Official Samsung BD-P1600 Owners/master thread - Page 57

Pandora and Netflix work very well for me with an ethernet (hard-wired) connection-I moved my wireless modem/router into the room with the 1600, and hard-wired it to the ethernet port on the back. I then bought a $100 Brother wireless laser and put it upstairs in the room where I previously had the modem. So, now, the 1600 works fine, I didn't buy a dongle and I have a wireless network as before.

Hey all,

I'm having a problem with my BD-P1600 turning on 24 Fs.

I go into Setup--->Display Setup--->Movie Frame (24 Fs) and select On, the BDP restarts, and when I go back into setup it is turned off again.

Any ideas?

Does your TV support it?

Same thing Samsung Tech Support asked. It does (confirmed with the manufacturer), it supports these frame rates at 1080p:

24 Hz, 30 Hz, 60 Hz: 1080p

When turn Movie Frame (24 Fs) on, the screen goes blank, the Samsung startup screen displays. I go back into Setup and it is turned off.

They are DVD-R's. I think I'll try the recording again, as the original try was lousy.

Note: Thanks for moving this, Mods. I wasn't sure if every issue should be posted in the master thread or not.

The BD-P1600 won't play video via USB. It is only USB 1.1. See http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/...=0&PROD_ID=839

Also the BD-P1600 does not support PC Streaming (aka DLNA). You need the BD-P3600 or LG BD390 or other higher end model for that.

Turn BD-Wise off. This is what is resetting your settings.

BD Wise is On, but grayed out and disabled. How Do I turn it off? I don't have any other Samsung components.

Do I get the 5.1 surround sound from the blueray movie when streamming from Netflix?
First disc I've tried that has issues. I'm on the latest firmware. It just skips ahead constantly after the Paramount splash screen, no video, no sound.

Where does it say mkv/divx playback on the USA site for the 1600? I've never seen that......

Bought Terminator Salvation today and it had a few freeze-ups and skips. I have been using FW 1.03 because basically all my BD's played rather well except for "UP" which had a glitch or two. Well my 1600 has been nagging me for months to upgrade the FW. Being a rainy Saturday here in NY I decided to pull the trigger and update to 2.05. Downloaded via ethernet connection. Placed Terminator back in the machine and skipped to the problem spots. The disc played flawlessly. I also did the Pandora thing and that is playing without a hitch. Going to play the Terminator Salvation Directors Cut tonight BD tonight to see if there are any problems. Will report back.

I have a bd 1600 bluray player. I also have netflix, so far I've just been using my macbook+VGA to watch stuff. But I am probably going to order the wifi dongle. I read a lot of reviews and most say neflix works, but I assume most of those people have better connections than I do.

I only have a 1.5mbps connection(DSL) and I dont even get that most of the time more like 1.3-1.4. On the xbox 360 in my bedroom I get 2 bars/sometimes 3 bars on SD content.

What alarmed me was in the CNET review of the 1600 they said that some of the SD content is not in widescreen. If it works anything like the PS3 with the widescreen content squished to 4:3 or whatever than that will suck.

Anyone have any experience with the 1600 and netflix using a low connection (1.5Mbps). Or any samsung player or whatever is comparable. I just want to know if it will work as well as the 360 does or not.

It actually only supports MKV playback via USB. Here's the cnet article that talks about this.

Same here. I can tell you that youtube and pandora have been playing flawlessly on ver. 2.05 on a 1.5mbps ethernet connection. I've been holding back on starting an account with netflix due to the same concerns that you have. So if anyone out there can share their netflix experiences over a 1.5mbps connection, we would truly appreciate it

It looks like Cnet has finally acknowledged the fact that there is a huge discrepancy on blu ray product reviews/ experiences between their reviewers and everyday users. It's a must read in the sense that it includes an official response from samsung (a lot of legal mumbo jambo response mostly) and a future notation on all their blu ray player reviews by cnet reviewers concerning this issue in the future. It isn't much but I think this is a decent start that will hopefully get samsung's attention starting immediately on their blu ray line of products.

I myself have until this point been lucky enough to enjoy my 1600 without too many problems (ver 2.05; a couple of freezes and discs being stuck all remedied by rebooting) so I guess I've been lucky compared to most of you out there. Superb pandora and youtube playback on a measly 1.5mbps connection. I haven't extensively thrown a lot of blu ray discs on it yet (still too expensive IMHO) but has played everything perfectly for the decent amount that I've tried. But that's just me

Oops!!! Before I forget, here's the article

The second is that I periodically have really nasty distorted audio when playing a CD or using Pandora. I made sure that my lightpipe to the receiver wasn't kinked and was plugged in properly on both sides, checked the receiver to make sure that the right settings were on, etc... but it just sounds awful.

Any ideas?

I've had the no menu problem too. Anyone else having this, and more importantly is there a fix?

The firmware update is taking forever for me. Took a while to download, and its been processing for at least 30 min by now. What should I do? First update I've done on it.

Does it always take a really long time to update?

edit: update i guess I should have been more cautious when updating. I read a lot of reviews and stuff that mentioned this issue. I took the disc out before lik erecommended, but its now been going for well over 1.5 hrs at this point. And not downloading, the processing.

