Ok, I haven't converted them but why would you only to watch the show once and then delete it?

OH, yes. I did a lot of research for a few weeks, though the timing or place seem to have been wrong.

At the time it seemed that you could change region with firmware hack, but you had to apply that BEFORE upgrading to a newer LG firmware. After that upgrade you were not allowed to change region.

But it was not clear that ALL units sold in the USA seem to have been recently upgraded to that firmware. That information was not available.

Second, I was mostly getting information here, where that problem is minor because most people live in the USA and do not have such region problems.

Why would I kid about that? I did put a warning in the Amazon LG390 page.

And what law are you talking about? You mean the stupid region thing? This time I ask: are you kidding?

I need to use my twenty five Terabytes of Network storage for something.

I archive a bunch of HD shows and movies. Although Not as many as I did in the early 2000's.

A file is a file. That sentence does not seem to be true on the BD390.

The player does not seem to read MKV files in the same way if they are on a DVD or if they are on an USB pen-drive.

Some MKV files I prefer to burn on a DVD, single or dual layer, to watch some other times. Some I prefer to watch from the USB memory stick.

What I have had, at least on two cases, is that when reading the DVD the LG won't see the MKV's subtitles. The same file you put on a memory stick and subtitles show perfectly.

Can anyone tell me why is that and what I can do to correct that?

Purchased a BD390 a few weeks ago. Picture quality is good but I would not recommend this player for a few reasons. There is, as mentioned on this thread, a lip sync issue with this unit. Using the coax digital out into a receiver there is a slight out of sync video-audio problem that to me is quite annoying. When using the HDMI input directly into the TV is is really noticeable. I have tried all audio settings and there is no difference. To prove that this is an issue with this unit I hooked up a Sony PS3 to the same TV and receiver. No lip sync problem. Additionally the WIFI connection is somewhat inconsistent. It is odd that a player is featured with this capability but at the same time the manufacturer advises against it. Contacting LG support was useless. They responded once and asked for audio settings. I've replied back twice and they do not respond. This is a May build with the latest firmware available. Potential buyers beware!

The 390/370 is good for the Netflix/Vudu video viewing but not especially for the regular viewing of BD/DVD movies. I'm not happy that it will not read regular BD's burned using common video burning software. It did not read a BD that both my Panasonic and Samsung players read without problems. Another thing I like is that it's very fast.

I'm using the 2 ch stereo output from the BD390.

That goes into my analog receiver which then goes to my stereo speakers.

I noticed that the quality of the sound from the stereo output is really bad - music sounds bad, movies sound bad, everything sounds bad. I can't hear dialogue easily in movies and music sounds flat.

I have another DVD player (Pioneer DV-410V-K) and it sounds great with my same receiver and speakers - so it's not my audio equipment.

Receiver is Sony STR-DH100.
Speakers are Polk Audio Tsi100.

I'm considering eBaying my BD390 because of poor quality sound.

Dumb question guys.. I just got the LG BD370 this morning. I was able to attach at WD 250gb USB drive and navigate it. But before I navigate it I have to select between pictures and video before hand - the Movie option is blurred out. Also, I can't seem to find all my AVI Movie files on the USB drive.

You guys seem to be doing this .. What's the trick?

Thanks!

Is there a way to connect the 370 to the internet without using a router (its not close)? I do have a PC nearby with wireless internet on it, but have no idea how to use it to connect.

You need to go into setup, then audio, select PCM stereo for both HDMI and SPDIF output, 192khz, and Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) off.

That should fix your problem.

You need a wireless bridge/game adapter.

Actually it was having DRC off that made dialogue hard to understand in movies. I turned it on and now I can actually hear the dialogue without being deafened by the other sounds.

It's unclear if DRC effects stereo music from a normal audio CD or MP3 if you're using the stereo outputs (2 ch). I would say it probably does not but I could be wrong here.

I have to do more qualitative tests with music but from what I heard, there's something a little off with the BD390 (using stereo output).

BTW, I've set the speakers to 2.1 sound with sub-woofer disabled. The L/R speaker setup are set to the "Large" setting.

Is anyone else using the stereo outputs?

If DRC works with music then yes it will affect the sound. I don't know if that setting has any effect with an audio cd.

DRC on can help with dialogue. The other settings should only effect the HDMI and SPDIF output but I am not sure if they have any effect on the analog outputs. I imagine they don't. I have a 370 so maybe some 390 owners here will be able to help you more.

I've searched the form and perhaps I've missed a post on the topic...but has anyone found a way/hack to play .mov files directly--either via the usb port or via Nero or some other media server? I've tried Nero, Tversity and Twonky, yet I can't get my .mov files to play correctly. I see video but no audio.

I just picked up the LG 370, and perhaps someone can help. When playing standard DVDs, my old RCA player is producing better quality. It could be a missed setting. I am running over HDMI, with the LG set for 1080p. I get tons of jaggies on the edges of faces. When I drop the resolution down to 480p, it just about clears up.
Am I missing a setting, or does everyone change the resolution down when playing standard dvds?

They don't "advise against it"....they recommend wired for better streaming. That's just common sense. And FWIW, when I used wireless, it streamed just fine.

Okay, new problem for me tonight. I fired up my LG 390 and went to "My Media". I am now sitting at a blank screen (well, the blue dot graphic with "LG" on it is there, but no servers are coming up.

I tried unplugging it, to no avail - it stil just shows a blank screen. So I can assume some machine is confusing it, but how in the hell do I know which one? Anyone have this happen before?

Any idea how to do this for Timewarner? HDX only gets 1 bar and often pauses to 'load'. I had to switch to HD

The lip sync problem with avi's is starting to be really annoying!

Anyone have a solution?

In case anyone was wondering, VUDU has a .99 Cent Movie of the day. I love that they do this because when you purchase the movie of the day you have up to 30 days to start the movie, so even if you don't have to watch it right away you still get it for a steal! I've watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, Master and Commander and The Matrix!
If you haven't tried VUDU yet, TRY IT! It's a great service, and was one of the major reasons I got the BD390!

Look in your router to see what DNS server IP addresses it gets from TW. Input those into the BD390 network settings to see if that helps.

Connect an Ethernet cable from the 370 to the port on your PC, then go into Network Connections (where you can view the PC's network adapters). While holding down the CTRL button highlight the connection for the PC's Ethernet card AND the wireless. Right click and select 'Bridge Connections'. That should do the trick. The 370 will essentially be using your PC's connection to the Interweb.

If you follow VUDUFANS in twitter they publish the 99 cent movie there and also on their Facebook site.

I do the same thing. I'll rent and watch it later. I watched Apollo 13 this weekend and I rented that about 3 weeks ago for 99 cents....
