Mits 65613 died, what to get now (help)...

Well, I think my Mitsubishi 65613 finally bit it after 6 years of solid service. I was looking to get a new tv for Christmas this year anyway, but it looks like the timetable is getting advanced.

I know I'm in the RPTV section of this site, so no doubt I'm going to get more advice relating to that type of set, however, my only real requirements are:
- has to be >=65"
- has to be 1080p like just about every tv available for sale now...

It looks like the Samsung HL67A750 gets some decent praise on this board and if I can find it at Circuit City at closeout for ~$1500 (or even a couple hundred higher for internet pricing), it looks like it would be hard to beat, but what other tv's should I put a radar out for?

TV will go in my HT in the basement so lighting isn't a problem. I'm also not adverse to lcd/plasma but the available sets that are 65"+ are pretty slim and relatively expensive when you weigh the pros/cons with the price difference of a well-regarded DLP.

I'd appreciate any help you could provide as far as consideration sets for my new set

The new Mitsubishi DLPs would be okay also. I like the Samsung HL67A750 series, but only because there are no more bulbs to change. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either the Mits or Samsung (LED) DLPs.

I would be leery about purchasing from Circuit City. All sales are final.

Ah... I've had the time to look into more threads and it's quite the dilemna between the Samsung HL67A750 and Mitsubishi 73736...

can I ask what failed on your previous TV?

Why not try to fix it...its not rocket science.

thats only if you need a 30 day return. the purchase is covered by the normal manufacturers in home 1 yr warranty. plus if you wanted you can get a 3rd party ext warranty like Mack up to 90 days before your manuf. warranty ends.

Either the whole DM module is faulty if I'm not lucky (quoted $800 to fix by a service center) or just the 4 capacitors on the board blew (quoted $200 to fix). The cap fix does seem straight forward and there are step by step instructions so I could attempt to do myself for all of $20, but my track record with soldering isn't too great...

Besides, it's only 480i/480p/1080i so I was planning on getting a new TV for Christmas anyway - this just made me advance my time table. If/when I get a new tv, I'll attempt to fix the old one myself and pass it on to my dad or a friend or something so it has a new home.
