The Great Southern Sub Shootout

It's over and done with. A great time was had by all and all we have now is some very good reviews and some measurements to follow.

Spoke with Ricci on PM and he's more than likely up for it with some of his drivers, amps and measurement equipment when we get a date.

I'm located in Murfreesboro, TN just outside of Nashville. Good central southern location for anyone wanting to make the drive. Only ~2.5 hours from Atlanta and 40 minutes from Nashville.

I'm new to the whole "meet" thing, so any input would be appreciated. I would like to limit the amount of subs/attendees ONLY because from reading posts on Warpdrv's GTG thread it seems that there was so much woofage that it was hard to get a good feel observation of everything there.

Oh, one more thing, I'm also a big BBQ buff, so I would imagine I'll have to make some good pulled pork for the day too. I've received high praise for my Q so I'll see what I can do to get everyone fed too.

I have an ED A7S-450 with LT1300 and a DIY Shiva-X in 6.3CF ported box using Nady XA100 pro amp. If the date works out for me I could bring one. Not sure that I will be available the first two weekends of April. I think that is spring break for my kids and we will be in Louisville and Indianapolis.

These GTG's are a really great time.... I really wish we would have had more time...
Even after the small amount of time we put in, I was exhausted at the end of it... There was alot of preperation involved though, more so then it prob normally would have been.

Make sure you have plenty of back up plans for any and all scenarios that would come up.... Lots of cables and lots of amps...

Good advice. Will have to save the drunken meet for a football game. I will only have the ep2500 but I would think someone would bring an amp or two along. I will have to hit up monoprice and stock up on extra cabling. Maybe a couple long extension cables for outdoor testing if we get the option.

I would like to join the meet. I could possibly bring a sub I am mocking up with 2 epic 12's. I could also bring the itech 8000. If the dates work out and I am free, one of my friends says he is willing to make the trip with me. I will see as we go along.

I could see where that could be a big problem. I very seldom drink so I do not have any problem with that rule.

Since I have had kids I don't drink at all really either. They make me want to sometimes but I refrain.

Wow. I didn't think anyone would consider driving all the way from new Orleans. Ever been up this way? Have heard its a long but a nice drive.
Will have to look up the specs on your subs too. Do you have them off hand? I am at work now on my phone so I have no winisd to model it in now.

John, that would be great. I saw that the majority of the good reviews from the WI meet was of you and your subs. I wish I had the knowledge that you do when it comes to subs. I will let you know as soon as we have a firm date.

I'm in of course. A mere 2.5hr jaunt down the expressway. I may jog down with my equipment on my back.

I can bring the usual...I might even have a few new toys by then, who knows. I just bought a Crest PL8002, so I'd probably bring that for sure. It's a significant step up from a CE4000 in power. (tested by Binks at his pro amp shootout).

Robert,

That'd be awesome if you could make it, with an IT8000 no less. I'd definitely bring the big drivers out to play with that haus.

John,

Something else involving the AV15 drivers is probably in order, but one of those TD18+H's 30hz pro bins would be stellar.

I'm interested, but with school - it'd have to be on the weekend. I'm in Chattanooga, so not a far drive. I'm not sure if I'd have anything to show - depending on the time, a smalled 3 ft^3 sealed box with 2 Mach5 MAW15's on an LT circuit. That's only if I can get the second MAW in time. For now I just have one.

I'll speak to the dad.

I'm open the weekends of the 11th and the 18th in April. I already have prior commitments with one of my bands on the 4th and 25th.

+1 on Warp's comments on drunken people. A few beers throughout the day is fun times. A whole 12 pack in about 4 hrs + expensive equipment and an irritated host is not!

Man, would like to attend one of these. I have not seen any around the Boston area though. I also have to figure in if an area is wheelchair accessible (if I ever saw one). I may just have to think about one at my place but I wonder if the family room where all my stuff is would be big enough. I think I would like to hear a mix of subs and speakers if I ever did one.

Warp, I sure hope no one broke rule number one at your pad.

I'm looking at those dates as good possibilities. Got to check with the wife to make sure we don't have anything going on those dates. The 18th would be good. Would be a good excuse for no birthday party for me (19th and have always disliked birthday parties).

This sounds like something I might be able to attend.

I could bring one of my subs. I would also like to whip a sub together using 2 of JJ's new AV15 drivers. I've PM'd him with some questions in his AE forum, but I guess he doesn't visit there very often?

Might be cool to compare an AE driven 2X15 sealed against a 1X15+PRs system.

Question: If RC brings the Crown IT8K, will there be enough juice/proper outlet to supply it? If not, will there be amplification with enough kick to drive my subs/Ricci's XXX, etc?

Anyway, I'll keep up here until the date is set.

Bummer to hear that. Hopefully he had the courtesy to offer to pay for any damage.

No worries about power Bosso. I got ya covered. I'll bring my Crest PL8002 PFC which should be on the way to me right now. Bink's tested it at over 1300w per channel at 4ohms, at 20hz, with a sagging 98v power supply. the rating from Crest is 1400w. 4 ohm bridged is rated at 4500w.

BTW that'd be awesome if you can make it.

All these awesome GTG's happening now but they are all on the wrong side of the pond.

I'm feeling mighty lonely in California.

Again, wish I could make it to the party. I would bring my quad RLp18's too if I could.

I did get my EP2500 in yesterday, but I'm running through the standard consumer->pro level problems. Ground loop and low gain. In haste I went out to radioshack and got a cheap ground loop isolator. I was amazed that it worked. Very cheap looking. Completely passive though. Still having a gain issue and I'm trying to fix it with stuff I have laying around here. Have tried a small dj mixer with phono pre-in, but it's got bass and treble controls. No way defeat it. No direct sound through that. It did fix the gain and it'll get very loud, just sounds like SH!T. I'm going to see if I can find just a standalone phono pre-amp to see if that works at all. If that doesn't work I'm looking at an 1124p feedback destroyer. I've read that they would fix all the problems I've had in one whack.

Don't know about the power coming from the wall. I know I have a couple GFI outlets in the room and a couple that I think are going straight into the breaker box. I may need to start reading up on some stuff to catch up with all you guys. From the sounds of it I'll be the most inexperienced one here. But hey, great learning experience for me.
