i have a sennheiser pc 350 headset. i want to use it for online gaming on the ps3. i'm not sure on how to connect it though. it uses two 3.5mm jacks. one is for the headphones and the other is for the mic. i also have an onkyo receiver. i plan to connect the headphones to the receiver and the mic to the ps3. i'm not sure if that would work though. how can i go about this? i know i would need some type of adapter. does anyone know what it would be?

I have a similar set up.

I plug the 3.5mm microphone connector into a USB soundcard that is connected to the USB port of the ps3. I use this exact one: http://www.buy.com/prod/eforcity-usb...205879993.html

I plug the 3.5mm headphone connector into the headphone out of my onkyo receiver. (with an adapter.

I have the PS3 set up to output "headset" sound through the regular audio-out. That means that game sounds and chat sounds both come through my headphones via the receiver.

You may need one or two 3.5mm extension cords, depending on how far apart the receiver and ps3 are.

Yes, the usb "soundcard" makes it appear to the PS3 as a usb microphone.

That's cool. If the mic was detachable, I would snap this up immediately.

Well, the headset you use is pretty irrelevant as long as things connect with stereo jacks. You could get a headset that has a detachable mic, or use regular headphones with a separate mic, etc.

AccidenT,

you seem to know a lot about headsets, at least, I hope.

What are your thoughts on THIS ONE and what is your opinion on the USB soundcard that comes packaged with the headset. Are there cheaper USB soundcards that do the same (or even) better job than that one?

I definitely don't know a lot about various headsets; I just did a bit of research to figure out how to solve the problem I was having getting game sounds through headphones while still using a microphone for chat, since I do almost all of my gaming while the rest of my family is asleep.

That said, the usb soundcard is used _only_ for the microphone, and the sound from that is going to be very compressed by the time anyone you're playing with/against online hears it anyway. So I don't think a "high-end" one would be any better for this particular purpose. And obviously that means the surround-sound capabilities are meaningless unless you plan to use it with a PC as well.

What I don't know is if the one that comes with that headset even works with the PS3. I don't know how universal the USB soundcard spec is, and the fact that it doesn't work with macs seems a bit disconcerting. I went with the one I linked to because I had read that it did work with the PS3. If you've read good things about the headset itself, though, you could always shell out the extra $14 for the eforcity usb soundcard if the bundled one doesn't work. Or you can get the version without the bundled usb sound card and get the one I linked to and you'll know that it will work. http://www.steelseries.com/us/produc...o/siberia-full

I went with the red/black version (my favorite combo colors) and purchased the USB soundcard separately. I decided to go with the Siberia version. I figured that if it is made for the headset then it's best to go with it.

Basically I cashed in on my late xmas present from my wife.

I should post a review on it when it comes in. Bought them off of Amazon since they were cheaper than getting it from the Steelseries website.

Can I grab some advice. Just purchased the Senn PC 350 for ourPS3, and cant grab any sound out of them. Picked up a USB adapter and the mic seems to work, but no audio. It was recommended that I run my sound through my Rotel RSP 1068. That requires alot of adapters and splitters and cables. Any words of advice on a clean install and the best sound options?

Thanks-

Good topic. I was thinking about getting one of these as well since I game when everyone else is sleeping. Do you need a receiver or can it run mic sound and stereo sound through the headset from the PS3 itself?

AFAIK, you can't send audio out of the USB soundcard, so you'll need a receiver or some sort of optical -> headphone or RCA -> headphone adapter.
