The only resolution you should have checked is 1080P, this way the unit will up convert all other resolutions to 1080P and DVD and bluray will both play without a hitch.

Thanks...that is what i thought, but when I keep it at 1080p, if I put in a standard def movie, I get all kinds of snow and blotches and then need to go into the menu and change it to 1080i...

I disagree 100%. The 370 should only be set to 1080p24 for 1080p24 Blu-ray's. For DVD's and 1080i Blu-rays, set the output to 1080i60.

The de-interlacer in the 370 won't properly de-interlace interlaced content like DVD's and 1080i Blu-rays.

Just got ahold of a Spears & Musil calibration disk. My BD-390 played the ndisk 2 or 3 times, then started to struggle trying to recognize the disk at all whirring, ticking noises while trying to identify finally ending up with disk error message and ejecting the disk. Oppo sent me 3 more...!!! All 3 will not load. Ordered another DVD blu-ray claibration disk....it also is not recognized...disk error. All my other movie blu-rays and standard dvd's play..... I reflashed the latest firmware, did hard restarts unplugging the power for a while. Nothing works. Is this a sign that the transport is on the way out...???

Finally "upgraded" to 557.b on my BD390 as I've never had a problem with fw updates before. Directly afterwards - I can get on my network, but no internet. Didn't change anything with my router. Can't even do a wired connection. LG tech walked me through factory reset, unplugging power, holding power button for 45 seconds, still Internet:Fail.

Going to try downgrading. Thanks to the dude who posted the FWs on 4shared!!

You're welcome.

A little curious about your problem though. If what's happening is that you can get to local LAN shares but not Netflix, etc., you might have a DNS issue. Some LG's (mine for instance) didn't play nice with some router's DNS relay functions. I do run 557 and don't have a problem but I'd taken steps many versions past to bypass the DNS relay issues.

The easiest way to test for this problem would be to set the LG to fixed network parameters and not use the DHCP settings coming from your router.

Pick an IP address on your local subnet that's not being used, use your router address as the gateway address and 255.255.255.0 as the mask. I'd suggest using OpenDNS's servers as they work very well. The addresses you should use are 208.67.222.222 as primary and 208.67.220.220 as secondary.

Nothing else on your LAN setup has to change and you can leave DNS relay on on your router. The LG will just bypass it.

I truly appreciate the advice! I may have just gotten lucky, but after downgrading the FW, I was able to get internet connectivity back. At first it didn't work, but I reset the settings, ubnplugged the power, held the power button for 45 seconds, and then logged back into the router. I later ended up going back to ethernet which worked as well. So, who knows, it may not have been the FW. I will DEFINITELY keep your comments handy for future reference. I've never been that strong with networking and DNS. Thanks again.

Hi,

Is it possible to connect a NAS to a DB370?

I have a stardom NAS which got a Ethernet and USB connection.
I would like to fill it using the Ethernet network and connect it, using USB, to the DB370.
However I noticed that I need an USB cable with two female connectors.
Is the logic inside the DB smart enough to communicate with the NAS?

Or.. is there a way to let the BD370 search and connect, using ethernet, for the NAS?

Or is it possible to use f.e FTP to connect to the BD370 and look inside an connected external, not NAS, USB drive?

Thank you very much.

Hello,

I have now an external USB drive connected ( 250GB ) to my DB370, with just 100GB free.
I use a folder structure for Music, Video and Images.
But I can't go into the folders, everything in the root I can play.
If I do, I get 'BD' as message at the display and the DB370 goes off.
Also, often, I have to start the player and when done, I can turn on the USB drive.

My drive is formatted as FAT32 with Mac OSX. With an 32GB USB stick I can make folder and browse around.

Any idea?

My 390 manual tells how to do this, and so should yours. FAT 32 looks ok, and a USB stick or external drive as well.

The 370 lacks CIFS, DLNA and NFS clients. I'm not sure how that would work. Now, if you just want to use it as an external USB drive for MUSIC that might work if the USB drive is formatted with FAT32.

I also have a few issues with this player.
The NO LDR is something many like me have encountered.
I decided to look inside since it was after warranty period, and I'm not paying $100 to fix it.
Like a few others that have called LG about the NO LDR problem they told me they had never heard of it. Bullcookies. Anyway, after opening the machine i noticed a stamp on the disc tray assembly cover.
Note: No gasket, no load! with the exclamation point and all.
This to me says somewhere there was a gasket needed and was not installed.
If anyone that pops the top finds a gasket, please let me know.
I had found a thin round paper gasket that had come unglued from somewhere but not sure on what machine. Anywho, I think they had a bad shipment and chose to deal with it by denying it and hiding this from the public long enough to go away. Not sure life is good.

