Philips DVDR3575H weird playback from Hard disk problems!?! help please!

Hi - my name is Thom - this is the first time I've seen this message board and thought it would be the best place to ask about the problem I've been having with my philips dvd recorder.

Ok so I bought one of these second and hand and all seems well apart from when I try to watch something I've recorded onto the hard drive from live TV.

I get a load of broken red and green blocky sorta lines and outline stuff and just outright run through the middle of the picture.

I have been on the phone to philips support and to try and diagnose the problem they had me copy a film I had downloaded to the hard drive to see if I still had the same problem, and I don't.

This problem only happens when it's playing something it has recorded from TV.

Has anyone run into this? My friend brought his round to my house and it works fine so I know it's not the leads/signal or anything. Is it a setting? is it a serious fault?

Yeah, like I said it was connected correctly.

We plugged in and unplugged both units multiple times trying to figure it out but only one of them was doing weird stuff.
