I went ahead and purchase this projector for what I believe is a great price. I already have the JVC-HD250 so I will have to compare side by side.

Just hooked this puppy up tonight and watched a bit of a flick and played mortal kombat. the iris is very quiet. the picture is awesome and sharp. what a difference between this and my old mitsu 52" dlp that was 7 years old and died this month. the firmware......1.02. manufacture date is September 2011. new lamp. my screen only cost me 20 bucks. 49x89 is the size but i think i'm 2" too wide. i can see why having a grey screen might help with the blacks a bit but i'm quite satisified. my wife even asked me why bother buying an actual screen like i was going to buy. even with the kitchen lights on behind the living room, the pic was still nice. i didn't mess with any settings so the batman shot is straight out of the box. the bottom of pic might look funny but i didn't pause it on the right spot.

Hi all! I picked up a W6000 for my first theater, and I am trying to figure out how the lens shift works. The issue I have is the projector will be dead center, but 18" below the top of a 63" tall screen. I would prefer to shelf mount it and have the projector up right, but I don't know if the lens shift will extend far enough in that situation.

Does anyone know if I can shelf mount the projector in this situation, or must it be upside down? If it is upside down, does anyone have any clever solutions to wall-mounting and being upside down?

Thanks,

Eric

Easy. If you are shelf mounting and want it upside down, just screw out down onto a board like usual and flip the board over and attach to wall. Based on your numbers I think either situation works but on phone so unsure.

You won't have any problem. You could even mount it above the top of the screen. (1/8 screen height above the top, if I remember correctly.)

Already answered by Karlsch but I'll second it. I have my pj installed similar to what you propose right side up on a shelf, center of lens is down 9" from the top of a 60" tall screen at throw distance of about 17 feet. No problem.

How does this projector do with the lights on? I'm looking for a budget projector to use strictly for TV watching and occasional gaming. Looking to do a 110" screen either grey material or black diamond. Pretty much I'm just looking for a projector that can light the screen up nice to watch football on Sundays when I have friends over and basic TV viewing.

Thank you Hughman and Karl! I am not intimately familiar with lens shift, so that really set me at ease. Carpet and furniture this week... Getting close.

the lens shift on the benq is pretty nice. doubt it'll ever slip. i liken the joystick thing to the PSP stick. same type of principle.

Im in the market for a projector. I was going to but a used rs25, but the guy didn't end up selling it. My initial plan was to go with a mits hc4000 or a epson 8350. The hc4000 was so razor sharp but offered no placement flexibility. The epson has no color pop and seems dull. I stumbled across the w6000 while reading projector reviews and it seems like it might be for me and the price is down a ton from what it originally was. My only concern is it is 2 years old, and had issues with the iris. How would this pj compare to the hc4000 as far as sharpness and color? I will be doing a bunch of gaming on it and movie watching. And plan on a 110" screen. Any help is appreciated.
gamewise it is pretty nice. my daughter has played a bunch of games on it already and i haven't really seen any lag with it at all with the ps3 or the Wii. W6000 is quite sharp. can't say anything about the hc4000 though. good luck with the decision. in my few days of owning it, i'm quite happy with it. i was also looking at the 8350 too but the convergence and bulb issues steered me away from it. plus i love dlp.

"W6000 is quite sharp"

Its razor sharp the rumour on the street

Is the image washed out with the lights on though? I know my JVC projector once the lights are on the image is pretty much gone but also it isn't nearly as bright as a BenQ. I would like it to be bright enough so it looks like I'm watching a big lcd/plasma. I know blacks etc.. won't come close and I'm not worried about that. I seen Benq also has another model which is 4000 lumens..
You might want to pair this projector with 2.4 gain screen for plasma like experience. As this projector can be mounted near the center of the screen, it is suitable for high gain screen.
i use mine with a kitchen light on behind the projector and also for stuff during the day and it's watchable. i just don't like having a light on in the path of the light. sure it's a bit washed out and the blacks won't be there but that's not what i notice when watching movies or playing games. with nightfall, the picture is outstanding. one thing i noticed is that if the source material is crummy the projector will show the blemishes. or as i read somewhere on here, "warts and all." for daytime viewing an hp screen would work quite well. i just have the doable board up and stills work fine enough. the light output works well for ambient light.
The room this PJ would be going is fully light controlled. I want a 110" screen and am looking at a fixed frame da-lite. Just unsure if I need HC, matte, what gain etc. This will be replacing my 3 year old Panny plasma and I will use it for all my viewing.
Correct me if I'm wrong but a HP screen needs to be mounted low and near eye level.. Right? My only concern with that is when people are over watching football games etc.. And they're consistently getting up walking around I don't want the projectors light path to be in the way and get shadows on the screen.

Grouper8, have you had a chance to compare these two PJs? I would be very interested on knowing your thoughts since you have the opportunity to see them side by side.
Just ordered the pkg from Visual Apex. Since my room is not done, I will not permanently mount the PJ for at least a month from now. Should I take it out and fire it up to do a function check? If so, are there any specific problem areas or isues I should be looking for in a new PJ? Otherwise, I plan to just leave it in the box until time to mount. Thanks for the tips.

Not yet. Fed-ex schedule to deliver monday. Probably take a few days after that.
Well I am going to pull the trigger on this projector. PP said if I do not like it or see rainbows it can be returned, just have to keep it under 4 hours runtime. If for some reason it doesn't work out ill probably get an 8350, but from what I've read I think im going to be happy.

Any recommendations for a good 110" fixed frame screen in a light controlled room. Id like to stay under 800 if possible.

The vapex are easy to assemble, takes about 20 minutes with two people. A gray screen will give the impression of deeper black levels.

I found the velvet coating to be below par even taking the low price into account. Their technical support person responded... quote it's made for a dark room and for people who don't mind a few frame and screen material issues. The two issues for me were the velvet coating had different matting (appeared flattened in areas) and would reflect differently along with the joints exposing bare metal where the coating was either missing or the pieces didn't fit together nicely.

On the plus side it's less than half your budget and I had no problem putting it together myself (several times - as I received numerous replacement pieces all of the same quality/issue).

Carada would be roughly in your budget and they offer a 100% guarantee and were extremely nice when I worked with them. Plus the material snaps into the frame which is much better than the rods and clips... as the clips can tear the material in some cases if you aren't careful or slide them.

+1 for Carada! David Giles is great to work with.

Helped a friend install one in his dedicated room, I didn't see any of the issues you've mentioned. I'm sure the Carada is better made, it should be at triple the price.
The Grandview's aka Monoprice should also be sturdier, haven't messed around with them yet.

I think it's closer to double. It's nothing to do with being sturdy rather fit and finish is what defines the differences. I liken it to whether you want a new car at $800 or a used car (with a few nicks) for $400. They both have their buyers. Going from Carada to Stewart (I have owned two) is triple or so and the differences are extremely diminished but still there.
