Just watched Transporter 3 on my 1600 tonight and was delighted. PQ and AQ were both as good as I've seen on an HDTV. Just wow. then I decided to sign up for the Netflix trial and stream some movies wirelessly through a Dlink DAP-1522 wireless bridge. It worked perfectly! PQ looked as good as my digital cable at the very least. I fully expected it not to work but it did.

I also would like to reiterate how fast this player is. It's not PS3 fast, but it also isn't much slower. I am digging my 1600 to be sure!

I hate HHGregg, but they do have this for $239. Best Buy is currently offering any Bond BD for free with the purchase of this player. I wonder if they would price match HH's price and still let me have a free Bond BD?
Given what's been stirred up about BB purposefully not honoring their own price match policy, I'd say it will depend completely on the location and employee you ask.
I found the store price match policy online. It says any free promo associated with the product purchased at BB will not apply if a pricematch is made. There goes that.

I've heard this unit has a fan where the 1500 did not, but does that make it sound noisier? Does it really help with cooling? My 1500 is fanless and never gets hot or even warm...

Any info would be helpful, because I may want to upgrade in the living room and put the 1500 in the bedroom then.

It's funny, I've seen several BD-P1500s playing the Blu-Ray demo disks (all day long?) at BB while hooked up to 40 or 46 inch LCDS and the players did not seem "hot" to the touch. Maybe those demo disks don't give the 1500 a heavy enough workout to make them hot?

I did see my first operational BD-P1600 at Fred Meyer on Tuesday. It was hooked up to one of those new Samsung LED TVs, playing the IronMan Blu-Ray. (stunningly thin TV by the way) As opposed to the fanless 1500, the BD-P1600 does have a fan on the back and there was a good amount of heat being blown out the back of the player.

I like the look of the 1500's face better and don't like the flip down faceplate. Functionally, I don't know if it makes a difference, the faceplate that is. I didn't get to see the remotes.

I dig the faceplate of my 1600, gives it a real clean look. It's not like I have to pull it down to get to the disc everytime, I just hit eject on my Harmony remote and the drive does it for me. The Samsung remote feels and looks pretty cheap, but that gets stored in a tupperware bin along with ~10 other remotes. Funny but, Pandora Radio is actually what made me choose the 1600 over the 1500.
I have my 1500 in a kind of open television stand where it sits on a glass plate... I haven't felt it get hot yet... Is this a really big issue? Netflix is of no use to me, but the wireless ready feature is intriguing.

Quick question, can it decode dts-hd-ma and truehd out of box or with firmware update? Also is it bd-live out of box or with firmware update?
So a standard 1GB USB flash drive stick is all that's needed for this unit, correct? Does it matter if it's a 2GB? 4GB? I've got some of those lying around, which is why I ask.
I believe it will decode all the HD audio formats with existing firmware - I output bitstream so my Sony STR-DG820 will decode - plus BD Live - if you insert a memory stick. There are no firmware updates available to date.

It says at least a 1MB drive to use the BD Live so I would think it would take 2MB or 4MB.
I think you mean GB and not MB, right?
Does anyone know if this player support divx playback via the file being stored on a USB hard drive connected to the BR player?
I don't think it does... you may want to look at the Panasonic players for that feature.
Yes - 1GB - I do this all the time - wait till everything becomes TB and and then I'll be using GB.

BTW - Amazon now lists the WIS09ABGN as a pre-order - available 4/17 for $34.99. I called samsungparts.com and cancelled the $92 order I made there last week.
Any PQ or SQ between this unit and the PS3 I already have. I'm using an Onkyo 805 to my Swans and a 52xbr4 as a display.

Will the only upshot be improved upconversion?

Can anyone with a 1600 confirm that Blu Ray movies in this player go to Stop after being paused for 5 minutes?

Thank you,
Aaron
I received my BD-P1600 yesterday and hooked it up immediately. I connected it to my network via ethernet cable and the Samsung found the internet within moments. Netflix setup was a snap and picture quality (particularly HD material such as The Office) is excellent (considering the source). Pandora was easy as well...I'm lovin' it! Blu-ray is, of course, excellent.

A few gripes...And I'd love to know if others are experiencing the same issues:

1. Pressing the eject button while viewing Netflix content kicks the player out of Netflix and back to the main menu. Seems odd to me...

2. When I watch a blu-ray movie, then switch over to Netflix, and then switch back to the blu-ray movie, all blacks become lavender in color. Yeah...Seriously...The letterboxing and everything. If I press the "Disc Menu" button and then resume the movie from the disc menu, blacks return to the appropriate shade of...black.

