Interesting to know in general. For my specific case I'd say that troubleshoot doesn't hold up to scrutiny just because the PS3 has no similar trouble (remember when I wrote of physically switching the HDMI cord from the back of BD1600 to PS3, taking all of 5 seconds, and the DTS multichannel audio then works?)...which is why I suggested the TV is not the problem. But to play devil's advocate (though it's a bit farfetched) I might wonder if the TV's tuner can accept PS3 input signal but not BD1600.

EDIT: think I misunderstood the first time. I'll look into that now...though that means having to undo the optical connection from my DVD player (which I prefer for DVDs) since my audio receiver only has one red-light optical input.
Also, I tested a DVD rather than a bluray. My "If All Goes Wrong" DVD has a DTS multichannel setting and a 5.1 multichannel setting. I don't know what that latter generic sounding one even is, but it works while the DTS multichannel once again does not. If all discs had whatever that generic 5.1 multichannel encoded audio is as a choice I'd be satisfied and just use it, but most don't.
I also didn't mention it earlier because I haven't had it happen in my latest round of testing (I had also fooled with this a couple of months ago), but on occasion, I've had the DB1600 play multichannel on a bluray...for all of 1 to 3 seconds and then it abruptly cuts off. That's what clued me in that maybe it has the capability but some copy protection scheme is nixing it. All my discs are legit of course so there is no legitimate reason for copy protection to be kicking in.
