I am starting to think that I am going to leave there thinking my sub sucks.

I had asked the league to change our soccer teams game on the 18th to a 9:00AM start since the schedule had not been released yet, but they did not change it. The game does not start until 10:15. That would put me getting to the GTG to late so I am going to miss this one game. Only game that I will have missed in four years. I have asked my assistant coach to coach this game for me, so it looks like I will get to the GTG on time.

Brandon you first...

Your sub uses speaker wire correct? Do you bridge your EP2500 into it? Is 50ft of 10/3 enough to get 220v for the big amps into the listening room? What's the deal on the 13W7, confirmed ,or not? If so, did you decide sealed hopefully? Any word from John?

Speaker wire yes. I run it now at 8 ohms series into a single channel of the EP2500 which gives me about 700 watts. That seems to be enough for me, but I'm going to throw it a parallel 2 ohm single channel load just for that tiny inkling of extra headroom.

50 feet of 10/3 is more than enough length for the wire from the 220v. The plug is literally 2 or 3 feet from the door.

I'm sending an e-mail back to Carl Kennedy from JL to see if he's still on for this. He did say he was going to be on the road till the beginning of this week so we'll see what he says. Sealed is the way to go on this sub for our sake. Easy to make and move around.

No word from John either, but I'll PM him again. I think he's been busy lately as I've not seen him post that much in the forums.

It just so happens that Ivan Beaver from Danley sent me a pm asking if we would like to have some stuff brought down. The TH Spud, TH50, and possibly the CS30. I'd love to have these here since I've had no experience with horn subs other than bad models at nightclubs.

I'm in the same boat you are. This is going to be like being offered $10,000 bottle of scotch to have just a few sips from and never have it again. Do you take the red pill or blue pill? Mmmmmmwelllll, Maybe just a sip!!!

Way to put your obsession first. I feel like the ring leader at an AA meeting that's taking his group out for drinks. Horrible.

On to other things not sound related. I'm in full agreement with Ricci and Warpdrv about no one getting drunk. I'd rather not have any unnecessary incidents. With that being said, I'm not against having a couple microbrews. I'm not a big drinker myself, but love to try beers I've never had. If anyone wants to bring a few they're welcome. As I said in the first post I'll make a good bit of bbq with some sides. It'll last most of the day and I'll try to have it done by 11 or 12. That way we'll have some food stuffs throughout the party. Anyone have any food allergies? Anyone vegetarian? Normally I'd just make fun of you and say I like eating food that had parents, but I'll hold back my sour yet comedic comments for the meet. I'll even cook up some food for you if you're not into meat.

Don't make me feel more guility than I already do. I commited to this GTG long before I even knew that I would have a soccer conflict. Heck the league still has not even gotten schedules out to the coaches. As far as BQ, no problem, it is all good. ME LIKE.

I would like to add, Thank you Brandon for being a willing host for this event. It is shaping up to be a good one.

One good thing about my subs. The only thing that shows on the ED is the grill and the Shiva is in an all black room so I do not have to worry so much about finish or scuffs. If I scuff up the Shiva, I just have to touch it up. That helps when it comes to transporting.

The BIC H100, Outlaw LFM-1 and ED A7S450 are all of the commercial subs, I going to assume that they have all of the HPF or other protections they need built in.

mjg100,

Are you bringing the Nady 1100 for your Shiva? Do you bridge it into it? Do you use speaker wire?

Robert,

Are the Epic 12's going to be there and if so are they going to be sealed? Will they be wired for speakon, or bare wire? What load will they present (how will they be wired) both drivers on a single terminal in one box, or 2 seperate terminals? I'm wondering what amp we should use on them. If they are presented as a single load we can use one channel of the IT8000 or another big amp.

I think I'm going to bring a PL9.0 and just leave the CE4000 at home. We can run 2 subs off of the PL9.0 and the IT8000 both, with channels 1 & 2 set different for them if needed. The CE4000 would've had to have been bridged into the big stuff. After looking at everything I will be bringing, I may just bring a rack for some of it. I'll be bringing a Peavey PV14 mixer to run levels with.

QSC PL9.0
Crest 8002
Peavey PV14
Behringer Xenyx 1202
DCX2496
Rane PE-17
Laptop with REW
Calibrated ECM8000
XXX 18
LMS 18
50ft 10/3 220v extension
Galaxy CM140
speakon cords and other cables out the wazoo...

I do not have a box for the subs at this moment, but I will throw something together- just throw it together with nothing fancy. I am thinking of 4 cube box for both drivers. If someone has some suggestions, I will build it to those specs. I need to know soon because it is tax time and lots of work on other fronts. Give me some ideas and I will build a test box.

Thanks,

Robert

Robert, as far as particulars I'll have to run the numbers on the sub to see what looks good, but I will say to make it as easily as possible. This won't be a beauty contest, so bare MDF will be more than accepted.
Oh, I do have a car box for 2 12's I picked up a while ago in the trash.
Single layer and no bracing. I could bulk it up a little and maybe get away with it. I will post some pictures of it and get some volume measurements on it. I may be avle to get it to work.
Any ideas on volume for both drivers? I could add lots of bracing to the internals of the box in order to cut the volume.

That would work even better. Don't break your neck trying to get a box together. Simplistic will lose no points in our eyes.

If someone doesn't eat meat and they are at a subwoofer GTG there are problems, lol. No food allergies here with me or my friend. If anyone gets too crazy I can always stick em with an IV .
I am going to bring my cm 140 to see how it measures compared to Ricci's

Thanks,

I have heard from a paramedic friend that an IV works great for a hangover. Seems a bit extreme for me, but makes sense that it would work.
will the 'southern style' gtg be webcast? will it be recorded and posted on youtube? at a minimum, please take and post lots of pics. this is shaping up to be one of the greatest subwoofer gtg's of all time.

all you guys are awesome!

