Yeah. I keep hoping an update will fix my Iron Man 2 issue, but I checked it as soon as I applied 2.13 and there was no change. Grrr.

Hi, I have recently purchased a Denon 791 receiver. I have connected the Samsung BD-P1600 via HDMI to the receiver and set the audio to bitstream (audiophile) per a few recommendations in this thread. When I play Blu-Ray's I get Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding through my amplifier. However when I play DVDs I only get 2-channel with Dolby Prologic/DTS-Neo6 matrix decoding, NO dolby digital 5.1 even though the DVD has this as an option.

I have a separate Pioneer DVD player that has an HDMI out for upconverting. When I plug this into the same receiver it detects dolby digital 5.1 through the HDMI.

Have I set something wrong on the Samsung BD-P1600 or does it not support DVD surround formats like Dolby Digital 5.1 over the HDMI connection?

Okay, I figured it out. I had set the output resolution on the Sammy to 480p so I could do the upconversion to 1080i on my receiver. If I change the output resolution on the Samsung to be 1080i suddenly I get dolby digital signaling sent to the receiver. So it would appear that this player only sends PCM 2-channel when the resolution is set to 480p, even if it is output over HDMI. Anyone know if this is a bug or oversight on Samsung's part or if this part of the HDMI spec?

That's correct. My player only shows what was in the queue before the update. Nothing that is added or removed via PC show up in the queue. I didn't have that problem until the latest firmware update. I also applied the current update a 2nd time.

I am also having the same issue as Stevejm, my netflix wont update the movie list on the player after the 2.13 update. Can anyone post 2.12 again so I can downgrade, Thanks.
That's the strangest thing. I just confirmed that my Netflix is updating properly. I added a movie to my queue after seeing Stevejm's reply and it's showing up on my 1600. And I'm on 2.13.

If you remove a movie from your queue in the 1600 Netflix interface does that reconcile with Netflix on your PC?
Yes removing it does reconcile on the netflix website. I tried adding a few then removing just one using the player's interface to see if that will force a refresh. But that did not work either

its working now!!

I deactivated my player through netflix's website, did a soft reset, and reapplied the update. After activating my player again it seems to be working.
I wonder if there is a way to clear your Netflix account settings from the 1600 and re-enter them, and/or re-authorize your player with Netflix? Maybe that would do something.

EDIT: Ha! You posted at about the same time I did so I didn't see your update. I figured that might work. Glad it's working again for you.

Yes I got my working! I had tried deactivating it before but no luck. So I this time I deactivated it and did a reset on the player. Then it prompted me to activated the device on my Netflix account which I did. After the reset I also had to reactivate my Pandora account. So right now everything seems to be working.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I guess I have had good luck up until now... most things have played fine since I got the BD-P1600 a year ago. In fact I've avoided upgrading from 2.04 because everything seemed OK. Then this week, two discs from Netflix wouldn't load: Objectified and Ratatouille. I did the automatic upgrade to 2.08, still wouldn't load. Then I did a USB upgrade to 2.13, still wouldn't load. Pretty frustrating. Now I'm worried that upgrading may not have been a good idea, after reading about all the problems everybody else has had with playback.

Anyone else still having trouble with Ratatouille in 2.13? Incidentally other Disney/Pixar movies like Up worked for me in 2.04, but I don't have the disc anymore to try under 2.13.

It is unusual that you got two disks in one week that wouldn't load. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is your Blue Disk Player though. I have gotten disks from Netflix with no apparent flaws that won't read at all. Washed them and looked for any little cracks and what have you. Nothing. Then got a replacement from Netflix of the same title. Voila. Perfect. Could be bad luck?

I was watching "The American" last night (awful film) and every time the Universal Studios screen saver came on when I had the disc on pause, I was unable to resume the film. I had to stop the disc, go back to the menu, select a chapter and forward to the point at which I had paused the film.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be the disc (a rental)? This did not happen as long as the Universal screen saver did not engage.

