You can use photobucket.com or imageshack.com

Just sold my 42PZ80U to a friend, he needed a tv and was about to buy LCD so I put an end to that and sold him my Panny for what I paid for it (I got a really good deal back in september) knowing I was getting either one of these or a Kuro.

Can't wait for the S1 series to start showing up, I miss my panny plasma so much. Too bad they will still have judder, for the price of the ones with 24p playback I might as well get a Pioneer, right?

Would this be why I also cannot see the photos? All I see is red X's here.

Thanks if anyone can advise me; I'm not too tech savvy here folks.

I'm new to plasma, what causes this judder?

it's not just plasma, any 60hz tv has to use 3:2 pulldown to convert 24fps film to 60hz. The side effect of this is telecine judder.

Previous panasonic models used to double the 24fps signal and display it at 48hz, I have never seen it in action but others say it flickered. Pioneer triples it to 72hz and most people say it looks great.

I just got back from Sears and I got a chance to look at the S1 series and I have to say I feel a tad disappointed. Someone else has mentioned that these sets introduce a lot of noise into the picture, and they do!

I noticed this mostly on faces. The S1 was sitting next to an LG plasma and a Sony LCD. The sony had much much deeper blacks but it was experiencing black crush. Curiously, the LG plasma also had a lot of noise in the set but less than the Panasonic. The Sony was very very crisp, you could see a ton of detail on the faces but both plasma's lost a lot of detail to what I would call "white noise". All the tv's at sears were playing the same loop which consisted of a bunch of different things from video games to concerts.

On a bit of a side note, the difference between 1080p and 720p is bigger difference on a 42" set than what most people seem to imply. At about 5 feet back I could tell the difference, but then again, I do like to set close to tvs.
Yes at 5 feet you can fully notice the difference between 720p and 1080p. At 10 feet, unlikely. I don't usually trust these looping feeds to be of very good quality, nor the connections.
I mean, it's sears... what kind of bozos do they have hooking their stuff up?

It's weird because movie theaters use 48hz. Do the new sets now run it at a higher frequency with this new 600hz thing?
I always hate the choppy panning on movies. Even in the theatre, it makes me dizzy.
I went to BB and looked at the 50" S1. I have to say the body is a great improvement. Other than that I couldn't really mess with it as a ladder was in the way!! Oh well, I asked when the 42" would be in and a guy in sales said the 23rd. I want the 42 S1 but does the G10 support 24p? If so I guess I'll wait for it instead.
Plasmas do tend to be a bit noisier than LCDs by virtue of the way they display the picture (I believe it is referred to as PWM noise). However, the point is moot as we are making comparisons with a Sears demo loop.

I have a feeling that Panasonic's 2009 Neo PDPs are going to be a type of display that looks like garbage on the retail sales floor, but once you get it home and do what you need to do with it to get it to look its best, it will look incredible.

Let me guess, the tv was in store vivid mode. Unless you put it on Cinema what you saw really doesn't matter.

I don't know what it is with Sears but I've been to two or three of them where they just had a stretched SD feed hooked up to all the tvs and it obviously looked terrible.

It's not likely that Sears is trying to sabotage the plasmas. It doesn't matter if the sears loop is garbage or if their connections are garbage because they should all be connected the same way and I was comparing three sets right next to each other. If the sears loop is garbage and their connections are garbage the Sony LCD and the Plasma's should all have shown the same white noise, but the Sony showed none.

It just doesn't add up that the Plasma's exhibit white noise. I could understand something like the color being off because its not calibrated, but I've never heard of a setting that reduces white noise. Sure you can put in good cables but then we go back to my first argument, that if the cables in sears were bad then the Sony should of showed similar flaws.

What Santori is saying about plasma's being noiser makes sense to me though, since the noise is something I saw on all of the plasma's to varying degrees that I didn't see in the LCDs. The panasonic though was particularly bad.

*edit*

StinDaWg,

So what you are saying is that the vivid setting in the panasonic introduces a lot of noise into the signal? Can someone who has the set or played with it confirm this?

BB's was set to Vivid as well. Silly.

when any panasonic set is set to "store" mode instead of "home mode it resets to vivid automatically every 3 min......this is per manufacturer

my store is set to a 1080i 26 min loop....but often when the loop is intalled the tech screws up and it is recorded at 480p
post #110 of 7887
I vaguely recall that the THX mode on the pz800 models had significantly less noise than the other modes, so maybe the same applies here.
Prozak:

The TV was in vivid, and has nothing to do with anything regarding the TVs real technical capabilities. This fake mode massively over enhances the sharpness of the signal and one of the common side effects is noise when viewed close up. The sony may have had a more effective torch mode that squelched the noise better, but that is simply a useless torch mode done differently.

Basically with torch mode the display is drawing its own picture on the fly, based on some of the real info from the source. But the source is completely butchered.

It is also common for quality of feeds to vary widely within the same store.

Obviously the set needs to be evaluated with the proper 'home' viewing modes. I think we are all expecting a very high performing display that hopefully improves further on the well-regarded pz80 series of last year.

damnit, the Pics wont show for me....
So telecine judder...is that when the picture sort of bobs around like it has epilepsy? I mostly notice that in the rolling credits and other slow moving things. I currently have a tiny ass 27 inch CRT. It doesn't bother me too much right now but I do notice it. I can imagine it's much more noticeable on an HDTV with the larger picture.

The S1 in Europe has 5120 shades of grey, 4096 on the X1, and 6144 on G10 upwards
. But the Europe specs can be different to USA, eg. X1 sub-field drive in Europe is only 400Hz and the S1 is not Neo-PDP panel.

Sears.....

Just happened to be there yesterday to try and see one of these new Pannys. Not here yet(one of the few drawbacks to living in the boonies . While there I overheard this conversation.

Sales Rep. "May I help you"
Customer "We are looking for a TV"
(of all the questions to be asked to really help the customer. this is the one she came up with)
Sales Rep. "Do you have a brand in mind?"
Customers "We have heard that both that Sony and Samsung is best. What do you think?"
Sales Rep. "Oh I would chose the Sony"

I walked out then. As they say "We get what we deserve"

I thought the same about the noise on the Panny until the Panny internal ad came up. The one that talks about Viera link and 600 sub-field. That looked perfect! no noise at all. So i assume its the source.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. The only modes that are acceptable to watch on Panasonics are Cinema and THX.
