They have a HD genre to browse, but then you can't sort by sub-genre like comedy, etc.

C'mon Netflix.

Also - is there no screensaver when you pause a Netflix movie?

Thanks,

Has anyone done a firmware upgrade using a USB Flash Drive, any issues to know in advance?

No issues that I've come across. You just turn the unit on, plug in the drive and the BD390 takes it from there.

Thanks for the heads up.

Nope. Of course, remember to unzip the ROM file first :-)
You can even revert back to previous versions, so recommend to download & keep them around, in case something goes goofy w/ the latest ones.

On my previous BD player (Pioneer), you couldn't revert to the previous firmware update, that's great news.

I just connected a new 390, connected wireless (no problems), and did the firmware upgrade it suggested.

After the (required) reboot, and one time since then (in about 8 or 10 total starts) I got a full green screen on video, could not get any other video signal (HDMI to a DVDO Edge). Front panel display was responsive. The first time I had no disc in, the second time I did and audio was fine (it restarted the disc (stddef DVD) where it left off).

Both times a reboot solved it. So I found this thread to see if it was a known issue, or if I seem to have a one-off defect, hopefully fixed by replacing the unit.

I was wondering if you were able to solve your problem, or if you had any updates on the situation. Have you tried reflashing?

Have been reading this thread for a few hours now and thought I would throw my opinion in the mix and ask a question. I've been using the BD-390C for a couple months now.

Hardwired it to a DLink Switch connected to a Dlink router, hooked up the HDMI cable. Turned everything on including Two Win7 PC's and a Dlink323 NAS.
Everything started up as it should, the 390 connected itself to the network and all went fine. The 390 recognized the shared drives and folders on the PC's as well as the NAS, You Tube worked fine, for what its worth. And off course we don't get anything else in Canada, like Netflix, etc.

It has since worked very well , no problems streaming AVI's,MKV's (of any size) of course the odd DL file didn't work like it should but that is due to issue's introduced to the file. I've had very few if any of the issue's others are having?

Then tonight I share a another drive on PC1 and now when I try and access that drive get a CIPS Sign in screen asking for a PW? Tried a few but none worked. Of course I have NO idea what that's about and couldn't find an answer in this thread.
Ideas Anyone?

*PC1 Intel 920 PC running Win7
*PC2 Intel ?? Core Dual Win7 (using as a NAS)
*Several TB's of H.D's

OK - I think I get it. The speaker level options are a (crude - only three levels) form of speaker adjustment. I'll try it when I get my (5.1 analog) cables.

Install a switch.

The streaming content available does have another place to filter by HD but it's kind of hard to find. I use it all the time.

lujan - care to enlighten us on where to find the filter for streaming HD?

I think the HD genre is the only place to filter streams for HD, but you're not able to further filter by other/sub genres. Here's a link.
http://www.netflix.com/WiHD?lnkctr=hdgenre

Also, see this Netflix API forum post. It seems that the server-side API can't really do device-specific, parameterized queries without a lot of backend work. It looks like they haven't done it, yet.

I used iperf, a network peformance testing tool, to come up with 27Mbps. Your mileage will vary depending on your wiring and whether the outlets are on the same circuit. I was getting 3.5Mbps in one outlet 6ft away, just as an example.

I bought the Linksys PLTE200 kit, which can go up to 85Mbps (just like wireless specs - don't expect to get anywhere close to that). There is a newer version ("Powerline AV", I think) that will do up to 200Mbps.

First post here and I didnt see this particular issue (although apologies if I missed it somewhere).

I purchased a BD-390 a few weeks ago and have been struggling with getting the wireless video streaming to work properly. I've been on the phone with LG and with my ISP and neither have been able to help.

The problem is while I can configure the LG to access the internet (the test connection confirms I'm connected to the Internet), I am unable to connect to YouTube/NetFlix or CinemaNow. However, I can connect to Vudu and I have been able to stream a HD movie and watch trailers using Vudu, I can also connect to the other computers on my network (at least I can see their directories).

I've tried the internet connectivity with both Wired and Wireless with the same results. I have a 16Mbps cable connection from Comcast and although I do have VOIP and a few other computers on this network none of them are using any bandwidth while I've been trying to get this to work. I'm currently running Wireless G as my wireless network (I have an Linksys Wireless G Router) but when I ran a dedicated ethernet connection I had the same problem. I took a look at my router settings and they're pretty generic and frankly all my other computers can easily access YouTube and I've watched plenty of streamed videos on all of them so I don't think that's the problem. The LG is only about 30 feet away from my wireless router and I also have a range extender that is nearby too.

I'm on the verge of returning this but thought I would ask if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions before I do. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm sure the answer to this is somewhere buried in this thread, so, I apologize in advance.

