96khz blu rays - Page 6

What ever happened with that Dolby True-HD 96khz upsampling thing-a-ma that was announced a few months ago?

It's about to be splattered all over your ears. Every major authoring and mixing facility is installing it and it will not go wide until next year's releases though there are two music titles available that already use it.

Have there been any more 96Khz or 192Khz BD titles introduced? I think it's been a while since I've pruchased one.

Is there a new list somewhere that shows the 96Khz and 192Khz titles?

I know it's already shown up on at least a few film releases, e.g. the Hong Kong release of The Raid.

Why the raid of all things? I love the film but its the dentition of low-fi

The HK release of Motorway is also a disc with 96khz/24 bit TruHD sound.

As is Dredd and The Four.

The US release of Gamera The Brave sports a Japanese 192kHz DTS-HD MA track. The movie and sound are great! Definitely one to watch with the kids (if they don't mind reading subtitles)

the US release of Dredd has 96kHZ or are you talking of the HK release? nevermind - it's the HK edition, might have to buy it (even though it's missing the 7.1 remix, even though the origianl theatrical mix was 5.1 and didn't have the extra rear channels of sound.

the kid film 'Sammy 2' (HK edition) is 96k

on the US front there's:

the Jonathan Demme documentary film "Neil Young Journeys" is 96k (odd thoughly I thought I had read that the audio was encoded at 192kHz)
'Samsara' - which makes sense since 'Baraka' and 'Chronos' were released as such. .

Nah, don't buy the HK Dredd disc.

I did.

The PQ is too dark and the sound mix poorly balanced. Dialogue is buried.

Had neither issue with the US release.

Makes me wonder. Was the audio recorded via analog? If not, was the digital sampling that high?

Another words, how do we know that the audio is not being upconverted to 96khz?

I just bought Cold War bd from Hong Kong. It have a cantonese Dolby Truehd 96khz/24bits 7.1 surround and DTS HD Master Audio 7.1. I play the bd on my Sony bdp-s370 together with Onkyo TX-NR808. I choose the Dolby Truehd track because of the 96khz/24bit. There are 2 explosion scene in the movie where it suddenly went mute. The mute duration lasted for 1 second and after that it back to normal. I don't know where went wrong. I switch to DTS HD Master. There are no muting problem here. Still thinking where went wrong?

It IS an upsampled gimmick from 48kHz using Dolby's recent 96kHz upsampling.

I personally don't think upsampled discs should be included in this thread.

There may be something wrong with your settings or something. Chris Botti in Boston and his earlier disc are my reference Blu Rays. The 24/96 audio on his first disc is fantastic. I agree with you on the Police Certifiable. I don't think it was produced well.