It's happened to me many times but I'm not sure that it was just Universal discs. While pause, play, ff, rew didn't seem to do anything, I've found that sometimes I could use DiscMenu to wake it up out of the screen saver.

The acting, or lack of it, was pathetic and the ending SOOOO predictable. The cinematographers seemed to think that filming closeups of Clooney's face makes a good movie. Then again, Mr. Clooney was one of the producers.....

I'll stick with my opinion which is similar to the almost 19,000 reviews at IMDB, the 200 at rottentomatoes, and 37 at metacritic.

I bet that the film gets nominated for a Razzie.

Pardon the newbie questions:

1) Is it possible to turn off the screen saver?
2) If so, does the Pause function then work properly?

Gee, if that many people have the same opinion, you must be right.

I contacted Samsung Canada and was advised that there's no way to deactivate the screen saver. The support person said that he would send a request to the technical dept. to have a fix "possibly" done for the next firmware update.

I'm not holding my breath......

Yes, I would love to see that screen saver go away (or made configurable) as it doesn't make sense on my TV and just gets in the way of Pandora (among other things).

Hey guys, so I never used to have any difficulties playing the Dexter Season 4 Blu-Ray but for some reason, after trying to load a disc (any 1 of the 4), nothing happens. It starts to load and a "loading bar" quickly flashes but then the screen remains black. I can't FF, Skip, pull up menus, etc. I've also tried prohibiting BD-Live from connecting but still nothing happens.

I then put in my Inception Blu-Ray and that works fine. So, the problem just seems to be Dexter (which used to work before).

Does anyone have any troubleshooting advice? I don't know exactly what firmware version I have since I'm at work right now. But I typically download whatever it prompts me to when I turn on the player.

Thanks in advance.

Gosh, I'm getting rid of it...

Collection is not that big but we had lots of problems with Back to the Future disc 1. No problems with 2 or 3.

Menu loads fine at first, then once you start the movie it goes dead or becomes pixelated and skips. After stop/start, menu becomes pixelated.

With the first disk, Universal had suggested to clear the cache, disconnect from online, and even remove the external USB I have. No difference.

We had the disc replaced by universal but no dice. I have just read about disabling BD-Live first, but no much hope. Is this an actual option other than just unplugging from the network?

Took the new media to someone else place that has a new Samsung and played flawlessly, so now I know it's not the media.

Firmware is up to date...

Could it be heat? My cabinet runs on the hot side...

So hopefully I'll recoup some of it and put it towards a newer unit. Ugh...

If you go into the system settings and look for Network you'll see a BD-Live setting where you can disable it. That's the first thing I would recommend to anyone. I wouldn't want to disconnect my player from the network because of Netflix, Pandora, Youtube, and firmware updates.

All three discs of the Back to the Future trilogy worked fine for me. Come to think of it though, I haven't tried them on the latest firmware. I watched mine one or two firmware updates ago. I'm assuming they still work with the latest. I'll have a look next chance I get.

the online manual for the1600 says it won't play dvd+r discs but some have reported that it does... can anybody comfirm that the most recent firmware supports dvd+r and +r dl ?

also, will it shuffle play mp3 from the flash drive?
thanks
I can confirm that it does play DVD+R and DL discs. Although, I do have playback problems every once in awhile with them though. Every once in awhile, it doesn't load, but mostly it plays but stalls out somewhere in the middle.
+1 for DVD+R.

I put all our home movies on DVD+R in AVCHD 1080p and I have never had a problem with them playing in this player. Have not tried DL though.
My writables are either Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs. These play flawlessly. I've also played both +Rs and +R DLs on the 1600 without any problem. The caveat is that I always bitset +Rs and DLs to DVD-ROM format. This makes the discs (virtually) universally compatible. I got into the habit of bitsetting when my two older Toshiba players would reject all non -Rs. Bitsetting the discs solved that problem.

For more info, see: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php or http://www.dvdplusrw.org/Article.asp...&sid=-1&aid=44
