I know moving to 1080p is an improvement, just curious about everything else.
OK guys here's the deal....after a couple hours or so with the W6000, I can answer these questions. Please keep in mind that I have only sampled a couple movies and a couple games. Here's what I've briefly sampled:
Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies
Resident Evil 5 Mercs
The Day After Tomorrow
Macross Frontier(1st episode only)
Here's is my reaction after sampling the above...
My jaw particularly hit the floor when I saw Resident Evil 5 running on my PC at 1920x1080. It went from an exceptional looking game on my PE8720 to an ASTONISHING
looking game on my W6000!
In a nutshell, contrast and brightness destroys
the 8720. Sharpness is a given due to the increase in resolution, but at 1280x720, I'd say they're both about the same, with W6000 maybe being a tad sharper(you have to remember, the PE8720 is an incredibly
sharp unit even at 1280x720).
All in all, these are just some very preliminary impressions. I still have A LOT of films and games to test out. I'm going to be happily busy today
By the way, question to gamers out there....to eliminate the 1080p receiver issue I mentioned above, I am running a DVI-->HDMI cable directly from my PC to my W6000. Just out of curiosity, as a gamer, does bypassing a receiver altogether generally reduce input lag at all?