Is it bricked. I just bought it yesterday, so I can just return it I guess. But what do I do when I want to update that new one?

edit: after 4 hours I decided to pull the plug with the intention of boxing it up and returning it to frys. Well I plugged it back in and it works perfectly, what the hell. Gah...glad it works but so annoying.

To get my connection on the bluray I used the old trick of sharing my macbooks wifi with the 1600, same way i did it with my 360 before I converted an old router with DD-WRT to use for that function. Anyways the quality is great, SD stuff palys perfectly, takes a bit to load, but I was getting about 60% on the quality bars. Clearer than both my macbook on the TV and my 360. And my router is about 100+ feet away in another corner of the house, so I say go for the trial at least, I am very pleased with this player aside from the firmware ********. So I can say 1.5mbps connection is fine for netflix. It makes me want to upgrade my connection speed even more now to get HD content.

I have tried MKV files in various formats and my player (now running the latest 2.05 firmware doesn't even recognize there are video files on the USB device. I can play mp3's from the same device so I'm assuming it's not a problem with the USB stick itself.

What's the magic combination?

Sounds like it's stuck. It is recommended that you update via USB. Only takes about 5 minutes to update.

The original assertion was that the Samsung US site says that the 1600 does support MKV. This is a link to a CNET article, and the article is talking about MKV on the 3600. I still don't see where Samsung is saying the 1600 plays MKV files...

I have a toshiba 52 inch dlp , about 5 years old and hdcp compliant.

I bought a samsung bdp1600 hooked it up to hdmi, turned it on got splash screen then nothing, had it default to lowest res still nothing, tried another hdmi cable still nothing.
Hooked up to component worked fine, so thought was defective, took it back and got a sony bdps360
exact same thing except screen will flicker with a bit of green every 10 secs or so.

currently have a upconverting dvd connected to it, no issues, and no issue with ps3.

i bought the bluray player to replace the old and sketchy dvd player so need hdmi for the upconvert, only think I can think of is hdcp handshaking issue, but why is there no problem with dvd player or ps3.\\

so am i basically screwed buying bluray player for upconverting to and have to run a dual setup.

on another note, is there any optical splitters out there, have 3 devices needed optical digital, only 2 connections

thanks

Then the link doesn't belong in a forum thread dedicated to the 1600. I've pretty much decided to throw in the towel at this point and upgrade to an Oppo BDP-83. This will be my first and LAST purchase of a Samsung AV product, given what I've learned about their poor customer support and the straight-up false advertising about the 1600's USB playback capabilities when I purchased it earlier this year at Best Buy.

When "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" comes out on Tuesday, I would appreciate it if people would post feedback on how well this Blu-ray title works on this player. And post your firmware version along with it. It looks as though this title will use the same authoring process as the "Terminator Salvation" so I won't be surprised if people encounter compatibility issues. Since I really would like to buy this movie, I will not do so until I can get confirmation that it plays ok on this player.
I bought this player today, first off the firmware update on the provided disc wouldn't load, so I did it via usb, I watched the Incredible Hulk, looked/sounded fine, until I had to pause it for 10 minutes. When I restarted the movie i noticed the audio was out of sync, by a couple seconds, paused the movie again and once started the sync problem was gone, I have the newest firmware off of the samsung website.

So im not terribly impressed so far, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed a similar audio sync problem, is it a firmware bug?
Today I had my first Netflix glitch since upgrading to 2.05. It's the same problem I had with older firmware where the display timer would stop but the movie would keep going, but if I stopped the movie and resumed it later it would pick up at the time at which the display timer froze. It did that a lot with the 1.xx versions but I hadn't experienced it with 2.xx until today.

I rebooted the player and went back into the same movie I was watching in Netflix and it worked fine.

What Forum thread? Oh, this one. Well my assertion stands--I still don't see Samsung advertising on their US site that this player does MKV. That someone else linked to an article that shows that the 3600 can play MKVs to imply the 1600 can too is hardly Samsung's fault (although they should have been clearer when adding the feature that the 1600 wasn't covered).
i am starting to think bluray is doomed to fail, it will never reach mass appeal with constant problems like i read.

maybe i should forgo bluray until they can get their act together, bluray shouldnt have been released for another couple of years, hddvd should have won.
Be lucky that problems can be fixed via firmware update. If problems aren't fixed, then it's merely the fault of the brand, such as Samsung, and is not the format's fault. If the PS3 can work correctly, I see no reason why other players can't perform the same way.

Um...the ability to play videos (I believe WMV/DIVX/Mpeg4) were specifically mentioned and was in the listed features of the player packaging (I bought it at a BestBuy retail location in the US) and in the manual. The manual has since been updated to remove this feature.

Apparently, this feature has been intentionally deleted in some markets and is available in firmware builds for other markets. The US seems to enjoy a wealth of online options, but the USB video playback was deleted. My emails to Samsung asking about this have gone unanswered. So it is particularly frustrating to know that the player is capable of playing video from USB, but that Samsung has decided to switch that feature off in my market.
