The last two movies that would not play in my BD-P1600 were "Invictus" and "Book of Eli". Both of these disks will play the FBI warning and then the previews on the disk. Then the loading screen (a spinning disk with a red line on it) will spin around for a few seconds and then go into a perpetual hang.

After this, the only way to get the player to do anything is to turn it off.

Is there anyone out there that can confirm, or provide a solution, to this issue?

I do have the latest firmware installed, and I have tried the Samsung "hold FF button to reset" trick.

I have the same problem with Invictus: It gets to the load (spinning disk) screen then locks up. The only way out is to turn off the player. No solution.

This is the first BD from Netflix that didn't play right. It goes thru the previews and then basically stops the player - says that there's "no signal". The player does not respond to any orders until stopped and restarted. I'm on 2.09.
I have no other discs to try so I've asked Netflix to send another copy.
Everything else seems to work OK.

FWIW, I just discovered that the 2.09 firmware seems to have fixed the Snow White BD memory problem. Now when I first put in the disc it says "I see you've finally returned" (or something to that effect) rather than "This is your first visit."

Hello all,

I will add that I seem to have the same problem with new Warner releases from Netflix. In particular Sherlock Holmes and Book of Eli. Both freeze on the spinning disc. Both play fine in my PS3. I'm on the latest firmware. I've sent the info along to Samsung, hopefully they will fix this soon.

Interesting. I've been playing Sherlock largely without issue (IIRC) since it came out. At any rate, it's playing well enough right now.

Are you on the latest firmware and using HDMI? I read a thread on a CNET forum where this guy started getting this problem with Terminator Salvation (Warner) only after applying the latest firmware. And he gets the same thing on Sherlock Holmes.

I'm having a new issue: I have a Samsung 40" LED TV along with the BD-1600 player. Up until the last month or so, AnyNet+ was working just fine - the TV had no problem recognizing when I turned on the DVD player. Now, all of a sudden, it keeps telling me the AnyNet+ device isn't connected.

AnyNet+ is turned on on both the DVD player & the TV, HDMI cable is connected, Network is connected via the router, both have the most recent firmware. What am I missing?

Well, they sent another and it was worse - made the 1600 stop cold after the preview! In the meantime we played a Cirque de Soleil OK from beginning to end.
Something weird about the SONY BD that it didn't like.

Anyone else having issues with Inglorious Basterds? Never had a problem before, but the disc won't even start playing now. I have to shut the player down because it freezes.

Try disabling BD-Live. Just a thought.

I doubt it was the BD. I bought both the 1600 & 3600 because they were competitively priced (inexpensive). Both are erratic, and have the same different problems from time to time. Lip sync issues, scenes that speed up, and just not playing discs that played earlier. They are in different rooms, hooked to different equipment. As I stated earlier, I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I'll shell out the extra $, and buy a higher end unit.

Same here. In fact, I sold my 1600, but still kept my 3600 for the bedroom. Never use it anymore ever since I bought a replacement for my 1600. It just sits in my bedroom, lol. But yeah, both my 1600 and 3600 had the same problems and allergic reactions to the firmware updates. This is why the excuse that I got a lemon is VERY questionable.

Did you replace the 1600 with the Sony 360, and how to you find it's loading time & stability. I have a 300, but the loading time is terrible.

Yes, the Sony BDP-S360 is what I replaced it with. Loading time is slow, but stability is excellent. It's going on 6 months now and I still haven't encountered one problem with it. I use it daily and it never froze, hiccuped, had any lip sync issues, or any other problems. It's been rock solid. And I only had to update the firmware once, which was when I first bought it.

I was going to buy another one to replace the 3600, but then I realized that I really don’t watch much in the bedroom. So going through the hassle of selling it and then buying a new player would be too much and not worth it. I can make do with one player. I’ll probably just use the 3600 as a secondary DVD player or something since it seems to have no problem playing DVDs.

I have the exact same issue with "Invictus" and "Book of Eli" in my BDP-3600. Firmware version 2.09. The movies play fine on my Panasonic player. I contacted Samsung a couple weeks ago about Invictus and they were no help...."try reflashing"...followed by "...if that doesn't work, must be your player and you'll have to send in fro repair." I'm calling them again.

I haven't upgraded the firmware in my BDP-1600 for over one year and I haven't experienced any problems with the playback of any discs. At this point I'm reluctant to rock the boat by upgrading to version 2.09. Any contrary opinions? Thanks!

I watched Invictus last week on my 1600 firmware 2.05 and had no problems.

I'm in roughly the same boat. I haven't found any reason (yet) to upgrade, so I haven't.

Thanks for the response; I'm sticking with whatever firmware version that I last installed...

What are the odds we'll be getting hulu plus on this machine? If we did, I think I'd cancel my dtv.

Just about nil. Don't even know that any of the latest generation are going to be getting it but the highest end (kind of like what they did with the 25x0 when Netflix first came out). Heck I don't think I've read anything about even the highest end current gen players getting it?
Reading here makes you watch for problems. I've had none except the two tries with Extraordinary Measures. Invictus (from NetFlix) played fine except that you were forced to see all the previews.
Last night we put in August Rush and got picture but no sound. No sound on Netflix streaming either. Turned the player off and back on, and sound was OK. Just hope that doesn't portend some kind of failure!
I've had the occasional odd issue such as that too that requires a reboot, and my player is still going strong (/knocks on wood). I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts happening frequently.

Anyone else have trouble with audio sync and playback issues with the new Clash of the Titans Blu-ray? I bought the move brand new yesterday and am having all kinds of problems with the 2.09 firmware. It loses audio when the pull Zeus's statue down at the beginning. And when they first start off on the trek to the witches in the woods the audio gets completely out of sync. I didn't even bother finishing it until I can figure out what the deal is.

I'm having the same playback issue after "successfully" flashing to 2.09 this weekend via the web portal. My copy of District 9 (Sony Pictures) has always played fine on my P1600 until last night. This latest flash pretty much appears to be the cause of my play-back issues. I get the initial FBI warning message when I run the BD disk followed by no signal to the TV - almost like it's an HDCP handshake issue.

I have tested Avatar on my player and it works fine with the 2.09 firmware. Based on this, it has the be this current firmware version causing my problems.

I will try to re-flash it tonight via ISO file. It looks like the folks who did it that way are having better luck.

Is anyone else having problems with Sony disks - in particular District 9?

Just saw your post. I have D9 but haven't tried it since I updated to 2.09. I'll try it and post results.

I just received Invictus from Netflix. I saw this post so I popped the disk into my BD-P1590 which has been upgraded to 2.09. I had no problems with it loading and playing.

Have the same problem too. Movies that have the same behavior as what cplcarlman stated are: "Body of Lies" and most recent movie "Clash of Titans"

I just have the spinning discs logo then it would stop. My player would stay like that. Have to turn off player.

All other blue ray movies are playing.

Hope there will be a firmware fix on this.

Well, I tried the last ditch re-flash using the ISO file. It went very smoothly and completed w/o a hitch.

However, D9 still refused to play. Firmware 2.09 is not looking good. I've got a new Oppo BDP 80 on the way to replace this Samsung POS.

That's kinda harsh to say, no?
