So I upgraded to the latest firmware, and all I noticed was that Blockbuster Online now brings up an ad for new Samsung Blu-Ray players, "sorry for the inconvenience". [Mr T voice] We've screwed you,now buy our newst player fool!

Just loaded up 2.21, seems to have fixed the issues I started having with 2.19 where every movie I played crapped out at around 16 minutes in...
I just upgraded to 2.21 from 2.19 hoping it will cure the video issues that started with 2.19. Based on others' posts here I am optimistic that it will cure this problem. But now I have another issue related to the upgrade -- hopefully someone here can point me to a solution.

Previously I had always upgraded OTA using my internet connection. Today I upgraded using a USB stick. The upgrade went fine and I went through it twice as suggested in the instructions. But now, when I turn on the player it tells me that a newer firmware version is available and offers the old 2.19 version. I can, of course, dismiss the offer and retain 2.21 but it is annoying to see this firmware offered when I turn on the player. I'm assuming that it thinks the online version is newer and that is why it is offering it to me. Is there anyway I can make this prompt go away or am I stuck with it? Thanks.
This is because 2.21 has not gone live on the update server yet. I think there are instructions on how to block the update server in this thread somehow in your router. I have not done it, so I can't give you specifics.
OK, thought that might be the case. Thanks for confirming that I just need to wait until it is rolled out to the internet upgrade site.

I had considered blocking the upgrade server in my router but I think I'll just wait awhile and see if it corrects when they roll out the update to the internet.

Appreciate your response.

Just got firmware version 2.22 pushed to my BD-P1600. It looks like they have now completely removed Blockbuster from the unit.
Is Cinavia included in the 2.22 firmware version?
OK, For the past few days I've been getting the "nag" screen to update the firmware when I start the player. Has anybody done this? After reading all the posts of firmware updates gone wrong, I'm always hesitant to upgrade. Some how the "nag" screen always gets to me and I update, but only after it's been around a while and I see a few posts on "good" updates.

Thanks

What are you asking? Has anyone ever upgraded their player with new firmware?

Nah... I'm asking if anyone has taken the plunge on upgrading this latest release.

I always upgrade. Given past performance issues I've had with the P1600 and P3600 I can't see the updated firmware can be any worse.
I updated to 2.21, but not to 2.22 yet. 2.22 was only released 7/6/12. Looks like 2.21 (6/11/12) was never released on the update servers. Strange for them to release two updates so quickly since the previous version was back in January. Still, nice to see firmware updates for a 3-year old player. Some companies don't do that.

I have a Canadian player and the latest firmware I see online is 2.21 so I updated to it but The Hangover still won't play, it shows trailers (sound cuts off every few seconds) then the menu, but the menu tesxt doesn't show up. And it crasheds before playing the movie. Also, it is trying to push 1.19 to me and I'm on 2.21, how come no 2.22 update for me? Does it not exist in Canada? Thanks

Per my earlier post, I upgraded to V. 2.22. I think that this version is worse than previous ones, at least when it comes to streaming. Using NetFlix I have been experiencing issues with no video or occasionally no sound. The only way to fix it is to turn the player off completely and restart the movie. I did not have these problems with previous firmware versions. I have not changed anything on my end (other than the firmware) so I think that these problems must be caused by either the firmware or by NetFlix.

Upgraded to 2.22. At least when they removed Blockbuster, they didn't change the color buttons for Netflix and Pandora like they did in the past!

I'm still running Firmware 2.16 and I have a problem with Netflix where from time to time, I get audio but no video. I've only seen this happen when I play episodes from the Original Series of Star Trek. When the player gets into this state, I get no video until I cycle the power on the player. Even if I exit the episode playing and get back to the menu, there is no video (so you can't see the menu, etc.).

Very annoying. If I thought a newer firmware would fix it, I would upgrade asap. However, it looks like it's still a problem in 2.22.

It'll show up in the release notes or if you have a backup of a Cinavia BD you can test it yourself.

I made a change yesterday in the setup of the player for the default picture resolution (changed it from 1080p to 720i). Last night I watched a couple of Netflix videos and had no issues. I am not yet ready to say if this change has fixed my Netflix no video issues but so far it seems promising.

Anyone having any issues with the latest firmware update from July 5th? This is version 2.2. I can't get past the menu language selection screen. No number buttons work.
Nevermind. Unplug the unit for about 20 minutes. Seemed to do the trick.

Well, the change I made above to the default resolution (changed from 1080p to 720i) seems to have corrected the Netflix streaming (no video) issues I was occasionally seeing. I have watched numerous videos over the past few days and not had one hiccup. The player also seems more responsive. I have not had the opportunity to play any DVDs so I can't comment about performance on that part. Overall, based on my usage, I would recommend the upgrade to V. 2.22.
hi everyone! I'm kind of new here and I'm not sure if my question has already been covered, but here it goes!

I won a samsung BD-P1600 in a company raffle a few years back and it worked great initially, but about 6 months in it started making really clunky noises when I would open/close/play a disc (kind of sounded like the old school 8 inch floppy drives) and while the disc would still play, it would play choppy. This persisted a couple more times until it just stopped playing blu-rays altogether. It still plays dvds and audio cds just fine, but the 15 or so blu rays I own won't play. The error message I get is "Disc can not be played" and it spits out the disc.

I originally thought this was a firmware issue but lacking internet at the time I just let it sit. A few days ago i finally connected my BD-P1600 to my wifi and added all the new updates (I'm currently on v.2.22) with no change in blu ray performance, and the clunky sounds continue as well.

Can someone please help a guy out!
I'm no expert but this certainly sounds to me like a hardware issue. Since you have updated to the latest firmware and there are no reports here of problems playing Blu-Ray with the latest firmware, my guess is that your player needs repair (or replacement given the cost of repair vs. buying new).
ahh raspberries... i was afraid of that... looks like i'll have to give samsung a call but something tells me i may have to suck it up and plan on buying a new one...
I am still on the original firmware, 2.05 in my Samsung BD-P1600, and have never had any problems that I could attribute to firmware. Until I started Netflix in April 2012, I was viewing mostly DVDs because that's all our local library carries (was getting BDs from the Blockbuster store until it closed). Had one disc recently that hung about halfway thru but I was able to skip that chapter and view the rest of it. Never figured out the cause, didn't appear to be damaged.

Anyway, it appears many of you update firmware regularly but I know some folks have bricked their unit with a firmware upgrade. So I'm looking for advice./opinions Should I stick with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" position or upgrade my 3+ year old firmware. If I do upgrade, is one method (USB or internet) better than another?

Thanks.
For this player, I'm definitely in the 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' camp. I've read so many posts here of folks that upgraded the firmware and the result was a dead player. To add insult to injury, some were told by Samsung that the player not working was the user's fault, as they shouldn't have upgraded the firmware unless needed mad.gif

I purchased the player when it came with the 1.25 firmware and upgraded only when I needed to, which was just one time, because of problems playing a single BD.
I'm now running 2.16 and it's been doing everything I need so far.

Best of luck.

Finally had a movie not play on my BD-P1600, Sympathy for Delicious. Played find on my LG BH200, tho. Strange. Made a horrible grinding sound too. Tried another movie afterwards just to make sure the player was still ok, and it was.

Yea, that's were I'm at. When I hear that grinding I know it's going to pop up 'this disc cannot be played'. I read earlier about doing a reset. I'm going to try that. Just uploaded 2.22.
