I am a AVS member and I have not voted and I am waiting for a new firmware update because in all honesty it is NOT ready yet for prime time release. The people who are complaining about taking so long will soon get their BD player, and start complaining about this feature or that feature not working right. All that has been established is that 150 some odd folks say they do not have issues with the player in their system, and or they simply have not used the player under enough different senarios to care. OPPO set the quota for a reason. They want their units to work on 70% of the systems out there and work properly with minimal amount of issues. The final 30% of with problems can be worked out over time by final incremental firmware updates.

OPPO knows that. So we wait for another firmware update. Hopefully that will the correct enough issues to push the voting over the 70% threshold.

The balls in their court not the EAP testers court.

If I change down mix to just dolby d it still says 4.0. It is not really easy to run a analog center due to rack layout.

If you have Dolby processing turned on in the player, turn it off.

Kinda creepy isn't it? I usually keep the curtains closed just in case.

Neuro,

Can Oppo adjust the FW in this way..... when I turn my player with cd in it that it only play when I press play? When I put a cd in, the player starts the cd and a few seconds of the song is missed.

That's my take as well. I'd be willing to bet [someone else's paycheck] that Yes votes will be filling up the board when several notable issues are resolved. I think most every EAPer wants to vote yes and will when they feel it's ready. I'd also be willing to bet that Oppo wouldn't release it until the next firmware release anyway so in my mind arguing about voting/non-voting/no-voting is pointless.

But didn't they ask that EAP members vote AS IS. Not to expect/wait for another firmware update. I think they had hoped to get more responses than they have, even if they were all no. I assume the ones who haven't voted are appathetic about the EAP voting and just wanted the player.

That said, I hope they do have another update just around the corner which resolves the CD speed/vibration issues as those are the 2 I see that hold most voters to a no.

Why don't you suggest that directly to Oppo?

Well I guess I was partly wrong myself.

Nice of you throw in this juicy tidbit Neuro. I don't remember reading this anywhere, especially when we were discussing the parts about a month ago. Are you sure you didn't fumble your NDA?

Does the Auto-play setting in Setup do this? I ask without recent testing, so I'm not sure.

I don't think it is a secret that OPPO is using a Sony servo. There is a reason why the DV-983H switched to Sony (from Sanyo). OPPO needed some experience with a new servo in anticipation of the BDP-83.

Maybe no one has discussed this in the forums, but I know for sure OPPO has not been keeping this a secret.

The decoder, on the other hand...

Bill,

I will look into to this. When I added the new FW, I had to reset the player.

You can pop the hood on 1/2 the players/drives/loaders out there and find a Sony OPU or servo.

Sony is far superior this time around when compared to the Sanyo options. Go check out the compatibility threads for Sanyo horror stories.

Voting is to be conducted when you personally feel you have used the player long enough to make an informed decision.

Some people made this decision within a day of owning the player, some may require a month or more.

Doesn't mean it is not silk screened to protect the innocent. Many manufacturers will silk screen their own names on the SoC in order to increase their brand image (ie. if you are Sony or Panasonic, you want everyone to believe that the magical juice is "Sony" or "Panasonic" engineering, and not some third party chipset which another vendor may use).

You can do a lot with enough steam and string.

Please note that I earlier reported the same issue with the Vicky Christina Barcelona DVD (my Blockbuster was out of the BD), no dialogue from the center speaker although I could hear music in the surrounds. This was fixed when I went from PCM to Bitstreaming to my D2V. Not my preferred solution, but it was a work-around.

MAGIC beans. That's why they keep calling the BDP-83 a "giant killer."

It's also why some of them rattle .....

I just emailed Oppo and Anthem about this one.

Hmm, you say bitstreaming is a workaround, but he says it doesn't help.

I wonder what the difference is for you two?

Adjust the autoplay option in the setup.

DVD versus Blu-ray. The DVD is likely mastered with a 3.0 Dolby Digital track, while the Blu-ray (which claims to have a Dolby Digital track on the back of the box) only has a single 3.0 LPCM track.

If a handshake is causing the problem with the Anthem, then switching to bit stream (only available for the DVD) would resolve the issue, as now the receiver is responsible for all audio decoding.
