Thanks - anyone know what the Black Level adjustment does in the Picture adjustment menu. Option seems to be on or off.

Will my BD360(370) do Netflix???

Also, one annoying thing how come when the unit powers off it loses all its memory, like markers or resuming points in AVIs?

I also fund a bug with it playing avis through component, I must admit that I am just using cheap RCA YWR for component though. It seems that it only plays Blurays and proper DVDs through component but not AVIs or Mpeg etc, although it has no problem doing this through HDMI.

Hey - Anyone know if they implemented CinemaNow on these players?

EDIT: Never mind - the more I look at cinema now, the more it seems that they have little or no selection....

Not to mention their terrible customer service. It is owned by Roxio, need I say more?

I'm pretty pleased with the bd390 so far. I think I got the last one BB ( in Pennsylvania)is going to see till the replacement unit rolls out in February. Did have a small problem with my Windows 7 machine not being seen on the network by the 390 - had to install the Nero MediaHome 4 Essentials software on the 7 box. Plays just about anything I throw at it over the network except WMV files. VUDU looks great in 720p, I'm on 3mb DSL so I'm bandwidth challenged - it's quite possible I may never leave the living room again...lol I have yet to watch a blu-ray disc on this...I had a Panasonic BD60. but returned it for the LG. Could not beat the feature set and the fairly reasonable price of 259....

Hello,

First this forum is great and thanks to all who post help!

I own the BD390. When playing BRD many times during most movies voices (center channel) are very garbled. This does not happen all the time during a movie, but periodically. Some movies more, some less. When it does happen I can rewind, play it again and it is the same.

When I play non-BDs this is NEVER an issue. I assume it must be the BR player or the receiver.

My receiver is about 8 or 9 years old and is: Sony STR-DA50ES

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I tested my new BD390 using the Calibration DVD GetGray. It has a lipsync test - and at least running from this DVD it looks like video/audio are in sync. I am running the latest firmware.

I did think I saw some lipsync issues on the District 9 Blue-Ray - but it could have been the source. I'll check on some other Blue-Ray

One more question.

On my old DVD player (Zenith 318) had an option in settings to allow DVDs to skip straight to the movie - by-passing the trailers at the start of the DVD. Does the BD390 have a similar option. I had forgotten the studios filled the start of these discs with a lot of junk that I have no interest in watching. I think the 318 did it by looking for the first large VOB to start playing.

(318 has now been moved to a Samsung LCD - it still plays great and still upscales over component....)

I have the BD360 which I got today. I love it because it will play USB files. However, youtube is working sketchy on it. I downloaded the latest firmware and it was working fine for a bit but now I notice some clips will play for a bit and then say THE REQUEST CANNOT BE PROCESSED. I have the cable plugged into wireless adapters. Like I said it worked for a bit with no problem then it got a little weird. Any advice????

I've seen some threads for pink screen but not including a lack of audio, also.

I just set up a new BD-390 and connected it directly to the HDMI on the JVC HD-56G786 TV which can view 1080i resolution. I set up the 390 for 1080i also. About half the time, a blu ray disc will start up okay and play allright. About the other half, the screen will get a pink hue to it and the audio will disappear but the video continues to play on (with the pink hue). A lot of times I will finish watching the movie and then try to watch some of the special add-ons and as it is switching over to those segments, the pink hue and lack of audio suddenly appear. I go to the BD-390 setup and switch resolutions and then switch back (1080i) and the picture and audio clear up, but when I navigate to the segment I want to watch, it will go pink again. After going through this several times, I give up and shut everything down. Sometimes the trailer unk at the beginning of the disc is fine but when you start the film it goes pink.

Any ideas as to what is going on? Since it works sometimes and doesn't others, I don't know where to start. TV or BD-390? It just seems random.

Anyone have any issues with upscaling on the 370?

I am not sure if its my player, my TV, or my media but when I watch my DVDs I notice a flickering of the backlight or at least brightness levels throughout the video.

