BD370/390 LG Blu-ray player Master/Owners thread - Page 201

This might be an old question, but it's been almost a year since I checked this thread and it seems to me the time is right to ask the experts...

Can I region unlock a BD390 bought on the US (region 1)? If so, could you please point me to the method? Or should I forget this thing forever?

Thanks in advance,

There is a region code hack for DVD (not BD) that works with region 2 players. Not sure if it also works with region 1 players:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks?dv...&Search=Search

In any case: you need to downgrade the firmware to version 80526 or lower. For doing this you still can find the old firmware versions at the US (or other) LG websites.

I'm in Canada.
I want a bru-ray disc player that will play .mkv files directly from a burnt blu-ray disk. All other features are superfluous to me.
Obviously, looking for the best cost/performance device, available in Canada.

Does the bd370 or bd390 meet my needs..??
Is this the best way to go..??

(Sorry, but reading 6000 replies is akin to reading war & peace....)

Today I received an email from Netflix. They are now available in Canada. Since the USA BD390s have Netflix in the firmware, what are the chances it will be available (soon) for Canadian BD390C's?

Thank maris but I am still confused because on the menu system for 1080p, with 24Hz or 50Hz selectable. So the unit can do 1080p/50Hz so why can't it do 576i/50Hz for composite?

Of course. The unit can do 576i/50 Hz, if the source material is PAL (or 1080p 50Hz, which is quite rare). But it cannot convert into PAL if it is not.
But you're right, the LG menu is quite confusing at this point.

Hi everyone-

I bought mine last year and it has been great. But recently, I've been burning some BD movies from my camcorder. It plays on my computer (equipped with a BD player/burner). It plays on my PS3 slim. But it won't play on the LG bd390. Can anyone tell me what I can do? I pull up the updates and the driver version is H42301. SW Version is BD.8.08.531.b.

thx

If this are .mts files renaming into .m2ts might help.

I applied the latest firmware (M03.R.694), following a notification from the player itself and now it will not sync with my Onkyo 875 processor. If I connect it directly to my TV it's fine and I can see the firmware has applied successfully. I've tried doing a factory reset on it and that didn't make any difference. I'm also fully upto date on the firmware for the processor and JVC-HD750 projector.
I've spoken to Sony and they're saying you can't apply the old firmware without taking it to a service centre!

I'm obviously not very happy about this and it's kind of ironic given that the first line in the release notes says "HDMI connectivity improvement"

Has anyone got any thoughts of how to progress without the hassle of taking it to a service centre?

Are you asking about a Sony player? This is an LG forum.
Yes, that fw is for the Sony 370. Obviously, robkirk accidentally posted in the wrong thread.

Just picked up Iron Man 2 this afternoon and every twenty or so minutes the movie freezes up. Someone else reported the same issue with a BD390, which is also my player. I wonder if its the disc or the player. Maybe a firmware update will fix this problem.
Mine is all frozen too, every 3 minutes or so the timing jumps back and the player freezes
post #6015 of 6863
Sent an email to LG customer support in regards to the problems with the Iron Man 2 disc and the BD390 player. I'm not holding my breath on this one. LG support is terrible.
Wow, I got a quick response from LG customer support:

Dear Mr. Burdett,

The lastest firmware update is the BD.8.08.532.B.
Please check and see what your latest firmware is.
I have sent information to our Tech department on a problem with the Iron Man 2 Blu-ray.
Should you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience.

Regards,

B Maroney
LG Customer

The problem is that I do have the latest firmware installed. Maybe they will fix this.

mine was about every twenty minuntes or so but it was so annoying and really hard to watch the movie having to constantly get it unfrozen and replay from the right place....

Played Iron Man 2 last night. It froze at the Paramount logo. Pressed 'Stop', restarted playing, and it worked perfectly from that point on. Never had a glitch of any sort during the movie. I'll have to check later to see what firmware I'm on, but I'm pretty sure it's the latest that the player detects by itself.

