BD370/390 LG Blu-ray player Master/Owners thread - Page 120

Anyone care to share how loud this player is while watching a movie? I was planning on picking one up today since I've had it with my WAY too loud PS3. A search revealed that it's "quieter" than the PS3, but does that means it's completely inaudible while turned on? Thanks.

It's the quietest BD player I've ever owned(or HD DVD). any noise is certainly not any issue since it's one of my quietest devices.

Thanks. That's pretty much all I needed to hear. I'd have to imagine that my cable box will be louder, since I can easily hear it from the listening position. The PS3, while once fairly quite, now sounds like it's ready to take off after 30 minutes of viewing. Could be coincedence, but it didn't start until one of the last updates for it. I'm sure I'll like the LG. I have no complaints about the PS3 except for the noise.

Is there a way to copy a file from my PC to a USB storage device attached to my BD390?

I thought there was a way to do this but I couldn't figure it out.

I tried to find my BD390 on the network from my PC but didn't see it.

Sure, detach your device from 390 -> attach to the computer -> copy data -> detach from the computer -> attach to the 390.
Done.

what kind of a movie are you putting on you bd-r? have you tried a direct copy from the original bd movie like terminator, using dvd fab?

Thank you Cpt. Obvious.

Those extra steps can take a couple of minutes especially if your storage device has an AC adapter that needs to be unplugged/plugged as well in some cases.

You can't copy stuff through the 390 (although that would be cool!). You'd have to convert your drive to a NAS device using something like THIS.

Only 100mbs though.

It's a neat little device, but for such price something like THIS would be better: no second power supply, no dongle, extra functionality.

Finally, you'll have some exercise for the day, it's healthy.

I guess in couple years we will have an ability just to think that we need to copy some file at home while sitting at work. Back at home - done!!!

I put a couple of BD movies converted to MKVs on the disc and one movie in VOB format in a folder on the disc. Burned the disc as a data disc but the 390 does not recognize it, I receive the 'Disk Check' error and then the drawer opens . In the Oppo BD 83 the disc plays just fine. It shows up as a data disk and I can select either one of the MKV files and both play (with DTS audio, subtitles and FF/RW). I can open the folder with the vob files, select the video_ts.ifo file and play the movie (with FF/RW, the ability to select subtitles and different audio streams). The disk also plays in my computer. On my Momitsu all region BD player the disk is recognized and I have the option to select "Video" or "Music/Pictures" but it does not recognize the MKV files and the folder with the vobs does not show up.... MKV is not a supported format on the Momitsu but at least it recognizes the disk.

The 390 is lacking in many areas when compared to the Oppo. As I stated before the more I play with the 390 the more I see that the only thing the 390 really has going for it is the Net streaming, Vudu, Netflix, etc. Improvements need to be made in the playback of avi files, mkv files, vob files, etc.

Don't forgot the OPPO has zero support for local network streaming.

I didn't forget, that's why I said: "As I stated before the more I play with the 390 the more I see that the only thing the 390 really has going for it is the Net streaming, Vudu, Netflix, etc. Improvements need to be made in the playback of avi files, mkv files, vob files, etc."

But also keep in mind the last part of what I said "Improvements need to be made in the playback of avi files, mkv files, vob files, etc."

What good is streaming if you have to re-encode your MKV files to get them to play properly, or you can not FF/RW vob or MKV, or subtitles do not show up properly, etc. etc.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a streaming device that doesn't have issues... based on some (most) people's wants. Nothing but a can of worms which often squirm differently with each firmware release. I guess if there was any legal content (to any degree) manufacturers might take it serious and feel there is a real market to address.

I'm coming from a PS3 and all I gotta say is I LOVE this player! HD Netflix, VUDU HDX Wireless N and oh did I mention it's super quiet??? You will enjoy!!

So I picked up one of these bad boys last week. Haven't gotten the chance to setup the wireless access to Netflix, Youtube, and etc since I've been busy watching blus. Haven't done any firmware updates either. But one problem I had with some of the movies were that everytime I pause, rewind, or fast forward, when it starts playing normally, the TV screen will flash green for one second and loss of audio for 2-3 sec. So if I update to the latest firmware, will that solve the problem?

Also, my internet connection speed is 3Mbps, is that too slow for streaming HD Netflix?

For those interested, I reviewed the 390 in this months issue of Home Theater and you can also find the review on Home Theater's website. I personally liked the player a lot.

Netflix says 4 Mbps, which means you need at least 5Mbps nominal.

I have the same problem with MKV files and DTS. Lot's of skipping audio.

Mine is virtually silent when running.

That's what PC streaming is for- no reason to copy to the USB storage (as long as your PC is on at the time, obviously.)
The BD390 works just fine w/ my AcomData 2.5" USB-powered drive; no need for AC adapters, has eSATA also for super-fast copies from my PC, etc...

I wouldn't recommend keeping external drives powered 24x7, though, just in case you were planning that, unless you have very good cooling (eg, active fan).
Nearly all externals will just cook or fail if you leave them running too long.
Small USB 2.5" pocket drives tend to be OK just from low power/small size & heat; full 3.5" 7200rpm drives would cook, although maybe a WD green drive might be ok.

Any idea as to what is included in the latest firmware update? I haven't seen anything here or elsewhere online...

Hello all,

I have asked this twice on the BD-390 forum thread but no one has given advice yet. I purchased my BD-390 in the begining of September. When I hooked it up it had one available update. It downloaded the update and then installed it, in a very short amount of time.

The 2nd update to me(newest one out) will not install, it freezes. It tell me theres an update available. I download and then it begins to install. The 'progress' bar will show movement for the first 3-4 seconds then freeze. No matter how long I leave it, it will not install the download it recieved.

Has anyone had this problem, I'am afraid to stop it in mid install and ruin my player. How long does this update take to install? Any advice?

Thanks