Does it support transport stream (.tp and .ts) files? If it can handle the files captured by my MyHD card, then I'd probably try to track one down. There are only a handful left in Ohio.

I've had my BD370 for several months now hooked up directly to my 52LG70. I've always had the Video set to 1080p/24 and everything was fine during Netflix playback. For Chritsmas I got a Sony HT-SS360 HTIB so I now have the BD370 going to it via HDMI then to the LG70. Now I have issues playing back HD content from Netflix (Netflix SD and BD/DVD is fine). I've noticed watching Lost and 30 Rock that the picture and audio periodically drop-out (black screen/no audio), it seems to be possibly releated to streaming interruptions/glitches but I'm not positive. The issue is intermittent and I've actually had episodes that playback fine. One way to fix it is switch the BD370's video to 1080p/60Hz. I'd like to know if either the BD370 or the SS360 are defective or if this is just a Netflix issue. Has anyone else seen this symptom on Netflix HD streaming with this or other equipment? I'd like to not have to switch video to 60Hz every time I want to watch Netflix. Does anyone think this could be an HDMI cable issue? I'm using brand new cables from Monoprice.

Thanks,

I have been streaming with both the BD370 and Xbox 360. After many movies and cross testing, the streaming winner between these two devices is the Xbox 360.

I got an Xbox 360 from Walmart on sale in early November for $100. I had to test some hard disc upgrades on my own system before subjecting my son's system to the same upgrade. In doing so, I needed to join Xbox Live and make sure everything was okay. I did a 3 month subscription and started testing out the Netflix streaming.

I stream movies with the BD370. Whenever I get a movie or period where I can't seem to get a good connection (i.e. the film is slightly jumpy, if you know what I mean), then I would try with the Xbox 360. In every single case, I was able to get a smooth picture via Xbox where I wasn't able to get one with the BD370.

Previously, I though this stutter or jumpy pic was do to the network. It probably is, but the Xbox 360 can definitely handle it better than the BD370.

Hi Jim:

I had no problem playing .ts files from dvd content that was backed up on a network drive though the 390.

I have been unable to stream MP3s from my computer using the BD390. I sent an email to LG requesting info and the following is what I received:

Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Your e-mail has been received.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

I absolutely understand your concern, and will gladly help you with it.

We sincerely appreciate your feedback.

Quality is a top priority at LG we continuously strive to improve our products and our service based on the requests of our valued customers. We are always happy to assist our customers in any way possible.

You may have to consider how many files or the weight of these because if they are too heavy the unit will only display the lightest files that can pull out from your computer files. Please refer to page 42 from the Owner's Manual for BD 390, which states:

MP3/WMA audio file requirement (USB/DISC)
File extensions: .mp3, .wma

Sampling frequency: within 8-48 kHz (WMA), within 11-48 kHz (MP3) (YOU MAY HAVE TO ADJUST THE SETTINGS ON PLAYER)

Bit rate: within 8-320 kbps (WMA, MP3)

Maximum Files/Folder: Less than 2000 (total number of files and folders)

Notes on MP3/WMA file
Depending on the size and number of the MP3/WMA files, it may take several minutes to read the contents of the media.
This unit cannot support the ID3 Tag embedded in the MP3 file.

I hope this helps others who have the same problem.

Just installed and updated my BD390. I am seeing the Public folder of my Vista SP2 PC, and have successfully played MP3 files and viewed JPG files without installing the Nero Media Home Software. Just what does that software do that Windows file sharing does not?

So far when I have tried to play video, either AVI or MPG, I get some sort of a Codec Error. Does the Nero software encode these files to compatible codecs on the fly when playing?

Can TV programs recorded with Media Center be played/streamed to the BD390? If not, how can convert them so they can?

Additional Comments:
I have watched Netflix video in the family room by hooking my laptop up to the TV, I thought this unit would make the process as easy as watching TV. When I tried to activate the device, Netflix tells me I have to have an unlimited plan! What a disappointment, why can I not just watch my allowed time like I can with a computer? Obviously this is a Netflix issue, but just thought I would mention it. Maybe everyone else who cares already has a unlimited plan?

