Center Channel Being Effected by Audio/Component Stand Being This Close???

I'm not sure where I went wrong on measurements or understanding the measurements that were listed when I order this stand. Until now I thought it was going to be a good 6+ inches below / lower than the center channel. A friend stopped by when I was putting the stand together today and after seeing the height of it the first thing he said was it is to close and is going to affect the center channel. That it being that close under it and sticking out as far as it does it is going to have an immediate reflection point. Me, I'm far from an audiophile. However he is that friend that knows all, we all have that friend right! LOL

So my question is....is he right, or not even close? Is it going to affect the center being the height and depth that it is right under it (nothing will be going on the top).

Any comments, feedback, suggestions, etc would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

Put the center on the stand and pull it to the front so that there's no shelf exposed in front of it.

Honestly, I would get a new stand before doing that. The bracket is already there, the holes, etc.

As is, will it affect?

How would a new stand change anything? Honestly, like Kal stated, pull the center forward to the front edge.
You could try an acoustic panel made to fit the top shelf, something to control the reflections.

I think the speaker is mounted on the wall or something and he doesn't want to pull it off the wall and sit on the stand. In the closer pics, it does look like it is hovering. If that's the case, move the stand somewhere else.

As it is, sound will bounce off the top surface and screw with the overall soundstage. To the point where even non-audiophiles will hear it sound funny.

Or get a new stand/take the top shelf off that stand. If nothing is going on top, you don't need the surface there anyway.

Yes, just like the L&R are. Center is on the wall about 4" above it

Do you have to find out before turning your system on and listening? If not, play some things with the stand in place. Listen. Move the stand away entirely, play some things, listen. Put the stand back but move it out. Listen some more. Put a rug or blanket over the stand. Listen. It will be fun. You'll be educating your ears and finding out about the stand at the same time.

Then get rid of the stand completely. Anything bulky there will affect the sound.

Now, you may be more concerned with the appearance than the sound (not trying to beat you up), so try it out and see if you can live with the stand.

Can you put the stand off to the side? You may need some longer interconnects, but at least you can keep the stand, etc.

We did a demonstration of this effect at CEDIA a few years back. Placing the center channel a few inches back from the stand...dialogue intelligibility was lost. Even with the front edge of the stand, dialogue intelligibility was back.