3. 24p isn't working...Though this could be the result of the HDMI repeater I'm passing it through (though it worked with my former Sony BDP-S350). And, yes, my television is 120Hz with 24p compatible inputs. I'm going to run the P1600 straight into my television tonight, bypassing the repeater, in an effort to remedy this issue.

4. Sound on the "Bitstream (Re-Encode)" setting sounds terrible (and appears as DTS 2.0 on my receiver). The entire soundstage sounds muted and without proper separation. Changing the setting to "Bitstream (Audiophile)" sounds great. This was not the case when I owned the Samsung HD-DVD/Blu-ray combo player. Strange...

Aaron...I'll try the pause thing tonight and get back to you with my experience (if someone else doesn't beat me to it).

I'm looking forward to a firmware update. While I'm impressed with my P1600, it's certainly not without it's bugs.

My unit not only stops after being paused for awhile, it shuts down completely.

Does this unit provide a 'Breakpoint' if you shut down the movie 1/2 way through and attempt to resume the following day from right where you left off?

Just got mine this afternoon from Crutchfield. Hooked it up and initially was fine. Started watching the Office and saw some red sparkles in the picture. Tried a different episode with the same results. Thought maybe it was a Netflix issue but flipped over to my 360 and all was well. So I popped in the Madagascar 2 Blue Ray. Initially it looked fine as well. After about 10 minutes or so I noticed the dreaded sparkles had returned. As if this was not enough the audio started freaking out a bit. The lights that display what speakers are active on my Yamaha AVR were going on and off rather quickly and the audio was going in and out. I tried swapping out HDMI cables to see if maybe it was just a handshake issue but had the same problems. I'm not giving up on this player yet, the guys at Crutchfield are sending me a new one tomorrow so maybe I will get one without any bugs. Anybody else have any issues like these?

Anyone know if the 1600 has the ability to stream avi's/mp3's over the network connection like the 3600?

I just bought the the last 2550 at Best Buy and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to return it w/i the 30 days and go for the 1600. Wireless is not a big deal, but the streaming might sway me.

Anybody know how Netflix compares on the 1600 to the 2550?

Sounds like you got a bad egg. Sparkles are usually an indication of faulty video ram. A new player should fix your issues.

I doubt there is a difference between the 1600 and 2550 wrt netflix quality. The main difference in function between these two machines (besides analog out, built in BD live ram and reon upscaling) is going to be speed. The 1600 is damn fast for an HD player. Damn fast. I do not think you can stream from a PC on the 1600.

I just received my 1600 from Amazon today. It's replacing a 1400 that worked perfectly for me. I'm very impressed so far. I like the load times, and the Netflix and Pandora. In regards to the earlier question, the 1600 doesn't do any kinda of streaming from a PC.

If anyone is interested, there is a review up on CNET about the 1600. Seems that they're mostly impressed, except for the door, and give a slight edge to the Panny BD60 for SD playback.

I moved the 1600 to my Samsung LN52A750 for 24p and it won't work as well, I haven't tried a direct connection, going through a HK 354 at the moment. Previously I had a Toshiba A20 running 24p through this with no problems.....

There's anecdotal proof that Reon scaling in the P2550 is applied to Netflix content as well, so there is a significant possibility you will see a difference, especially on larger screens. I can see a notable difference in sharpness and clarity on Netflix programing from my P2550 vs my TivoHD.

Did not realize. I stand corrected. I can say that the netflix quality of the 1600 is excellent though, and possibly better than that of the Xbox 360 at least.

24p is now functioning properly on my system. I ran a firmware update on my HDMI repeater and all is well now (with regard to frame rate, anyhow).

I'm still working to diagnose the cause of this "lavender is the new black" issue. When I switch from Netflix to a blu-ray movie, the Samsung seems to go crazy and loses its ability to display blacks. All blacks become lavender in color. Stopping the movie and restarting fixes the issue. Again...This too may be an HDMI repeater issue. I haven't yet connected the P1600 directly to my Sony XBR5...I'll be doing so this tonight.

Cat 5, what size TV do you have? I'm considering a 50" or 54" and was curious how the 1600 handles Netflix on something this size.

$35 from Amazon is far more reasonable than $92 from Samsung. Still hoping E-Outlet Canada eventually gets these refurbished for a price similar to what they have the P1500 at now... picking one up for NetFlix in the bedroom with the wireless adapter from Amazon would be nice.

Thanks for pointing this out. I set my unit up today and thought the same thing. My Denon receiver is older and does not have HDMI connections so I will have to use bitstream. I will switch to audiophile ASAP.

I just switched from a Panny DMP30 to the 1600. The DMP30 does have better SD playback but the 1600's ability to stream netflix and pandora make me forget that very quickly!!!

I have the 1600 on a 52" Aquos right now. Netflix looks much better than I had expected. I'm beginning to think the streaming business couls turn out to be very big!