YouTube seems to work really well, although the videos are just as stupid and boring as they are on the computer! (Just making a joke, I realize I am probably in the minority with that opinion

Also, you can share your media files without giving explicit privileges to anyone.

Thanks for the response although it did not actually tell me what the Nero software Does.

I noticed that for some reason not every JPG is displayed, quite a number of them appear as an icon of a photo with a "?". Have not found a pattern to why, anyone have any ideas?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how often updates are released for the BD370. I've been having lip sync problems (or maybe I'm just being crazy), running BD.8.16.693.A . Tried downgrading, didn't help, so maybe it is just me.

But yeah. Every week? Month?

Thanks!

I had the same reaction as you. But when I checked with Netflix I learned that I could convert from my two at a time/four per month plan to a one at a time/unlimited per month and the unlimited plan was about $3 cheaper per month. Worked for me.

I have a Windows Home Server running on my network. Up to now I have only used it for doing automated backups of my other network PCs. Now that I have a BD390 I would like to be able to store videos I have created on WHS and stream them to the BD390.

I thought all I had to do is install a DLNA server like TVersity on WHS and use it through the BD390 to view my videos. My typical HD video is about 5 minutes long and is encoded to .mp4. With TVersity installed, I can play my videos but they are very choppy. If I pause the player for a few minutes I can then play the video at full speed for a minute or so before it again stops.

Is there a way to get a higher quality stream from my WHS server to the BD390? Specific questions:

1. I am running 802.11g showing 54 Mbps speed. The videos I am playing are encoded at 8 Mbps. Will going to 802.11n likely let me stream these videos from the WHS?

2. Should I be using mkv instead of mp4 encoding for streaming these videos?

3. Is it even necessary to use TVersity for streaming to BD390?

4. Any other suggestions?

I just got a BD370 because I thought I'd read it played divx & matroska. Well, after many hours researching and experimenting, I believe I've come to the conclusion that if US firmware is installed, divx/mkv won't play, and it won't allow installation of canadian or uk firmware.

Has anyone found a solution or workaround for this? Besides returning the thing and ordering one from Canada, which is what appears to be the only solution...

Does anyone know if the Mexican version supports mkv/divx? (I ask because I'm closer to Mexico than Canada and could just go buy it there if that is confirmed to work...)

I purchased the BD390 and hardwired it to my home network. I can play some video and most audio files from my PC. After much pain, I've determined that some of my mpeg2 video files are LPCM audio and some mpeg audio. The BD390 will not play those formatted with LPCM audio, get message "Not supported Audio Codecs" . Those with mpeg audio in the mpeg2 video file work fine.

Any thoughts, or is there an easy way to change the audio type in my mpeg files? I've sent email to LG, but don't have high hopes.

Thanks

p.s. - I should mention that I have a laptop that sees the wireless N network just fine and does connect to it.

The BD390 only does 2.4Ghz N band, not 5GHz.
Your router should be dual-band so try setting the N mode to use 2.4Ghz if possible.

Search the thread for some others eg using DLink routers, think they had to do some settings in the router to get it to work...
no issues w/ wired on my Belkin router.

Sounds like you are having wireless or bandwidth streaming problems (from the stutter, then better temporarily after pause.)
I'd suspect the wireless G; N should help, but you might want to try wired just to confirm. It might be the WHS not being able to keep up, also, by itself or in combination w/ the wireless.

MKV doesn't matter vs mp4. Same encoding (and bitrate) internally, just different (extra) wrapper.

TVersity might be re-encoding the files, you'd have to check the settings etc... that might contribute to speed problem...
the BD390 w/ recent firmware should be able to play straight off CIFS (windows) shares on the WHS, no need for a DLNA server like TVersity, although it gives you a bit of organization/flexibility (eg genre, playlist, etc) vs simple directory heirarchy.
