Xbox Live Gold Membership - Official Price Drop! $39.99

This is good, Gold memberships from retailers on sale can now go potentially below $30 a year....

Is that confirmed to be the new price or just a temporary price drop (sale) ?

I could have sworn I read from MS that this is temporary for new and existing Silver members. It's through both the dashboard and via Xbox.com.

More people will be able to stalk you for a cheaper price now.

It's a sale. This isn't news.

I guess you can renew at any time but you'd think they'd have done this about 4 months ago when XBL day 1 subscribers went up for renewal.

"I guess you can renew at any time but you'd think they'd have done this about 4 months ago when XBL day 1 subscribers went up for renewal."

Day 1 subscribers were going to renew for $50 anyway. Why sell them something for 40 bucks when they are perfectly willing to pay $50?

Additionally, renewals through Live for Gold members are still $50 today. This $40 deal is only for Silver.

News to me sale or not.

You can also get 13 month gold cards from both amazon and buy.com for ~$40...

Costco has them for $29.99 as well. This is neither news nor a good deal.

You guys are missing the OP's point. He was saying that if its an official price drop, then the retailers price will go down also.

"He was saying that if its an official price drop"

Which it isn't. There is no valid "point" to be missed.

$30 for 13 months of live isn't a good deal? How so?

"$30 for 13 months of live isn't a good deal? How so?"

You misread. He is saying that the "$40 New Low Price!" that the OP is claiming is neither news, nor noteworthy in price.

Anybody ever tell you your posts come off as extremely arrogant?

And you get the added bonus of not having your credit card permanently stored by Microsoft!

I bought my 13 month card online at BB last month for $32...pretty good deal if you ask me.

"I can always make a second account, which would be silver"

Plus you would get the added bonus of not being able to access your save games. What a deal!

Game saves are not tied to silver or gold status, just the user account which will still exist.

Um, yup. And moving over to a new gamertag in order to save $10 on the Gold subscription would make all the user's old saves inaccessible under the new tag. Because they belong to the old tag.
