If you're using audiophile via optical with an older receiver try switching to re-encode and see if that fixes the problem.

Hmm... i was getting popping sounds as soon as the trailer transitions to another one or when i hit on the next button. I'll try this.. hope it fixes the issue i'm having.

Also does anyone know why the usb video isn't supported? I tried all formats and it seems to not work. I know this has been going on for a few months now. What's up with samsung not fixing this issue or why did they even add it in the first place.

PS. any alternatives than using the samsung link stick? it's way too pricey. I'd like to avoid using the CAT 5 connector since I would need a 50 ft cable.

I'm at 2.04 and last night I had problems with Angels and Demons. Stopped early in the movie for about 10 seconds and continued, then stopped again at 1:22 and sat there for more than 2 minutes. I moved to the next chapter, which worked, and back and everything worked fine. I played it again today and jumped directed to 1:17 and it froze at 1:20. Did it again and it froze about 1:21. Each time, chapter forward and back and it played to finish. Check my firmware and system say up to date with 2.04.

OK I just noticed something tonight. I was watching Transformers 2 and I noticed that my tv says it is playing 1920x1080@60hz and PCM sound on my 1600 and I know it should be 1920x1080@24hz and DTS sound like it is right now playing on my PS3. Why is the 1600 not doing the same as my PS3 do I need an update or change something in thw 1600? Thanks for any help....

For the person saying Star Trek went completely silent, that is 100% normal. The space scenes have no noise because there is no noise in space.

Be forewarned....

Just read the 2.05 thread at CNET and someone who got an early copy of "Terminator Salvation" can't play the movie on this player. So be prepared for another issue....

Hey Folks -

Have to say I've loved the P1600 so far, and haven't really had any problems until fairly recently.

Within the last 2 firmware upgrades or so I've noticed that when starting a movie and switching from the Netflix Queue menu to actually streaming a piece of content I am getting a lot of black screens where the player thinks it is playing but no video (and some time no sound) is played back.

I have HDMI from the P1600 into a Pioneer SC-07 and that feeds the Samsung display.

I've noticed that the output appears to change from the P1600 when it actually starts playing video vs displaying the menu and I think it may be confusing the display or the SC-07.

Seemingly changing to a different source on the SC-07 and changing back to the "BD" input fixes it.

The problem is inconsistent though, and my wiring setup makes it difficult to test directly plugging in to the display.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

TIA!

Do you have the ability to play netflix or youtube on your player?

Anybody have their audio settings on BITSTREAM (RE-ENCODE)? If so, how are the results?

I've always had mine set to BITSTREAM (AUDIOPHILE). I'm using an optical receiver. I've been tempted to set it to Re-encode, but I never really liked the idea of the audio being re-encoded. It makes me feel like I'm losing audio quality. I'm debating whether I should set it to re-encode because it looks like some people have had audio glitches when their setting it on Audiophile, particularly on "The General." I don't own that so I don't know how it will work on my player. I also like the idea that Re-encode can give you surround sound on PCM 5.1 tracks. That's another bonus.

For those who tried both Audiophile and Re-encode....which gives the least amount of glitches? Any difference in sound quality?

Hi only youtube , Netflix is not accessible, that service is not available on the player menu. It also plays DivX files , it does a very good job of decoding the files, but it does not uploads the indexes of the ultra DivX file.

I've had a lot of audio glitches using bitstream audiophile, re-encode has been problem free. Both sound good to me! I haven't tried audiophile with 2.04 yet, maybe i should. My 1600 has played every thing i've thrown at it using this firmware.
Thanks....I never experienced any glitch with Audiophile but maybe I might've lucked out on buying and renting the right movies. I guess to ensure that no problems do arise in the future, I'll set it to re-encode and see how things go.

Same here. When I'm on audiophile I get audio glitches in The Watchmen and The General. In both cases the glitches happen at the same points in the film and are repeatable. Switching to re-encode eliminates the glitches and lets me play those movies with no trouble.

I'm on 2.05, but the glitches have existed on Watchmen since 1.04. I was on 2.05 already when I got The General so that's the only firmware version I've tested it on.

The wild card in this for me is that back on 1.04 and 1.05 I had some audio problems with The Dark Knight while in re-encode mode and I had to switch to audiophile to get rid of them. Go figure. But the problems were different than those I was having with the other two films; instead of the audio popping in and out really fast it would just drop completely for a split second at a time, and it happened every ten minutes or so.

However, those problems occurred with my first 1600, which died shortly thereafter and I had to exchange. I haven't tested TDK on my replacement unit with the newer firmware yet.

surfed through net and found the reason why P1600 doesn't play MKV/DivX/etc from USB/disks.. it's because the device decides to allow features depending on your region, the firmware update doesn't matter! so if you are in Americas, you won't get these features, but people in UK, Auastralia, S.Africa, Greece.. they reported it works. i think Samsung wants "fair" value for people across the world - these regions where extra features work (netflix, online stuff whatever) they get file playback limited.

you can make device region-free and you can set your country to unlock limits: forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1221145.html

this player got impressive ratings by reviewers, but low rating by users on many webs. it's because noone gots patience to read the manual and so many people brick their device.

since I love having all movies on HD and MKVs are so popular for distributing blueray quality movies online, this players should be the best on the market.

