I got the slow connection message last night but I accepted and went on. Later in the movie I got another message that the connection was now better and it was re-buffering for the new speed. Again I accepted and went on and all was OK. This is the first time I have ever seen the "slow connection" message.

I don't think the 370 includes Vudu. I am content with Netflix for now, and it is certainly cheaper. I admit it, I'm a cheapskate.

I've seen the pulldown-type shudder even on my HD Tivo, for some programs- all in SD, not HD- and I recall seeing something on netflix's blog that they DO do some kind of pulldown voodoo, which apparently doesn't work that well- so, it may be netflix, NOT the players.

Well, what I see is that about every second or so, it seems like it shows the same frame 2 or 3x. And it seems to happen on all material through the whole movie. I have gotten the message that your "connection speed has changed" and it still does it. The picture does not seem to break up at all, just pause, then continue - and this is on HD content and SD. Could it be an issue with my 2 dlink switches? Or something with ATT Uverse (12meg)? My computer seems to stream fine, even over wireless.

aaronwt: thanks for the message. I was hoping that it was the case and, yes, it would be nice to just have the device output netflix at its native resolution.

This happened to me last night and supposedly my internet speed was ok, but not according to the message I received from netflix. Then suddenly it cleared up. I just got the 390 a few weeks ago... what is this "FF/Rew trick"?

I've only had the 370 connected for about 2 weeks now, but am thrilled with Netflix streaming. I haven't even seen a BR disk yet. While registering on the LG site, I came across the on line specs for the 370, which says it will do Vudu. New feature coming to the 370, or just a mistake on the site?

I searched the forum and couldn't find my situation addressed.

I just installed the 390 thru the Denon with a high quality HDMI cable. If I set the resolution to 1080p/24 or Auto, I can play a blu-ray disc at 1080p. Same goes for Vudu HDX streams. However, if I insert a standard DVD, I get no picture and only spurts of sound.

If I manually change the resolution on the 390 to 1080i, standard DVDs play fine. However, to see bly-ray at full resolution, I need to manually to change back to 1080p.

Is this normal behavior for this player? Or, is my player defective or setup incorrectly? I would think that an Auto setting would play all discs at the appropriate resolution.

All help would be appreciated.

Thanks! Chris

The 390 does not stutter when streaming Netflix because it buffers so much in advance. I was changing the location of my router to get a slightly better wireless connection. I had forgotten to turn of a Netflix movie before doing so. The movie continued to play for several minutes after I unplugged the router. You do get the pause when there is a quality change, howeverf.

I've been burned with their typos at least twice. If you look at the same page below under Audio/Video Inputs $ Outputs there is a line

Audio Discrete 7.1 Channel Out 1

which we know is not true and is not coming.
Also, they have Widgets for both 370 and 390 and I never seen it anywhere. And they haver a disclaimer, you know, not being responsible for anything.

Hi:

I have been looking at both LG-BD390 and Sony BDP-N460. Both of them are very comparable. LG has better connectivity and the player has been out for a while.

My question for you are:
1. Did you consider Sony BPD-N460 when you bought LG 390? If you were buying today would you still buy LG 390.
2. Why did you choose LG 390 over Sony?

I love the features of LG but nearly 20% of the reviews on Amazon for LG 390 had quality issues like lip sync, hardware failure and other quality issues.
Reviews of the sony on amazon were a littel better.

Let me know what you think and I will pull the trigger on one of these this weekend.

Thanks

I have a 370 myself (love it by the way) but I'm looking for a 390 for someone else, but I'm coming up short on finding them.

I can find it for $280 at a few Best Buy stores (not available online), and Fry's has it for $349. That's it. It's sold-out everywhere else. Is there a new model coming out soon or are people just buying the hell out of it?

Edit: LOL...Just as I finished typing this it pops up on amazon for $299.

Edit 2: Also just read the deals thread and found out it's $249 at Fry's in-store.

Still odd that it's in such short supply. O_o

Well, it was $260 Black Weekend at a number of places and Blu-Ray was a big hit this year, so I assume it's just a temporary shortage. I'm sure there are new models in the works, but I haven't read of any impending release.

Download and install all to a USB flash drive.

The player will know which one to use.

From the number of reports, this has to be netflix network issue. I got a survey email from them asking me about the picture quality of an instant play last week. I have no issues with VUDU loading at their highest HDX quality stream. I don't think this is a problem with the BD390.

The "trick" is to accept the netflix low speed connection prompt, let it load and start playing, then hit "stop", start playing again and it will reload, usually at HD quality.

I have to say that I have been watching netflix almost nonstop since I got the BD390. I love this feature. I broke my ankle two weeks ago and have been consuming HD instant plays of LOST seasons 1-5. Thank goodness I never I watched them during the regular prime time airing. I am on the 4th episode of season 4 right now.