I have both the 390 and the 370. Love that the 390 has wireless. Is there a wifi bridge that anybody would recommend so I can connect the 370 (in my bedroom) to the internet without running a cable across my hallway? Thanks

Fast Eddie, take a look at Netgear's powerline stuff, they can deliver 200mbps over the AC electrical circuit, and turn it into a wired ethernet connection. I actually use it with my 390 because it's faster than wireless.

I use this D-Link (D-Link DAP-1522) to connect my LG player as well as my Onkyo receiver and it works great. Plus, it connects at either the 2.4 gHz or 5 gHz band. A bit of a pain to set up, but once connected it never hiccups. It is usually on sale at either Amazon or Newegg.

You mean you can play a 1080p video file wireless without any hiccups? What technology allows that?

Absolutely. I also have the DAP-1522 for that exact purpose. I use it with both the DIR-655 and DIR-825 routers and I get full BD file playback without hiccups about 97% of the time. Wireless is not perfect so there IS the occassional hiccup, but that's expected as part of the technology even though rarely happens. I don't use my BD390 anymore since I got my Oppo BDP-93. I use the DAP-1522 on 5GHz exclusively with my 825 to minimize interruptions of 2.5GHz traffic.
I'm not familiar with the DAP-1522. I own a DSL-2640B, but I rarely use it. Someone does know what are the differences between them?

My main modem/router is a Linksys WAG120N, and it does hiccup in HD with the BD390. So I use it hardwired.

Harwired the WAG120 is more reliable and problem-less than the 2640.

Pity the Oppos can't be used as media centers as the LGs.

What limitation have you seen with the Oppo as a media player? I own both an LG 390 and an Oppo 93, and my experience has been very different from yours. Namely, the Oppo can currently play ISO rips (even 3D ISO's), which the LG cannot.

Sorry, I meant that AFAIK the Oppo can't be used as network based media player, which is my main application for the LG 390.

At the time I bought mine, in 2009, the top Oppo was the 83, which also didn't play NTFS files, so I would have to split MKV files in several parts in order to play them. And I don't think it could network my PC and play files through it.

What did change on the 93?

I do not use my 93 in a network environment (my files reside on attached storage), but it can access files via DLNA. You should check out the Oppo 93 thread here on AVS, it is very informative.

As I said, at the time that I bought the LG 390, Oppo only had the BDP-83, and it was very clear that it did not play NTFS files, only FAT32, through discs or external media (USB).

But I just read the BDP-93 manual and that seems to have changed, which is a very good thing.

About streaming, the 93's manual says that through "My network" that should be possible, but it's experimental and there's no support from them. What I wonder is if you can't stream film using "My films". Can you? What type of files?

The other thing I like about the Oppo 93 is it still has 5.1 analog audio output, which the latest LGs do not carry it anymore.

It's quite likely I'd buy an Oppo if I travelled to the USA soon.
Let me put it this way, after I got my Oppo 93, my BD390 has bascially been sitting there collecting dust as a backup. The only times I've turned it on is when I found out there's a firmware update and I'm not even sure it was a good thing to update it.

I can play BDs, files/ISOs from storage and stream my media via DLNA. There's a dedicated thread on DLNA for the Oppo, so search for it so you can get all the info you need.

A second vote for Powerline. I use it for my 390, as well as my preamp, satellite receiver, and media server. Rock solid.

Yes, I can confirm that the Oppo 93 will play files from NTFS formatted drives, that's what I use. My files are ISO's and MKV's, but you can also play a myriad of other formats.

This is very good to know.

You use ISO files to play DVDs?

I use ISO files to play Blu-ray only, but DVD's can be converted to ISO's as well.

Wow, files must be huge!

Hi All,

I have the bluray connected via analog cables to my older Denon receiver (1907). Have an HDMI cable going from the bluray to the TV (panasonic 65GT30). When I play blurays surround sound works as it should. However, when I play regular DVD's I'm only getting sounds from the front left and right speakers. Has anyone ever had this issue or know a fix?

Thanks in advance!