It's been about 3 weeks since I rolled back to Firmware 1.04. Been playing movies on my player everyday and it has been absolutely problem-free. Plays every movie I throw in it without any problem and doesn't freeze on the menus. There's definitely something wrong with the 2.XX firmwares because why is 1.04 working perfect for me while Firmwares 2.03 and above are nothing but headaches? I seriously hope Samsung is working on a stable firmware. I don't care if it takes months to get released...as long as it's stable, I'm happy. In fact, the longer they take between firmwares, the better because that means more quality control. I notice the 2.XX firmwares were getting released so fast and that may be the problem. They're rushing them.

I still haven't run into a problem with 2.05, but I don't have any of the discs that people are complaining about either.

The 2.xx firmwares came out so fast because they kept breaking features of the player so they had to come out with quick fixes.

I'm with you. I'd like Samsung to take their time and give us a really good, stable update next.

Good morning,

I am having issues with my player handling burned discs. My method is as follows:

- Capture audio/video from a VCR using Hauppauge PVR-150 with RCA inputs.

- Create project to generate DVD image file using DVDflick software

- Burn to DVD using Imgburn software.

The disc is recognized fine and plays well on my Xbox 360, but the BD-P1600 does not recognize the disc and ejects it (better than freezing, I suppose...). I am (supposedly) creating the files in a regular DVD video format, so the player sould recognize it, right?

Has anyone else had similar issues or know of a fix/method to make things work? Other recommendations? Thanks,

Brian

Oddly enough I had a similar issue with a DVD I burned from an image. The 1600 said it didn't recognize the format or something, but it played fine in my standard DVD player. Then again my standard DVD player can read anything.

It only happened with that one disc though. Other DVDs I've burned (using the same program) have all worked fine. I don't know what it is about that disc that the 1600 doesn't like.

Are those DVD+Rs? According to the manual, this player does not support that format. Only DVD-Rs will work.

Someone at the CNET thread reported this same issue with "Terminator Salvation." I notice both titles are by Warner Bros, are encoded in DTS-HD, and have Maximum Movie Movie mode as a special feature. So it looks like this audio cut out will be present on most of Warner's new Blu-ray titles. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if people have this issue with the new Harry Potter movie due next week.

My friend has the movie and we watched it on his PS3 and it played fine. I haven't tried Watchmen on this player, but since many others here reported the same problem, I'm pretty sure I will have the same problem. I have a feeling this problem could be due to the Maximum Movie Mode feature. Since this is such a unique feature on WB's titles, then these might have a different standard than other BDs. And it seems like all the firmwares so far on this player get cranky with it.

I'm thinking about updating my firmware with a different countries so I can play Divx files. I know Brazil firmware can play divx but when you update with that countries firmware does that change the language of the machine to that countries language? If so does anyone know of a english firmware that can play divx.

So if I do this hack I will be able to play videos from a USB disk and my shared folder on my PC on my 1600?

Hi All,
I bought a floor model of the Samsung BD-P1600 at Best Buy about a month ago but very cheap ($115 with remote, I thought it was a steal, the unit looked cosmetically new). I bought the player primarily for watching streaming Netflix via the Ethernet connection and its been working great for that purpose for the last month. We bought a blu-ray for the kids's to watch on it, and when inserted, it says "cannot read the disc". However, any standard dvd's are read and play fine. Its any blu-ray that it won't read (tried about 5 different ones). I checked my receipt and darn, I'm out of the 30 return policy by a few days. Its my own fault for not testing beforehand. I know Best Buy will probably refuse return of the unit so I guess I'm forced to send it to Samsung for repair. Anyone have an idea what may be wrong (I'm thinking the laser is bad)? I am up to date with latest firmware by the way. Any suggestions before I contact Samsung for warranty repair return? Thanx in advance for any suggestions.
Dave

Everything I've read from users indicates that none of the region hack codes work on the US version, so I've been afraid to try. I'd try something like that on a $40 DVD player (which I did successfully) but not on my only BD player.
OK Thanks. I am looking for a way to play video files from USB and from my computer since all the hardware is there I am just guessing that it is just a software limitation... You have to spend $200 more for the Samsung model that does that out of the box...

Dave,

I would check with Best Buy before you go the Samsung route. I've
had real good luck with Best Buy going above and beyond in the past.

Good luck.

Doesn't look like that works with american version. It doesn't seem right that Samsung advertises mkv/divx playback on the USA site then delivers a product that only plays them outside the USA...
I bought my blue-ray in August 2009, connected everything and then very dissapointed that I had to buy a seperate dongle at $80.00. At the time I didn't want to purchase, I waited three months and purchased one for $49.00.
Plugged it in and then recieved dropped and sporatic songs from Pandora.

After 4 calls to Samsung they told me I had to send it in to be fixed, a week later I get a call "the part is under warranty but the labor is $60.00" What else can I do I am invested at this point.

I get the player back and still have the same issues, even though i doubled my internet speed with my ISP.

What to do Netflix works, and dvd player is good. It would have been nice if they could have perfected it before they shipped them out.