I will have watched almost $250 worth of BDs for $10.99. I am sure the PQ is better with the physical media, but it looks pretty darn good on the netflix stream through the BD390 too. Not having to get up and change discs is a big plus given my limited mobility right now.

This seems to be unfortunately normal for the 370 if you're streaming from netflix and output is at 1080p (24/60 doesn't matter). I haven't seen this stuttering after I switched down to 720p, and I don't recall seeing it when I was set on 1080i before I got an HDMI cable.

I've also started to see the 'your connection is slow' messages again yesterday, but they had been gone for a while

Try ABC Wharehouse if you have one near you. They offered me the BD390 for $245 without any haggling. I'm sure you can get it lower than that if you work the salesman. Keep in mind that ABC was selling the BD390 for $200 on Black Friday, a few weeks ago. Too bad I wasn't looking for one then.

And yes, they do appear to be in short supply.

I've not been able to connect to Vudu since I downloaded the update last week. I receive a msg stating their "network is very busy"
Has anyone else had this problem? I've been on hold now for 32 minutes with Vudu, waiting for an answer.
I guess their call center is "very busy" too.

No problem streaming VUDU HDX here.

Ok my eyes are bleeding from reading and I cannot find out how to make my LG370 output 24hz!!! Yes I have it selected in the menu ;-)

My LG370 is connected to my Harman/Kardon AVR254 receiver via a good HDMI cable from Monoprice. My AVR254 is then connected to my Optoma HD20 projector using another good quality HDMI cable from Monoprice. And yes the HD20 does display 24hz.

However, whenever I play a Blu-ray my AVR254 reports the input source is 1080p/60hz. Of course it passes this same signal on to my projector. The AVR254 is not doing any processing of the signal. I have the processor turned off. Doesn't matter anyways since the signal it receives from the LG370 is only 60hz.

I am at the end of my rope. And I have been reading through the threads on my LG370, my AVR254 and the HD20. It seems as though the LG370 is the problem but I am not exactly sure.

Here's a big question.... does it matter which device I turn on FIRST? Maybe the HD20 and the AVR254 should be up and running before I turn on the LG370? Not sure if that makes a difference?

Please help me! :-(

I haven't tried using the 7.1 analog outputs but if the 2 ch analog output is crap why would the 7.1 analog output be better?

That said, I still recommend going with the HDMI approach.

I've had my BD390 for a couple of months now, and it's great, but one annoying issue has been dragging me down. When I un-pause a film, the video resumes immediately, but the audio lags behind by a couple of seconds. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it? I'm planning to try using a different HDMI cable, and maybe even component cables to see if it makes any difference. If that doesn't work, has anyone had good experience getting a replacement unit on warranty? I'm past the return window for the retailer I bought it from unfortunately.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is just the way the player is. Most BD players do this to a degree. Although some, like my Panny BD35, resumes the audio almost instantly.
The delay in resuming the audio is one of the things I didn't like about the BD390. But it had too many positive things that outweighed that little audio problem audio. Especially since I don't pause the movies too often.
You can try to turn on the AVR and HD20 first, to see if that make any difference.
For 24HZ to work, BD370 will first check if the monitor supports 24hz, then check if the disc/media is 24P. Any of the two fails, it will run at 60hz.

The 390 has a 24Hz and a 60Hz option. Could someone explain the difference?
So the bottom line is the BD370 can't play xvid or mkv files without lip sync issues? I've been cross shopping the Samsungs and Insignias but boy do those two have some lemons and pissed off buyers. The LG seems to get the win on quality but playing mkv and xvid's is a must. Thanks for any feedback you guys can provide.

Have a BD390, and I see my media server in the list, but it won't let me select the server to drill down to any content or folders at all. If I push the select buton on the remote to select the server, it just does nothing. The device is receiving the command from the remote, because I saw the red light blink indicating the IR was received.

I have had the player for several months, and although I have not watched any media from my PC, I used to be able to at least select the server and see the directories.

Any ideas?
does 370 and 390 support mkv and dts downmix?
All morning I have been able to watch anything on netflix at a decent quality -- it's telling me my internet connection is slow. That's funny given all the other devices seem to have no problem at all. I tried rebooting, but it's still complaining.

Anyone else seeing issues with netflix this AM? Vudu has no problem at all.
Now and then I have had some problems when the BD390 reads a file off a disc, not seeing the subtitles, and then playing same file on pen drive and seeing them.

So I got an external USB DVD drive, an LG laptop type, and plugged that into the USB input. The problem is I can't get the BD390 to recognize that source and it doesn't seem to see the player.

I did this following some advice I had seen ab out going in with USB powered units, and the BD390 seemed to provide the power off its USB socket. It does blink the LED and seems to work, but I am not sure if the hand-shaking is happening.

Has anyone tried that with an external USB device, particularly DVD drives? What type did you use that did work?
