Sorry to hear you're having troubles with Sherlock, mine is working just fine and I've got the same firmware as yours.
I have noticed that the owners of players (370/390) share similar issues and mostly with the same discs but sometimes different discs. But always it's the same issues i.e. freezing, lip syncing, drop outs.
Right now, I think the most common issue is disc not loading and coming up as disc error.
So yeah, we're about due for another F.W. upgrade, or a new brand of player
