DVD upconversion is the weak link of this player. You should be good to go with everything else if that isn't an issue for you.

The PQ and AQ are more than acceptable for Blu Ray with this player.

Price drop at Wally-World on this player. After I just got one for the original price of course.

If im not mistaken this S360 is FREE at the Big River when you purchase a qualifying Samsung HDTV and the list includes the popular B750 & B650. Of course the Big River has no coupons any longer on the HDTV`s so the prices are higher now. But your still getting this BR player Free.

I'm having problems with my BDP-360. Well maybe its not the player. Have it hooked up to my Samsung b650 and it works great for Blu-ray discs. Just stuck in a standard dvd and the tv is showing no signal. Any ideas?

I never did. Everything I tried load and played flawlessly. Maybe you have a bad disc for Wall Street but I don't have it nor did I ever try that one. Try cleaning it or another copy of that one.

The Sony web site now now says: Estimated availability is late July.

I wonder when this unit will finally ship?

I had a netflix blu-ray disc lock up and cleaning off a fingerprint on it 'fixed' it.

I thought I was pretty smart about audio setups for DVD players until today!!

My Problem:

I just connected a new Sony BDP-S360 BD player to my new Sony LCD T.V. but can't get it to play Dolby Digital "3/2.1" through my older HK receiver which is a DD receiver only (no DTS). I have tried just about everything in the setup menus - to no avail.

The Sony BD player is hooked up to the LCD T.V via HDMI. The optical audio out from the LCD T.V. is connected to the HD receiver. I also have a DVR connected via HDMI to the LCD T.V. With this method of connection my DVR plays DD content just fine. Broadcast content in DD appears as "AC-3 Digital 3/2.1" on the front panel of the receiver. But I can't get the same to appear for the two Blueray disks I have played. In frustration, I connected the player directly to my amplifier (using a switcher) via optical audio and still can't get the BD soundtrack to trigger "3/2.1"

I have been through the setup menus on the player several times and can't get it to work. Any suggestions? Don't all BD movies support plain old DD 3/2.1 just like my older player? What gives.........?

No. Roughly half of all BDs don't have English Dolby tracks. So, the first question is whether the discs you are playing even have Dolby encodes. Check the disc audio menu. Beyond that, what are your player audio settings?

Ah hah!! I was working with another Forum member on my issues today and think you had shown me the light. The movie giving me "fits" is "Australia." The movie previews and the menu for the movie itself are in DD 3/2.1 (as it appears on my receiver). But after the FBI warning - boom - back to 2 channel PCM. I started to suspect it was a software issue, now I know it is.

My receiver is a bit old but still a capable DD receiver. The new BD player sends DD audio from my collection of standard def DVDs just fine. But now I'm getting "mixed" results with Blue Ray. Had I known this, I probably would have stayed away from the format altogether. If D* can make 1080p Dolby Digital available on demand, what is the story with Blue Ray discs? Vent.....

More and more BD discs comes with DTS-HD MA tracks. These tracks automatically contains DTS core 5.1. So no DD 5.1 track is needed. Since your receiver can't even decode DTS, you will missing more than half of the collections. Besides, BD is all about Hi-def Audio codecs in addition to Hi-def video. You're missing half the fun with that acient reveier. You will need a HDMI receiver in order to receive hi-def audio (TrueHD or DTS-HD).

I should have done my homework regarding the lack of English DD for many BD titles. While my receiver is "ancient" I didn't think I would run into a problem setting up this BD player. It would be a major pain (and expense) to replace the receiver with an upgraded one. Besides, almost all broadcast HD content is DD, 1080p movies from D* are DD, and so are movies on HBO. So, until I introduced the new Sony BD player, no problem!!

