Looks like they had a BW Carada in this review.

Anyone try these? Might be my first stop.

DI is on.

I'm not disappointed because I wasn't expecting it to have really deep blacks. Most of the professional reviews I read before I bought it said that the lack of really deep blacks was one of its weaknesses.

Also considering a W6000 purchase, likely a refurb as well. I much appreciate all the info provided in the thread regarding the unit, not least of which is the refurb offer.

Note that the 10% discount via the promo code mentioned in an earlier post doesn't work for me on the latest refurb offer. It does work for a new unit, though. I tried different browsers and on multiple PCs, but no discount. Perhaps the new refurb offer is a bit different? To quote what may be significant on Benq's current refurb offer: "Guarantee 100% new lamp!"

By the way, do the refurbs also have a 30 day money-back guarantee? I did not find any info stating or suggesting that they don't.

Thanks.

Nope, refurbs do not come with 30 day money back. Wish it did and I would jump all over it.

Thank you. Confirmed via chat with a Benq agent, though agent could not provide definitive info published on their web site, just a partial copy of some other attributes of their warranty (acknowledged that info on web site should be updated).

Husker,

Did you pickup the Chief mount? If yes, where from?

I should be getting the threaded pipe and universal piece locally, then the rpa and ceiling plate from bhphoto or some tech 4 less place. Will update when I get it done.

Order a refurb one yesterday with one of the older 10% coupon but it did not say 100% new lamp.

Two different BenQ reps, one via chat, one via phone told me that the W6000 all get new lamps on the refurbished, but the lower BenQ models usually do not.

Mine got delivered yesterday. I won't have much time until the end of next week...but then I'll do some Optoma HD72 vs BenQ 6000 screen shots after I find a Chief mount.

If the refurb that I ordered comes with a new lamp that would be a huge bonus When I ordered it did not mention anything about new lamp, like it did last week when they had it in bold letters.

Updated my build thread-link in my sig with pictures comparing my Optoma HD72 to the BenQ W6000.

Very impressed so far, still need to tweak the picture and Chief mount x axis a bit.

May have to end up mounting it behind the soffit if the wife complains enough about it being too low.

Thanks to BIGBADDABOOM and mjg100 for their calibration suggestions, I would recommend checking out projectorreviews.com as well for their suggestions.

Once I get some unripped material I'll post those as well. Nice projector at the refurb price! Bulb had zero hours and firmware was 1.01.

I'm in the market for a refurbished w6000 from BenQ. An issue that's been holding me up is the reliability. I had a PE7700 and loved it, BUT had three lamp/firmware issues and finally a dead fan. What has your experience been with the w6000?
so far so very good dude..only problem is slight fan noise...but hey it's very bright so that must be expected i think

I think the audio noise is acceptable. Unless you are sitting directly under it, or have a very quiet audio/film on, you shouldn't hear it.

i sit under mine husky baby....no problems here dude

I also had a PE7700. BenQ provided great service but sending it in 3 times was not fun.

Have a W6000 for 20 months and it has been solid. Big upgrade from the 7700.

Also following this thread would indicate that the 6000 has been rather trouble free.

Hey Joe!

Man time flies. 20 months on the W6k for you.....we are getting older too fast.

Sorry to bring this up again - but how are we finding the DI ( DynamicBlack )?

How often to you see it pumping?

Is it better than the W5000's auto-iris?

Does it blow out highlights at all, or does it only act on the black level and always keep the white level the same?

Thanks in advance...

i find blacks superb haggis baby...1000 times better than the sanyo i changed from dude

Ok, getting ready to mount the projector but I screwed up in setting up the distance from the screen when I finished the basement. I had put in 2x4" where I was planning to initially put the projector but now the screen is closer than originally intended. I have another 2x4 about 2 feet back but that is where my power outlets are, which are dead center. Can I mount the project off center by about 4 to 6" inches or is that too much for the horizontal lens shift?

The screen in question is a 51" (H) x 120" (W) 2:35 and I am going to use manual lens shift to go between 2:35 and 16:9 modes.

Thank You.

I know the perfect iris settings have been talked about a lot on here. I really prefer the picture with the DI on as apposed to off but I find that it can be bothersome when you have a video that goes from dark to bright scenes quickly as you can see it adjusting.

For example I was watching Master and Commander yesterday and the DI got so annoying that I actually had to turn it off.

Could someone tell me the best iris settings and an idiots guide on how to change it. You can PM me if you prefer.

Thanks,

Mike

I am going to install a Dragonfly 106 inch AT screen in my basement theater.
http://www.snapav.com/p-334-df-sl-106-aw.aspx

I am interested in the W6000. Can someone tell me what the optimal throw distance is expected to be? I need to have a good idea of how I need to mount the projector? (how far from the screen and is there a particular height that it needs to be at?)

See attached floor plan with location of screen and projector.

And I have a beam which has been framed around with studs. The closest stud to the screen is 6'3" in height from the ground and 12' 4" feet away from the screen. With drywall, the drywall will be about 12' 3" away from the screen.

I have placed a circle where the optimal spot for mounting will be (about 12 feet away from the screen). Is 12 feet a good distance?

If I have to go further back from the screen, then I will be in area that is framed out by the studs around the beam. Around 14 feet away (where I placed the X), there is room to mount the projector, but it will be much lower (you have some idea based on the stud being 6' 3" in height) My contractor says its probably too low to mount the projector where the square is.

So is the Benq W6000 still an option for me with a 106 inch screen?

Your contractor wasted many precious inches in that box frame around the beam and duct work. I would rip it out and redo. Span the bottom with a piece of 3/4 plywood not 2x4s hanging below the beam. Also the side facing the screen could be pushed back about 4 inches from what I can see. You need the lens at 12'6". for that size screen.

BR if you mount it on the other side of the duct with the lens hanging just below the duct how far will it be from the screen? I assume that projector has vertical lens shift.

In a nutshell do greyscale for warm in the service menu. Then measure the saturation for all colors at 75%, put those values in the "measured" fields. Then you put the values for rec. 709 75% saturation in the "desired" fields. Make sure you save after each value is entered. IIRC you do that in the ISF menu but you may have to do it in the service menu. Measure the values again and if they're still off manually adjust the "desired" values to move colors to their correct position on the cie chart. Luminace is a little harder and requires a worksheet from the calibration thread to get the correct values.

I have tried so many times using your directions, but the picture is always washed out. Maybe all benq 6000 do not respond the same. Ifs night and day are not nearly as good as user1 except in dark scenes i use ifs day.

Is it possible to remove the feet of the Benq W6000.
I am using chief RPAU mount. If I use to small screws install the arms that hold the projector one of the feet of benq comes in the way.

Let me know if anyone has safely removed the feet. My other option is to use the longer screws that are also provided with the mount.
