I was about to pull the trigger on the S1 until I read his review. I don't need all the extras in the G10 but I do want to have the best display between the two (all things being equal). I guess like many others, I may have to wait for more user reviews before doing my part to stimulate the economy.
I am trying to decide on a X1 or S1, also. The S1 I saw in Sears exhibited the slight green, also. X1 look so bad on their feed I couldn't tell anything about the TV and of course there is no G10 to compare to. Very disappointing because the price is so good, but you can't see or compare the TV with others in the same category.
The Pany sitting next to the X1 was a 50pz80u and it looked great on the same feed, good color, definition, etc.( Kept drawing me back to compare against the new ones) At first I thought it was hooked up differently because it looked so good, but it was on the same feed loop.
The S1 was in another location and the connection was better, but not better than the pz80u and it exhibited than green hue in some of the scenes and didn't look as good as the 50pz80u, but I knew the quality of the feeds was not exactly the same, but the green was there and not on the 50px80u.
They had a new Samsung pn50b450 plasma 720p behind the S1 next to a ln50b550 lcd 1080p. This allowed me to see what a X1 720p plasma could look like if it were connected the same. It also allowed me to compare a 720p plasma to a 1080 p lcd at the same viewing distance to see if I would see the screen door effect at the resolution they were displaying on their feed which is on coaxial hookup on ch 3, although they are not on a HD feed and the 1080p is not a plasma. I could not see a noticeable difference in picture quality on the 2 TVs and I did not see any green hue on them, but they are not Panasonics, which is what I want. So I left buying nothing.
If I could have hooked up the p50x1 and the p50s1 to the cable that the p50pz80u was hooked up to then I could have made some kind of comparison, because the 50px80u really looked great at what was probably a SD feed that looked HD.
Anyway, a lot of owners are happy with there X1's after applying some of DNice's calibrations and I can only imagine how well the S1 will look when he is able to get one to play with. They are saying he has been able to get rid of most of the green and red push and their X1's look great. My decision is whether to go the extra money for the S1 or get the X1, plus a PS3 for less money than what the S1 is costing even on sale. Is the 720p vs 1080 p at 7-9 feet going to matter after it is calibrated with some of the adjustments that DNice has come up with.
Any thoughts or comments. Also thinking about down the road, future proofing if 1080p starts to happen more on SAT and OnDemand movies. How good will standard DVD 480p look upconverted at 1080, etc vs 720?
Thanks in advance for any input.