I will probably return the player to Fry's just because of this one issue alone. While it has its "plus side" - upscaling 480p to 1080p etc. - the no English DD audio on movie titles will kill it for me. With all of the so-called huge data capacity on these discs, why not include an English DD audio track. I believe the "Australia" disk had three or four foreign languages in DD, but no English.........

can you stream netflix or other movies with this(s560)? I am thinking about getting a bd player for my bedroom but wondering if this is really worth it or instead maybe getting another ps3?

I have a connection question and help. Upgrading downstairs: I have the Denon 3808 and just bought Sony HDP-BX2 Bluray and am in-between purchase of new HDMI TV for basement (still have analog TV Sony XBR3 w/composite in).

Upstairs with HDTV XBR-8 everything works fine and wife wants HDMI kept upstairs.

For the time being, is it possible to connect HDMI to AV 3808, while connecting TV to composite and view over composite on TV with Bluray disk player? Or do I need to purchase the new HDTV in order to view Bluray?

Also, does the Sony Bluray HDP-BX2 support 7.1? I can't find any review.

How is your BD player connected to your receiver? Can your receiver support PCM inputs? The BD player can decode all of the BD audio formats internally, and then just send the raw data to the receiver, which even the older ones should support. The settings for this over HDMI are covered earlier in this thread.

I was @ Sony Store yesterday and it was on sale! So I returned this from Future Shop (Canada) then went to Sony Store and bought it!

Just picked up the BX2 (S360) from Costco. Apologize if this workaround has been posted before. When adding this to my Harmony One remote, it did not give me the eject function. I then selected the BX1 instead (which has the eject function). All remote functions work fine and this gets around the eject function not being on the factory remote issue (customize buttons/additional buttons for playing a DVD activity on the Harmony One). While this isn't a Harmony One thread, I can tell you that it will solve just about every remote control problem if you put in the time.

I just bought the S360 (my first Blu Ray Player) and am trying to figure out the best way to set things up. Will an 802.11g wireless connection be fast enough to stream content or is it necessary to go to a 802.11n connection? How much better would it be to have a wired connection into the player? Also, is there any advantage to buying a USB stick with over 1 GB capacity for BD Live?

Hope you're aware that the S360 streams only BD Live content. Very few BD discs have the BD Live feature. I've only rented one so far - Changeling, if I remember correctly. I used a wired connection and most of the BD Live content failed to stream properly. It would stream for a few seconds and then freeze up and refuse to play any further. Since then, I have bought a new (and faster) flash drive for the S360, but I've not had the opportunity to try it out on another BD disc with BD Live. Hint: when shopping for a flash drive, make sure it will fit in the recessed socket on the S360. I doubt if more than 1GB flash-drive capacity is used by the S360, but I'm only guessing.

I am debating getting the S360 or a PS3. I do like gaming but PS3 is twice the cost, now that I see the S360 has been quite a bit cheaper than $300.

Am I right that the S360 will decode DTS-MA and Dolby True HD into 7.1 LPCM (just like the PS3), so that when I am shopping a receiver, I do not need the latest models, only one that understand LPCM vs HDMI?

What is the advantage of bitstreaming DTS-MA/True HD and let the receiver (if it is capable) decode it.. is it better?

At present i have the Panny BD35 that everybody was raving about 8 months ago and it appears to serve my needs and the PQ is allright.

I need your opinions if any members personally think this Sony S360 would be the better choice to use as a primary player in the living room vs. the BD35 feeding a Samsung LN55A950.

I ordered a new Samsung B750 for the bedroom over the 4th weekend from Amazon while the free S360 promo was still going and it will be delivered tomorrow.

The audio side im not concerned with since I still have an older Onkyo receiver that is just 5.1 without even HDMI pass-through.

Just got a free S360 from Amazon and hooked up via HDMI to my Onkyo 805. It plays just fine.
However, after ending a disc and turning off the S360 and returning to CBL/SAT.....I get sound but no picture.
In order to get the picture, I have to turn on the S360. Is there a setting on the S360 so I don't have to leave it turned on? I do not have the Quick Start feature On since the S360's fan will run continuously.