I had numerous sound blips at different points in the movie as I went surfing around. then I started to watch from the beginning. Six+ minutes in the movie froze. Started over and it played through the same point just fine, but I didn't continue much farther so I can't say if they'll be more problems. I have latest firmware. Only movie in a year with which I have had the slightest problem. I have BD 390.
I have the same problem with Iron Man 2 BD playing on my BD390. Video freezes at 6+ minutes first and again every 20 minutes or so, plus have a sound dropouts too. Disc played without a hitch on my BH200.

When I sit down to continue to watch I have freeze-ups every 20 mins to look forward to..that's great! Sent an email to LG customer service about the problem as did one of the previous posters. Hope it helps to provide an update that fixes the problem.

I have a BD390 that is connected via the analog outputs to my old 5.1 receiver. I have noticed an audio problem and searching this 196 page thread didn't yield any info about this particular issue.

The audio crackles and distorts badly on loud passages on some discs. Some discs work fine. Star Trek has this problem, and The Wolfman also had the crackling/distorting problem. I have watched a number of other BDs on it that worked fine, such as Shutter Island, Italian Job, Transporter 3, Hurt Locker, etc. At first I thought maybe the problem was with 7.1 material being converted to 5.1 but Star Trek is 5.1. Then I thought it was DTSHD but many of the ones that play OK are DTSHD. So now I am thinking maybe it is just particular discs.

If I use the digital output and let my receiver do the DD decoding, then the problem goes away. It appears to be a problem with the player's internal audio decoder. I would run it this way all the time except that my receiver doesn't have a DTS/HD decoder.

Has anyone seen this issue, and in particular, do you have a workaround?

When I get some time I will call LG and see if they can assist.

I posted about this problem a few pages back. In my case I sent the player back under warranty twice and they said they couldn't find a problem, after which my labor warranty expired.
It seemed to go away with the speakers set to small, but lately I've been noticing it, just not as loud( for example on IronMan, the sound of the suit or rockets flying causes some crackle).
I noticed it only with DTS tracks even on DVD's. Watching Pirates of the Caribbean DVD which had DTS and DD tracks, the crackle was not there when playing the DD track but was with DTS. Same thing for blu-rays, Tru-HD didn't seem to cause the problem but DTS-MA movies did. So I'm thinking it's a software/decoding glitch.
FYI, I hooked even a different set of analog cables directly to my Panasonic P50X1 and the distortion was audible there. Like others have complained, LG support is horrible and I seriously doubt the techs actually tried to replicate my complaint despite specifically requesting they do.
Besides this issue, I like the player but will likely not buy another LG product because of how they treat customers that buy their products.

Watched IronMan 2 last night, had it freeze about 10 times. It was a rental but looked new, no scratches/dust/fingerprints. The only thing I could do is hit fast forward and then play, it would then skip back to the previous chapter. After fast forwarding back to the point it froze, it would play through it fine until the next freeze up.
Does this disc play on previous firmwares and if so, does this problem exist?
My player (BD390) is freezing on all discs now. I downgraded the software to 529 but the problem still persists. This first happend with Iron Man 2 but in now does it with every disc.

Is there a better software downgrade I should use?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Gary

I also had the same Iron Man 2 freezing issues at the exact same time - starting at about 6 minutes and then almost every 10 minutes. If you hit forward, it jumps back to the last freeze point.

I tried the same disk on my LG 550 and it did not have the problem.
Same here with Iron-2 freezing up. Pain in the a** with company over to watch it on my ht system.

Thanks for clearing that confusion up. It's a bit disappointing as my CRT is not that old and has a very nice picture.

Is anyone having problems getting their player to connect to Netflix?

I have the latest updates for my BD390 ( BD.8.08.531.B) I thought maybe deactivating netflix then going in and clicking Yes, connect to netflix streaming would work. But when it goes through the 4 lights the last on ( connect to netflix wont work)
Having problem connecting to Netflix - started today also. Tried to de-activate and re-activate account, the Netflix website does not recognize the ESN number from the BD-390.
