"Castle" on ABC HD - Page 35

I think it would be refreshing if they went a total different direction next season such as Becket (and Castle) opening a P.I. company or something. There is nothing that says this *must* be a "typical cop" show. Evolve it a bit and take some chances. Entering it's 5th season there are probably only 2-3 seasons left before they give it the boot so why not? Plus it may help it avoid the Moonlighting curse if they do something like that.

Everything you said is true but they have to be careful to avoid jumping the shark.

I actually like that idea. Gotta get the other two cops involved somehow though. They are a big part of the series.

I finally caught up on all my tv. Saved this for last since I happen to inadvertently catch a spoiler thanks to google reader... :\\

I suppose it didn't disappoint. I feel like that was a wrap and I don't have to watch anymore. Castle got Beckett. Great, story over. Nice.

Very emotional end. I would of done it a bit different, but long overdue.
I would bet everything gets back to as was, other then the personel involvement.

All of my training/experience as an Internal Auditor came out when Castle got (and ignored) the phone call from Kate at the end. I told my wife, "She's calling from outside his door." And then, Ding, Dong...

Call me an old softie, but I loved the ending.

Well, they finally did it, they got together. I was actually worried for a while there, when Castle confessed his love to her and she got all mad and said he'd "betrayed" her and he left... I thought "Seriously? Are we going to drag this out another season now?"

I expected the phone call at the end, and yelled at him to answer it, as obviously he had no idea what she'd just been through. Then the knock on the door, and I thought "Ah yes, here it comes." And yeah, that was pretty hot. And remember guys, it wasn't a cleavage shot; they were just showing the scar to remind us. (Yeah, right.)

Still... I'm just tired of the whole deal with her mother's murder. I no longer care at all. This is episodic television and if there was no ongoing story spanning entire seasons then I would be fine with it. I was really hoping that they'd wrap that up, and I honestly didn't care if they caught him, or he was the one who ended up falling off the roof, or whatever. But it seems that we get another season of it.

Yes, Beckett's mother (Castle), Carrie Wells' sister (unforgettable) and Red John, who we know killed Patrick Jane's (The Mentalist) wife and daughter... time to solve these riddles and move on.

side note:

Just noticed that these last two Castle episodes were only 3.5GB in size. That's about the lowest I've ever seen for an hour-long "HD" program. Usually it's closer to 6GB for most hour-long HD programs.

Practically every ABC hour scripted show I can think of all run about 3.1 to 3.6GB in size, 1/2 hour sitcoms can run as low as 1.5-1.75GB. Some of the soap style shows like Private Practice and Grey's are even below 3GB.

The last episode for me was 6209871872 bytes of mpeg 2 goodness. Must be dependent of the local sub-channels in your area?
It was 4.45 GB for me here in Las Vegas and like djb61230 mentioned it does matter how many sub channels are used by the station.

It's been announced on the Castle Facebook page that they have officially been renewed for Season 5!

Where are you getting these size figures from?? Downloads where?
For mine, it's from using the free kmttg program for the transfer of Tivo-recorded programs to my computer. It lists the file sizes for each program. Plus, within the Tivo box itself, you can dig down into the (recorded) program description and find the file size there too, I think.

Interesting. Never noticed that before, probably because it only now dawns on me that Castle is the only ABC show I record. Oh, and Once Upon a Time. I'm not sure how many subchannels I have here. Two, I think but not certain.

That's what I'm using as well, kmttg.

I know that ABC and KNTV have both gone to MPEG4 for their network to station transmission, which might explain the smaller file size but for the fact that they're converted back to MPEG2 for local delivery. Here in the SF bay market our ABC station also sends out that utter waste of bandwidth called Live Well HD and another waste of a weather channel. ABC also averages the lowest bitrate among all the majors as well at around 7-8 mbps, the rest are all above 10 with the 1080i stations being the highest of course.

A screen shot of all the crap piled up on one of my TiVos.

Modern Family group expanded. The other ABC 1/2 hr sitcoms run the same sort of numbers.

Some of ABC's shows look dreadful. Desperate Housewives used to look very good but this season (and some of last season as well as I recall) the image, especially in indoor lighting has been utterly horrible. Murky would almost be a compliment.

Yes, on whole, they do look murky. I have seen some very good quality from ABC in the past, some of that can likely be attributed to the production choices made, they had sharpness and a very film-like look to them, but since they added that Live Well channel, and reduced the bitrate for the main channel, most everything looks extremely mediocre.

It would be interesting to see some outdoor scenes from "Lost" re-broadcast today and compared with the original recording, my guess is that the new airing would look terrible compared to the original.

I have to say, in our market, KNTV puts out the best combination of image and audio quality, ABC is the worst, followed by CBS(they really, REALLY, need to fix that compressed-to-hell audio they use) and then FOX. FOX I would definitely rate closer to NBC than with ABC/CBS. CBS(KPIX) has good PQ, but the awful audio(almost physically uncomfortable to listen to) more than offsets the good PQ.

DirecTV for me on channel 7 (ABC) is crystal clear & Sharp as a razor .For me Fox is the worst but not by much , but CBS,ABC,NBC all are Great PQ can't say anyone is any better than the others , I'm in Novato I can't get anything OTA as I'm up near the hills.

Well if we don't like the quality being broadcast we can always wait for the Blu-rays, oh crud.....

Stana looked good... she looks even better in "Feast of Love"

Wat a convoluted season opener. do the writers think we have photographic memories? I was sitting there trying to piece it all together. Lets hope next week we get back to what the show does best...
I didn't hae any trouble following it at all.

I suspect that there will be a little kink in the armor next week.
It seemed like they crammed way too much into one episode so they could get Beckett back on the force by the end. I think it would have been better to have stretched it over several episodes, primarily so we could have had a little more development of the Castle-Beckett relationship. I mean that's what I wanted to see and all we got was a little at the very beginning and a little at the very end. When they had their hands tied behind their backs, heard someone coming, and thought it was the end, why didn't they kiss?

Now that they revealed who killed Beckett's mom, is there any point to the show? I guess they could tell us who is Castle's dad. Is this the last season?