There will be tons of pictures taken from st least a couple cameras. Kip from Alabama says he will bring his digital slr camera that will take some cool shots. I will have my camera and ricci has a friend that may come and video. I would love to webcast this, but it may take away from some of the listening. I think it would be best to just take pics, maybe a little video, and report the status afterwards.

I'm starting to worry about whether all of this will fit in your house.

Warm up the kitchen! TH50 is my vote. I don't think that we need all 3. We honestly have too much stuff already but you don't say no if Danley says "hey you want to borrow a TH50?"! More info here? Will someone from Danley come with the sub (Mike, Ivan?)?

Looks like we are going to need that few hours of set-up Friday night Brandon...

I love BBQ...And microbrew's...6 beers throughout a 10hour day= OK. 12 beers in 3 hours = Not OK.

Yes my friend Chris (Mongo) will probably video the event. For anybody wondering what happened with the SE WI GTG video, it will be posted on Youtube at somepoint. He is really busy with projects for paying clientel at the moment and has a big backlog. I haven't even seen it. It'll be up at some point.

Thanks,

If you wanted to slap something together, I'd go with between 4-5cu ft sealed for both drivers. Use some Birch ply. Quick and Dirty. I got the wood cut for the LMS cube 22" just yesterday. It won't be pretty either. Functional is key...

For the Shiva I will bring the Nady XA1100, RCA to 1/4" phono and 25 feet of 14ga. speaker wire with banana plugs. All I will need for the Shiva is a HPF and LFE source. The Shiva is wired up 4 ohm and I use one 500 watt channel of the Nady. I have some cheap RCA splitters if needed. Just let me know. [/quote]

Thanks for the feedback. No worries about HPF's for the A7S-450. It's a sealed 18" (probably amp limited too). She'll be fine. Dude bring whatever. Cords, RCA splitters, etc. Throw em in a bag with your name on it. Worst case is we don't need any of it and it sits in the car.
Random thoughts...

I'd like to basically do a quick 15min SQ session (2 channel CD) at moderate (matched volume for each sub) followed by a quick 15min session with 5.1 LFE movie tracks also at the same matched volume. Then I'd like to jack up the volume substantially for a "see what she can do" kind of deal (for those bigger subs and owners who are down). Take notes during all of this.

With this said I think that the Bic H100 will be the sub most limited on clean output there. I propose that we run the Bic at a level that is pretty high, but where it is still comfortable and not distressed. Then we use that as the control volume level to run all of the rest of the subs for the listening tests, since they should all handle it no problem. The stuff like the Worx, Danley TH50, and big 18's will be barely breaking a sweat. We can push those harder after we do the moderate level listening. (No offense Vili. Just physics man. One of the smaller drivers, small enclosure, small amp, tuned fairly high, compared to everything else.)
Brandon, the hole hangover thing is generally caused by your body being dehydrated. IV replaces fluids in your body so no dehydration=no hangover (most of the time).

There are no microbrews here in Martin, but I can bring whatever. Barbecue is sounding good to me.

Excellent Ricci, let me know if there is anything you need me to bring to the GTG to help out with your cube. Just curious, is there a reason you can't use a car audio box to hold the LMS for SQ reasons or merely aesthetics?

I'll bring my digital camera too and can post pics on photobucket.

I can bring my 10ft RCA cable and a splitter I use. The only amp I have is for my buttkickers, but can bring it if need be.

Ivan asked if we would be interested. He said if it works out he will drive a van up with the subs. It does look like it will work out, but I am waiting for his reply on a couple questions I had.

I am good for however long we need Friday night. If you get down at around seven I won't have to start the bbq up till about midnight. If I am getting about 5 hours of sleep I am good. That's what I get daily.
Sounds good, let me know if you need anything. Not 100% sure if I will drive down the night before and stay with the guy thats coming with me or if I will just leave at 6am on Saturday.

Ok guys, here is what we need to do as a group between now and the meet. We need to decide as a group beforehand about 15 minutes worth of movie clips and 15 minutes worth of music so we can have a standard set of material that we will be listening to with all the subs. It will give us a straight across the board idea of what each sub sounds like. It will also make the day flow better so we can get equal time with each subwoofer. We should also think of about 15 minutes more stuff for louder listening. The first movie clips should be more quality oriented. Same for the music. The loud movie clips should be very bass heavy stuff like wotw. This will give us about 45 minutes with each sub and up to 15 minutes with each to set up. The main setup will be done by me and ricci on Friday night so we can hopefully just slide each sub into the correct spot and plug it in.

So let's start the nominations. I will throw some on here in just a bit.
WOTW pod emerge scene
Kung Fu Panda Kadoosh scene
Star Wars Episode I pod race scene
Master and Commander cannonball scene
LOTR Balrog scene

I am more of a movie guy than music, so I'll let you guys nominate that but here are my picks for a movie compilation, although they are somewhat universal on the forums.

I will second the pod race and pods emerge and will also throw in the cloverfield scene where the monster first starts messing with the city. Those all seem like the extreme bass scenes.
I like the spear cutting the chain and then hitting the ground scene in Kung Fu Panda better than the Skadoosh scene. Both occur 20 to 30hz, but I get 4 to 5 more db with the spear scene. It is about 32 minutes in.

Just run the whole beginning chase scene from Bolt--great mix of bass scenes

I played that for my son the other day. I was surprised at the amount of bass in that movie. I need to listen to it at a louder level to compare it to some of the other good bass movies. I have it on DVD.
