It sounds like she's trying to open. I will try unpluging for 20min.

If still no good contact OPPO support. They may have additional diagnostic or self-repair procedures.

Hmm, weird. Same thing's just happened to my 83. Tried a few presses of the eject button and it finally worked on the fourth attempt. I'll see how it goes but it seems strange a few reports have come through of the same issue recently, hope it's not starting to go awry

It should also be heard via analog outs but I can't confirm that. If anyone can confirm whether it happens in the BDP-80 that might be useful information.

Oppo is aware of the issue.

Has there been any fix to the TS3 sound issue? I just had it happen last night, had the machine update it's firmware, and still have the same problem. Analog outputs for me. 7.1 bad in the same places pointed out previously. 5.1 had no issues. Any new news on this?
Thanks,
Chris

btw, Oppo responded saying the upcoming 93 will be able to handle LFE redirect.

Same thing is happening to me. Started a few weeks ago. It's sporadic and at first seemed to only happen with manually pushing the Eject button (using remote always worked).

Today for the first time the remote didn't work. I found if I gently push on the tray while it tries to open, that sometimes helps. So perhaps it's a mechanical issue.

I also reverted from the latest beta firmware to the latest official, but that didn't help. If you do write OPPO, please post back what they suggest. Thx.

RE: Oppo83SE - Disc Tray

Disconnect the BDP-83 from the power source for no less then an hour. Press and hold the POWER button on the front panel for 5 seconds. Release.

Reconnect the power to the player directly to your walled power outlet, bypassing any switch or power conditioner.

Download and install the 50-0323B Firmware (http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-b...-50-0323b.aspx).

Perform a Reset Factory Defaults (Device Setup), Erase BD-Video Data (Device Setup->Persistent Storage) and disable BD-Live (Network Setup).

Press Eject several times. Does the tray not eject?

Is your player rackmounted, or is it sitting on a standard shelf?

^^^^^ great, thanks. I'll give it a try.

Just checked the firmware link and it a beta from back in March. Not knowing the date of the communication from Support, I'm wondering if that was simply the latest at the time, or if it's necessary to have that particular firmware.

I'm now back on the official firmware from May. Perhaps they're the same. For now, I'll try doing everything except reverting the firmware and see where that gets me. Thanks again.

Use the latest Official 50-0424 Firmware instead. The rest of the instructions apply.

The only cure for the Toy Story 3 issue right now is to select the 5.1 soundtrack or invest in a receiver which can take a Bit Stream Dolby Digital TrueHD or DTS-HD Master signal.

OPPO will be addressing this in a future firmware release, but we do not know when this will occur.

Weird, on the Aussie version of TS3 the issue is with the 5.1 track and the 7.1 track is perfect - Is the US issue the audio track coming un-glued (loss of dialogue and seemingly from another part of the movie) during the garbage bin scene when Woody is talking to Lotso before the garbage truck shows up?

Since I have that firmware already, do I just over-write (assuming it lets me)?

Here's my theory. The 7.1 mix uses the "alternate" location for the surrounds. Upon playback, the Oppo decoder activates "remapping" which mixes part of the surround signal into the fronts. The player neglects to protect that mix by globally attenuating the levels appropriately, so it clips.

Even if Oppo fixes the clipping issue, they cannot stop the remapping. What's wrong with delivering the soundtrack exactly as mixed? Isn't that what lossless is for? I wonder if there is a way to defeat remapping when the soundtrack is encoded??

The errors seem to relate to low frequency data, so the player is likely pulling incorrect information from the LFE channel.

Went through the procedure, following it to the letter, and it had no effect. It still seems to me to be a mechanical issue, as I can generally get the tray to open if I tap it while it's trying. After that, it will behave normally for several attempts, then lock up again. Very sporadic.

I'll email Support and see what they have to say.

I guess when there's a bug anything is possible, but it seems highly unlikely that LFE would get mixed into the main channels. When Oppo fixes it, will they give us a hint of what it was?

From what I understand, the LFE channel never gets mixed into the main channels even when downmixed. It's dropped from this move.

Depends. In some cases OPPO has directly commented on the exact cause and resolution to the errors (see SACD snaps, crackles, and pops being removed in the 50-0424 firmware) in the release notes. Other times they will just state that it has been corrected, but will not directly state the root cause of the error.

Definitely sounds mechanical in nature. I have an ole' Lite-On DVD/VHS combo unit (2005, but with hardly any use, grrr) that requires tapping on the side to open the DVD tray.

I received an RMA# from OPPO to return the unit for inspection/repairs. I'm hoping they can reproduce the problem, because, as I said, the tray sticking is sporadic.

For those who have dealt with OPPO service: my unit is 2-yrs-old, so out of warranty. I asked for an estimate, but they didn't reply with one, only telling me they'll be providing a pre-paid FED-EX sticker. Anyone have a ballpark figure for (probably) replacing the tray? Should I expect them to quote me a price before they do the repairs?

Jacob305 went through this a few days ago with his tray repair. (find his post(s) 11/19 ) Sounded like a quick fix.
Maybe he can give you a heads up.

bruce73,

If Oppo is sending you a prepaid label, then the service will most likely be FREE even though the player is out of warranty. Also, your player can't be 2 years old unless you were a beta tester.

I took my player in person at the oppo office. They fixed it and sent it off the same day. I got it the next day from fedex.

It needed a cleaning for dust.

Good to know.

Yes, I mis-spoke. I purchased it thru Amazon on 9/7/09. Considering OPPO"s reputation, that"s hopefully close enough to warranty for them.

OPPO service is bar none the best in the business. I am a happy 83 owner. I can not fathom why people are selling off the 83 for the up and comming 93. When I replace my 83 it will be for the 93 but I wouldn't consider selling my 83, that will become my secondary player, my current Pioneer 51FD goes to my sister as her first blu-ray player.

Anyone have issues with the Expendables? My 83SE hung up on the Top Menu several times. I erased the persistant storage but it did not help. I tried my BD30 and it played fine. I have the latest FW version (BDP83-50-0424) that is shown on the Oppo site.

I don't recall hearing about issues, but I haven't played it myself. I would try the beta firmware.