Just curious if the US version of BD370 will play a MKV file (over 4gb) burned to a DVD+R...all the way through, without stopping.
I've got a brand new Insignia that handles them, but, stops at about 2gb or 50 minutes into the file, which is beyond frustrating.

Thanks!

Just got my 370, I knew that the USB port was in the front, and was really hoping the door had some space to have a small usb drive and allow the door to close, but alas. Has anyone located the place on the motherboard that the 390 has the internal memory attached? I noticed a header on the MB but didn't know what it was for. I was thinking of hacking a USB into the case either using the existing USB on the front, or better yet on a header on the motherboard.

Has anyone done this yet?

I had a similar problem with my LG60PS80 TV. I unplugged it for about 30 secs and everything worked from there. Try unplugging your BD player and then see what happens. LG probably already told you to do it but what the heck I threw this in just encase they didn't. YMMV

I would not do hack part. Instead, I would use a 12" or so USB extension cable. It should have the flexibility to allow your door to close.

Also, the specs for those formats do not allow any digital output. Any device that does support them would have to use 5.1 analog outputs. I believe it's an RIAA copy protection thing.

IOW - Even if the 390 did support them, it wouldn't be over HDMI.

I have thought about that, however the front door seems to get so close to the USB port, that you couldn't have anything sticking out and still close the door, unless you cut a piece of the door out.

One thought I had was buying or acquiring a USB plug, basically just the metal piece that fits into the slot, and wiring it up to run either back inside the case, or to a USB hub that i would cut into the side of the case. Japan does have a USB thumb drive that is as big as one of those bluetooth dongles you see now, but alas none in the USA.

That is a *major* oversite on the part of the 370 design. I have a hard disk plugged in with about 40gb of music. I don't know what they were thinking by not adding a USB port on the back, and leaving the front for temporarily plugging things in.

FYI - You only need a thumbdrive for BD-Live. Netflix/CinemaNow do not require a thumbdrive to be inserted.

I do think the buttons should be reversed with the eject button being next to the tray & the power up on the opposite side. no big deal. thanks

Yep, I don't like the design choice of the over sized face plate. It gets in the way and will be a dust collector. Poor design choice...good unit.

I'm wondering what is the optimum setup for my equipment?

I have an older receiver that does Dolby Digital and DTS (no HDMI). Also an older TV with DVI connection. Currently I'm using HDMI-to-DVI to the TV, and coax SPDIF to the receiver.

I know I can use DTS Re-encode, but it seemed like that caused a lip sync issue. I tried Pass-Through on the coax which worked okay for the movie, but when I played the commentary special feature you couldn't hear the commentary.

I'm wondering if PCM multi-channel is the best option, and can I get that with a break-out cable from the HDMI?

Thanks,
Matt

Gents,
I picked up the BD390 last week and so far so good. My question is should I upgrade to the new revision? I would not normally change it if it is working properly, but if the current revision offers additional functionality I may consider it. The only issue I have had so far is streaming an ISO of Braveheart (stuttering). The HDD containing Braveheat is plugged into my NMT, that may be part of the issue, I will be determining that as soon as my USB HDD enclosure arrives, however all of the ISOs I have played that reside on my 3.0GHZ PC have played fine.

I noticed that my music files on the network do not show up, no surprise for the FLAC files but I thought the few MP3s I have would have shown up. Do any of the firmware revisions allow for these files to be played over the network?

Thanks,
Ed

Hi guys -

I was watching PANDORUM last night (bluray) and noticed a lip-synch issue. 390 was HDMI into an Integra receiver (using passthrough setting), which was doing the decoding for TRUE HD.

Has anyone come across something like this?

Yes I am aware of the use of the drive for BD-Live. I guess my thought was to "set it and forget it" Not that I use BD-Live often, but not having to remember the thumb drive would be a bonus, it's more of a nitpick rather than a problem, but that's what hacking is sometimes, just making your life a bit more simple lol

I bought myself a 390 for Giftmas, $250 at Fry's. I'm running it through a Denon 888 and output is to a Samsung plasma. This is my first blu-ray player.

Set up could not be any easier. I'm running wifi through a linksys router, and it was a peice of cake to set up. I have a Netflix account, and I was able to stream problem free. Blu-rays are stunning, the sound is perfect with no sync issues. I am impressed!

I did have one problem...When I first open the tray to put in and play a disc, the door would open down, but the tray would only come out about an inch. It did this several times, and would not come fully out. Three days later, it works perfectly fine while installing and removing 3 more discs with no tray issues whatsoever.

Anyone encounter this problem?

Should I take it back? I would take it back in a heartbeat, but the unit isn't in stock, and damned if I want to go back to standard def!
