.

I ordered my 370 today to replace my Panny BD35K. I hope I don't regret it.

What does DD+ have to do with matrix processing? with my receiver it doesn't matter whether it's DD or DD+ or DTS-MA etc.
If your receiver has a problem with it then you need to set the BD390 to decode it and send out PCM.

And as far as some movies only available in stereo, VUDU has no control over this. This is the same with all providers of VOD. They can only encode what is givem them by the studio. Many times the studios only give them a stereo master to encode and not a multi channel master. But whatever VUDU receives that is what they encode.
You need to talk to the movie studios if you have problems, but it won't change what they do.

The movie studios dictate the rental period, the quality of the master they give them, and whether the title can be in HD or Sd and whether it can be rented, purchased or both. They could give them a crap master or a great one. But either way the VOD providers have no control over any of it. The Studios control all of this.

So don't blame VUDU, blame the movie studios.

If the 370 is anything like the 390, you won't regret it. I haven't used my panny BD35 since getting my LG BD390. The BD35 is like a turtle compared to the speed of the LG.

I believe this is the most complete list of differences:

If your receiver has a problem with it then you need to set the BD390 to decode it and send out PCM.

If he wants to apply PIIx to the DD+, I guess he can't do that. After all PII/x/z is just a matrix you can apply over 2, 3, 4....discrete channels.

BTW, vudu is over rated. Netflix rentals rule the roost for quality and this is a site here that takes quality over dumbed down HD right???

After testing out Vudu for a few weeks, I have to agree. Netflix also definitely beats Vudu for price.

Can someone help with this? Why is the LG 390 telling me the it cannot play this file? Others on this forum say they're able to play their recorded Media Center shows on the LG 390?

Can anyone verify that you can play music files? I can find all of my files, and when I select a song, the player starts but before the song plays I get an error that says: "There must be network congestion." Pictures play fine and so do videos. Just not songs. I wonder if I need more bandwidth. I am connected wirelessly to the network and I get a warning to that effect when I open the My Media from the Home Screen.

Viventis - did you resolve your issue with playing audio files? I am experiencing the same problem (all other media files play fine, also running Windows 7). I am on a wired connection. I definitely do not think it is a network congestion issue. I have no problems playing audio streamed from the same Windows 7 PC on other Windows 7 clients in the house as well (both wired and wirelessly).

Streaming audio from Media Player 11 in XP Pro works fine...

Did LG fixed the lipsync glitch in the 390?

Thanks to those who responded: I'm hoping a few more people will try this and post the results. Thanks ...

Also wondering about that. If anyone who noticed the problem before can retest, it would be appreciated. If its fixed I'd like to give the 390 another shot.

Is this player firmware upgradeable via USB or DVD, or do I have to have the unit connected to the internet for online updates? I'm thinking of getting the BD360 from Costco Canada but it's going to be in an upstairs room far from my router

Hopefully quick question, the manual is not so clear as it relates to the on screen controls. I'm using the HDMI to the TV and the analog outs from the 390 to my AVR [no issues there] but I'm confused about which setting to use, it refers to audio digal out but never analog out on the 390. for the output .

Which do I choose to give me the use of analog outs?

[PCM Stereo]
[PCM Multi-Ch] (HDMI only)
[DTS Re-Encode]
[Primary Pass-Thru]

I'm setting out to rip a set of christmas movies in prep for the upcoming season and am wondering what the recommended settings are to get the best picture out of my LG390 when streaming from my server?

I'd be using Handbrake, so what is the best output format and bitrate settings to keep the highest quality?

I am experiencing the same message when trying to play audio files when running Windows 7 to my 390. Looks like a software update is needed
